Spring Prep – The Wardrobe

It’s that time of year again! It’s now officially spring in Australia, and it’s time to clean things out and get ready for the new season. I spent most of last night cleaning out my wardrobe, and digging through the items I had put away at the beginning of winter this year. Now for some reason, at the start of every new season I am always inspired by a minimalist wardrobe – I only want a certain number of items that I can mix and match to make a few different outfits. But somehow at the end of every season I end up with a wardrobe bulging with items that still have the tags on them, and that don’t really suit the feel of what I was wearing that season anyway! So once again I am inspired by minimalism, and I’m going to try and keep this post in mind when I shop for things for my wardrobe… I don’t want to end up at the end of summer with a whole bunch of clothing that I’m never going to wear!

So I’ve drawn up a list of pieces that I think I want to work with this season, I have about 50% of them already in my closet, and I’m now on the hunt for…

peep toe flats (suitable for both work/casual)
peep toe wedges (in a nude shade)
flat sandals (in a brown/tan shade)
2 x pencil skirts (in shades other than black)
5 x sheer blouses (in light shades)
3 x lightweight cardigans (again in light shades)
above the knee shorts (preferably black)
leather bag (in a shade other than black – preferably nude)

One other thing I’ll be keeping in mind is a quote that I read last night. “The most beautiful colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you” I have been favouring nude shades for this season, but it’s going to be important for me to find the RIGHT shades to suit my fair skin. It can either look lovely, or I could look like a walking corpse! So hopefully I pick the right ones…

Product Review – Trilogy Rosehip Oil

The lovely folk over at Adore Beauty were kind enough to send me out a sample of the Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil to review for their website.

TrilogyRosehipOil

What is great about this product…

The rosehip oil is Certified Organic, which means there are no added preservatives, colours or fragrances. It is also good for all skin types, which was surprising to me as I have oily skin and didn’t realise that oil could be good for the issue of excess oiliness! I have noticed a huge difference in the softness of my skin since starting to incorporate the product into my daily routine. I actually touched my face in the shower one morning and was shocked at how soft my cheek was! I have also noticed that my skintone in general has become more even, and the areas where I had some redness (sides of nose & chin) seemed to have calmed down a lot. I’m not sure if this is purely because of the rosehip oil, or because I’ve also been using the Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective gel. Another bonus is that you only need a couple of drops per application, and at $35 AUD per 45ml, it’s definitely value for money!

What’s not so great about this product…

The only real problem I had with the oil was the fact that it left my face incredibly shiny. Even when I used the smallest amount of product, and spent some time really massaging it into my skin, it left a lot of shine. So personally I would only use the oil at night, never in the mornings.

The Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is available for purchase from Adore Beauty. (and they ship internationally – bonus!)

Saturday Survey (September 5)

01 Mood: Rushed! I feel like I have at least 100 things to do today. Of course, I will get them all done with time to spare… Right??

02 Best thing about this weekend: It’s Father’s Day in Australia, so we’re spending tomorrow with the extended family. Hopefully the weather turns itself around so we can sit outside, have a lovely BBQ lunch and enjoy some time together!

03 Last movie I saw: The Young Victoria. I walked out of the cinema confused as to who I loved more – Emily Blunt, or Rupert Friend. The film itself was beautiful too… The costumes! So exquisite!

04 What I’m watching: Project Runway Australia. It’s the finale this week, and my money is on Lauren to win… (although I believe Anthony is the favourite)

05 Makeup lust: DuWop’s Private Red Lipstick… I cannot wait to try this. I know a lot of women spend too much time and money trying to find the “perfect” red lip… So the idea of a lipstick that changes to your personal chemistry to give you the ideal red lip is definitely intriguing!

06 Listening to:
Say by John Mayer. I was never a huge fan of John Mayer, but I am developing a new respect for his sound. His lyrics are always beautiful.

07 Favourite recent purchase: Asos Pink Silk Blazer. I have ordered this and can’t wait to receive it! Keeping my fingers crossed that it fits properly…

08 What I’m reading:
The Lost World, by Arthur Conan Doyle

09 I want: The house to miraculously clean itself.

10 Aim for this week: Attempt to cross everything off of my ‘to do list’….

Spring Wardrobe – Jewellery & GIVEAWAY

One of my favourite things to do at the start of a new season is to pick out a couple of unique pieces of jewellery that I think fit in well with what I’ll be wearing. This spring/summer I am going to be going for a lot of lighter nude shades (breaking away from black for the first time ever – terrifying!) and in the softest materials that I can find. I was scouring Accessories Online UK for appropriate pieces and these are my favourites so far…

Given that one of my nicknames is Bee, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate necklace for me to own! It really is too cute, and what says ‘spring’ more than a little bumblebee?

This is such an incredible piece that would stand out against any outfit. I think personally I would wear it with something simple to really let the necklace stand out on it’s own.

I absolutely adore turquoise. And this piece is such a vibrant colour, I think it would look amazing if worn with a little white sun dress. (if only I had the tan to go with it!)

And now for the giveaway! Accessories Online has generously offered for one lucky reader to win a Dogeared Make A Wish Wishbone Bracelet!

DogearedBracelet
Make a wish and put on your bracelet. When your bracelet wears off your wish should come true… Ask, believe, receive.

This competition is open to everyone, as international shipping is available. To be in the running to win, simply leave a comment to this blog entry & make sure to include your email details. If you are kind enough to spread the word about this giveaway, please leave me your blog link and I will give you an extra entry into the draw. The winner will be announced in 2 weeks time. (18th September ’09) Good luck!

Product Review: Organic Island Lipbalm

The lovely people at Organic Island Australia have sent me one of their beautiful & unique shell lip balms to review!

OrganicIslandLipbalm

My experience with the product so far

So far, I am really impressed. I have applied the balm at least 10 times since receiving it, not because I needed re-application, but because it’s such a gentle product and it’s making my lips feel so good! The balm itself is very light, non-greasy & has a very faint honey smell. (which I am guessing comes from the beeswax)

What is great about this product…

The balm is housed in a real shell. “Our shells are 100% REAL and not man-made. We source recycled shells and damaged shells which have been washed up and collected for re-use.” So not only are they gorgeous to look at, but they are eco-friendly. The shell compact also comes with a handy mirror inside – perfect for touch ups.

The balm itself is made from naturally derived ingredients such as coconut oil, rosehip oil, mango seed butter, beeswax, macadamia oil, jojoba oil and lanolin wax. Which means that it is a 100% natural product offering you the benefits of hydration, protection against UV rays, lightened pigmentation, and most importantly a natural lubrication for dry lips.

The brand is dedicated to carbon reducing & recycling. This is something that I am personally passionate about, so to find a brand that supports the same ideas as me is always exciting. To read more, click here.

What is not so great about this product…

To be honest, not much. The only problem I’ve had has been the fact that my daughter has become obsessed with the “pretty shell” and won’t give it back to me! Also, it could prove a problem if you happen to take it with you to the beach, and leave it behind on the sand… But that isn’t too likely to happen!

These gorgeous balms are available for purchase online (international shipping is available) from the Organic Island website.
