
I’ve come to the realisation that when it comes to exercise – I need discipline. I need boundaries and a schedule and something to get me off of my butt and into my workout gear. When I leave it up to my own motivation it always tends to fall by the wayside. And this is why the Couch To 5K programme is suiting me perfectly. I am only required to workout 3 times a week (perfect) and with the C25K iPhone application taking the thinking out of the actual workout – it’s all become so easy. All I really have to do is get my butt on the treadmill 3 times a week. And that is definitely possible. The Couch To 5K programme is basically a workout schedule that will have you running 5km’s (easily?) in 9 weeks. Week One is 3 x 30 minute workouts. A 5 minute warm up, 20 minutes of alternating 90 seconds of walking with 60 seconds running, and a 5 minute warm down. If you can remember this, and figure this out for yourself when working out – great! But if you’re like me and prefer to tune out and just let yourself run without thinking, check out the C25K iphone application. You can upload your own playlist so that you can listen to your own music, and there are audio alerts when you need to stop and start running, and when it’s time to warm down.
