10 Day Cycle

First of all I just want to thank everyone who took the time to comment, email me or write to me on Twitter regarding my current family situation. Unfortunately life has a habit of dropping the floor out from underneath you when you least expect it, and it’s not always easy to cope. But I really think that sometimes you need to encourage yourself to do the things you love and the things that make you happy in order to keep moving through life in the hope that you will be able to cope with whatever you’re going through. Blogging and the online community are things that I get a lot of pleasure out of. I’ve been so lucky to meet some absolutely amazing and inspiring people through this little world, and I am making an effort to stay connected where possible. So although I won’t be around as often as I used to be (at least not for a while), I will do my best to post when I get the time.

I have been inspired by Laura at Life, Beauty, Laughter and her recent discovery of the ’10 Day Cycle’. (please take the time to visit Laura’s blog – she is such a lovely person, and her blog really reflects her wonderful personality.) I have decided to embark on these cycles myself, to try and take my mind out of what feels like a ‘long term slump’, and to attempt to focus on the here and now. (in 10 day bursts)

Book to read…

I’ve not had much time to read over the past week or so, so I’m hoping to get stuck into this book on my train ride to and from work this week. I find that is the best time for me to really lose myself in a book. Though if it’s a good one, I’m always disappointed when I reach my destination!

Movies to watch…

I have been lusting after Joseph Gordon-Levitt after seeing him in Inception, and 500 Days of Summer was recommended to me as a good film, so of course I went out and bought the DVD as soon as possible. I’ve also been dying to see Julia & Julia and my grandmother let me borrow her DVD so I am planning on watching that too when I get the chance.

Hair & Makeup Inspiration

I love this look in Liv. I have never been confident to rock the middle part, as I have quite a round face (the complete opposite of Liv really) but I’m hoping the soft curls/waves might soften it a bit. I am also loving the low-key makeup and pink lip that she has going on. Definitely something I can recreate easily.

Things to do…

Spend less time online, and more time with my family.

Buy a cherry tomato plant.

Ask for a week off of work.

Take my grandmother to the movies.

Hopefully I can achieve all of these things in the 10 day cycle. I am really looking forward to this, and can’t wait to see how I go!

  1. That 10 Days Cycle idea is wonderfull. I used to have a “best of the week” list, but it took too much time. Maybe I should try this one : )

  2. I’m not a massive fan of 500 Days of Summer, but this sequence is on my ipod and I play it all the time when I just need something to make me smille and zing me up a bit. I often play it at work when I’m a bit over it, and then I’m singing and clicking my fingers and jigging my shoulders for the rest of the day!

  3. Oh, lovely! Enjoy (500) Days of Summmer… really great film unlike a lot of the crap coming out these days.

Julie & Julia is good, too – I enjoyed that more than I thought I would.

  4. I hope all is well with your family, it’s great to have you back!
500 Day Of Summer is an amaaazing movie (however I get a bit angry towards the end, even though the final scene is perfect)!
    Good luck with your cycle!

  5. I feel for you re: world falling from under your feet – I hope you’re feeling OK!

For your Nanna date, take her to the Cygnet theatre in Como. I take my Nan there constantly for our dates.

We then get Chicken Licken across the road, and I remind her that I’m her favourite grandchild.

    • Como is a bit far for us (we’re both quite north of the river) I’m thinking I might take her to gold class because she’s never been before! What is this chicken licken business? It sounds delicious! lol.

  6. Awesome post, I love this idea.
And haha I’ve seen both of those films recently, I 100% recommend them both (Joseph Gordon-Levitt is GORGEOUS in 500DOS as well)
    xx

  7. Mikhail Bugakov is a great writer in my opinion, haven’t read the exact book but i’m sure you’re in for a treat! Julie &Julia is such a tasty film… it’s comparable to Chocolat (minus Mr Depp), it’s a lovely film with loads of food porn to make you hungry.
The 10 Day Cycle sounds like a nice plan.

  8. Thank you so, so much for your lovely words Belle! I am so glad that to see that you’re doing okay.

You are in for a treat, 500 Days of Summer and Julie & Julia are two of my favourite movies!

    Love lots gorgeous xx

    • I watched Julie & Julia last night and really loved it except for the fact that they never went into detail about the fact that Julia said she found the blog disrespectful! That was quite an open end in the story, and would have liked it wrapped up a bit!

      • Oh but that is what happened in real life! They never met and that’s all Julia Child ever said about the blog. It’s sad, really! (I did a little research and I think that the issue was that Julia Child felt a little insulted that Julie found the recipes so hard when she had spent so long perfecting them so that they were easy to use. That’s why she said that Julie wasn’t “very serious”, lol. She didn’t think that Julie was in her league at all!)

      • Ohhh! That is interesting to know, I was thinking it might have been a lost in translation sort of thing because Julia was from a generation that wasn’t aware of the internet/blogging etc. But I like your perspective on it.

  9. I’m really intrigued by this ten day cycle, I might try and give it a go myself :)
