Books!

I know, I know, I know. I said that I was not going to be buying any more books for a while and yet, here we are. My justification is that in part of my new budget I have allowed myself book purchases at the start of every month. And what do you know, it’s the 1st of January! (happy new year, by the way) I am partaking in the 50 book challenge in 2011, so I will need plenty of new books to keep me going throughout the year. The 4 books I’ve ordered today all include some of my favourite themes – apocalypse, alien invasion and zombies. Awesome. Nothing too brain straining, but if I’m going to get through 50 books this year they can’t all be literary classics.

  1. I LOVE apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic books and movies, too. You will adore The Stand when you get around to reading it (saw it on your YouTube vid) – it’s probably my favourite book in that genre.

  2. I say the book buying is more than allowed so long as its in your budget.

I tried the 52 book’s in a year challange a couple years ago. While i may not have completed the project, i did read WAY more than i had before that. Good luck on reading that many books! (be smarter than me and do not pick books that are ridiculously long)

  3. Brilliant idea, I might join you on this 50 books challenge 😀

  4. 50 books. Wow. I might be in on that too. It’s good to see what other people read and recommend to take you out of your book comfort zone.

  5. The Handmaid’s Tale seemed to lead up to something but then just didn’t deliver. BUT The Day of the Triffids was awesome! and its a super quick read too! Have fun and enjoy!

    • That is a bit of a bummer about The Handmaid’s Tale, hopefully I still enjoy it. I can’t wait to read Triffids, the plot sounds like it’s right up my alley!

  6. I think The Handmaid’s Tale is a truly great book with a great ending. It is a good read but pretty intense … I would not call it an easy read. The text flows beautifully in true MA style but the themes and narrative are scary (to me anyway!)

  7. I think you’ll like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’! It’s a great book and I thought it was particularly haunting.
