Product Review: Napoleon Perdis Pore Minimizer and Mattifier

I think 2011 must be the year that I embrace primers, because for the second time this year I’ve found a priming product that I actually like. The first was the L’Oreal Smoothing Resurfacing Primer and the second is my new priming companion, the Napoleon Perdis Pore Minimizer and Mattifier. I don’t have the best history with Napoleon priming products, as their general Auto Pilot Primer did not agree with my skin at all and broke me out. The Pore Minimizer and Mattifier doesn’t seem to have any of the negative side effects of the Auto Pilot Primer though, and thankfully my skin hasn’t reacted badly to it at all. I have to admit, the first time I used the product I was a little taken aback at the colour/consistency of it…

I was a bit worried about how brown the primer looked at first, but thankfully the dark brown colour of the product blends out to be unnoticeable under foundation after application. Now, I’ll get real here for a minute because what I’ve learned over the years is that it’s basically impossible to completely hide my pores. It’s also practically impossible for me to “minimize” them in any way. But they can be slightly hidden. The Napoleon Perdis Pore Minimizer and Mattifier acts as a barrier between my skin and my foundation, and creates a lovely little protective layer that helps my pores from being too visible. The effect lasts for a few hours at a time, which makes it a great product to use at night if I’m heading out somewhere like dinner or the movies where I know I won’t need to check or reapply my makeup after a few hours. (Keep in mind that I have oily/combination skin, which would be an issue that contributes to the product’s lasting power.) Napoleon Perdis himself suggests using the product over makeup when needed. “Don’t tissue oils away. Just apply Pore Minimizer and Mattifier throughout the day.” The Napoleon Perdis Pore Minimizer and Mattifier retails for $65 and is available for purchase from Napoleon Concept Stores, David Jones and pharmacies and salons throughout Australia. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

6 Thoughts on “Product Review: Napoleon Perdis Pore Minimizer and Mattifier

  1. Ah, it’s so brown! I would’ve been nervous too 🙂

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a primer this colour! As long as it works, I guess it doesn’t matter though 🙂 Great review!

  3. I have been meaning to try this product so I am glad you did a review. Have you used Benefit POREfessional? I would love to know how Napoleon compares to it.

I was less than impressed with this product. My pores are very large, ice pick type. This product was not useful in filling in those pores.
