Oh look, another vent…

I’ll try not to make too much of a habit of posting my rants on this site, but as this rant was site-related I figured it wouldn’t be too out of place. Plagiarism is an issue I’ve not had to deal with in the past and it’s definitely not something I ever thought I would have to deal with, but here we are. Yesterday evening, a lovely reader left a comment on my post from back in March 2010 reviewing the Jurlique Rosewater Mist letting me know that a blatant rip off of my review had been posted over at 2Threads, under the name Gaia Gardiner. I was sure there must have been some mix up, so I headed over to 2Threads to check it out, and sure enough there are some obvious similiarities between the posts.

At first I wasn’t sure how to feel about this. Flattered? Annoyed? Upset? In the end I was just confused. Is it really that hard to whip up a simple beauty review? Did Gaia love my writing that much that she wanted to claim the review as her own? I sincerely doubt it. After all, it is just a beauty review and really nothing special at that. After thinking about it for a little while I emailed 2Threads and asked them to remove the review from their site. Then I waited. And waited. After hearing nothing all day and the review still sitting on the site (now with some commentary at the bottom – thanks guys), I emailed them again and explained that if the review was not removed I would contact their host server to remove the post. I’ve still not heard anything from any of the people at 2Threads and the review is still up on their site. I’ll wait a couple of days before contacting their site host, and hope for the best. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout today, in particular the dear SassiSam and Patty Huntington who both made their voices well and truly heard.

Note: 2Threads have sinced removed the review, and emailed me an explanation and apology.

  1. I know how frustrating that can be. I once had one of my art works ripped of by some guy who tried to pass it off as his own. I asked him to remove it from his site but he wouldn’t, he got all cocky saying I couldn’t prove it was mine. Thus I e-mailed the website admin the original sketches and so forth I’d done of the image and his account was removed.

I hope that it all works out for you, but it’s good that you’re letting people know that it’s your work. Protect what’s yours, some folks are too ready to rip others off.

  2. That is ridiculous! As you said, how hard is it to come up with a review of your own? :S There is too much plagiarism on the internet and it really has to stop.
    Good Luck, Jess! x

  3. I saw on Twitter that 2Threads removed the post, I’m glad you got a positive response from them πŸ™‚

That’s horrible! I hope they remove it and it’s settled. The positive side is you know there are people on the internet looking out for you.

    • Thanks Claire, I was quite amazed at how many people spoke up for me, though I think a lot of it had to do with 2Threads already having a pretty poor reputation.

  5. That is pretty annoying!

I guess they removed it, because I tried to follow the link and couldn’t πŸ™‚

  6. I was the commenter who let you know about that post- I actually found it when I was looking up the product and both your review and hers popped up, and I just noticed how strangely similar they were! I actually know the girl who wrote that review (not very well however), and I am shocked that someone trying to become a journalist would rip something off like that.
I’m glad it all got sorted out and you got an explanation πŸ™‚
