Product Review: New CID Cosmetics i-Gloss in Raspberry Kiss

Just in time for Valentine’s Day I’ve been lucky enough to discover a new fantastic lip gloss. New CID Cosmetics are a London based company that is relatively new to the Australian market, and if the standard of this gloss is anything to go by I am really eager to check out the rest of their product range. The first thing I noticed about the i-Gloss was the unique packaging. The side of the tube hosts a convenient mirror, and the lid of the tube twists open to reveal a built in light to help you with application. (I don’t know about you guys but I can definitely see this coming in handy during those times I find myself in a ladies bathroom at a bar trying to elbow my way through a sea of women to get some lighted mirror space…)

The rest of the packaging isn’t that appealing to me to be honest. I find the white cap and the font on the tube to be quite old fashioned. But the product inside definitely makes up for this. The gloss is a beautiful raspberry-apple shade that is on the more opaque side of how I like my lipgloss to be. (meaning just dark enough to give enough coverage without being too overwhelming) It also contains some tiny blue shimmer flecks to give the colour a bit of depth. It’s quite long lasting, and I’ve found that I can go from my 6am application through to my lunch break without needing to reapply. I’m not too keen on the smell of the gloss, it has a subtle banana scent that I’ve never really been partial to but if you like products that smell like bananas this might be a good thing for you. The New CID Cosmetics i-Gloss in Raspberry Kiss retails for $33 AUD, for stockist information call 1300 437 436. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review.)

Style Muse

Do you have a style muse? A celebrity (or perhaps someone outside of the fame cycle) who inspires you in the way that you look, and the way that you dress? I do, and I have for years. In fact I still remember the first time I saw a picture of her that inspired me in a style sense, and it was from that moment as a teenager I really started to pay attention to the way I presented myself. The muse in question is no other than the beautiful Liv Tyler.

Through her I learned to embrace my fair skin. I discovered the perfect go-to-outfit. I became obsessed with Lanvin ballet flats. I was exposed to Givenchy cosmetics. I started to appreciate the fact that less is often more when it comes to makeup, and that clear fresh skin looks better than a face full of foundation any day. Over the years I have of course developed my own sense of style and taste, but I often look back at pictures of Liv to recapture that feeling of inspiration that she never fails to provide me. Do you have a muse?

Product Review: Ragged Blossom Beauty Eyeshadow in Siren

If you’ve not heard of the brand before, Ragged Blossom Beauty is an all natural, handmade Australian cosmetics company. I was sent 3 of their mineral eye shadows to try out and review, and this is the first of three reviews that I will post on the blog. The company owner Lindy was kind enough to send me three of the more neutral shades from her range, and my favourite of the three is definitely “Siren”. The packaging is similar to a lot of loose dust/pigment eyeshadows I’ve used in the past, as you can see in the pictures below.

As you can see from the pictures, the shadow contains some tiny glitter particles. These look absolutely beautiful in real life, and aren’t completely captured in the still shot. The shadow has a similar consistency to a MAC Pigment, or one of the Napoleon Perdis Loose Eyeshadow Dusts (both of which I have personally used in the past). The shade “Siren” is quite sheer and doesn’t have a lot of colour payoff, so I find that it works best when layered over a neutral shaded eyeshadow. (note: the swatch above has 3 layers of the shadow built up to give that sort of colour.) The Ragged Blossom Beauty mineral eyeshadows are handmade, and free from parabens, talc, oil, fragrance, bismuth oxycholoride, boron nitride, synthetic dyes & animal products (and are vegan friendly). The single eyeshadow pot retails for $9 AUD and can be purchased online from Ragged Blossom Beauty. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review.)
