Books!

It’s the beginning of the month which means book buying time! As I worked book buying into my budget, I figured it would be a good idea to have a specific time to buy new books, and what better time than the start of the month to replenish my already overflowing ‘to read’ shelf. It’s a mixed bunch this month, with a good old post-apocalyptic classic (Z for Zachariah), the book that helped my friend convert to vegetarianism (Consider The Lobster and Other Essays), and two reader book suggestions (The Woman in Black & The City of Falling Angels). Thank you to those who have suggested books for me to read, keep them coming because they all go on my Book Depository wishlist to be purchased in the future.

Reader Discount: Echolife.com.au

If you’ve not heard of Echolife, head over and check out their online store. I hadn’t heard of them before today, but after perusing their site for a good half hour this morning I discovered that they stock some great Australian natural and organic brands. Just the thing for those like me who are leaning towards a more natural way of living as of late. As a little treat, Echolife have offered a $5 discount on all orders made my The Belle Lumiere readers for the entire year. All you have to do is enter the code the belle lumiere at checkout, and the $5 will be deducted from your total. Easy as pie! While you’re there, feel free to pick me up a tube of the Wotnot Baby Lotion, ta.

Oh look, another vent…

I’ll try not to make too much of a habit of posting my rants on this site, but as this rant was site-related I figured it wouldn’t be too out of place. Plagiarism is an issue I’ve not had to deal with in the past and it’s definitely not something I ever thought I would have to deal with, but here we are. Yesterday evening, a lovely reader left a comment on my post from back in March 2010 reviewing the Jurlique Rosewater Mist letting me know that a blatant rip off of my review had been posted over at 2Threads, under the name Gaia Gardiner. I was sure there must have been some mix up, so I headed over to 2Threads to check it out, and sure enough there are some obvious similiarities between the posts.

At first I wasn’t sure how to feel about this. Flattered? Annoyed? Upset? In the end I was just confused. Is it really that hard to whip up a simple beauty review? Did Gaia love my writing that much that she wanted to claim the review as her own? I sincerely doubt it. After all, it is just a beauty review and really nothing special at that. After thinking about it for a little while I emailed 2Threads and asked them to remove the review from their site. Then I waited. And waited. After hearing nothing all day and the review still sitting on the site (now with some commentary at the bottom – thanks guys), I emailed them again and explained that if the review was not removed I would contact their host server to remove the post. I’ve still not heard anything from any of the people at 2Threads and the review is still up on their site. I’ll wait a couple of days before contacting their site host, and hope for the best. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout today, in particular the dear SassiSam and Patty Huntington who both made their voices well and truly heard.

Note: 2Threads have sinced removed the review, and emailed me an explanation and apology.

Project 10 Pan Update / January Empties

Finished up in January:

01: Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Seasilk Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner (travel sized)
02: L’Oreal Preference High Shine Colour Conditioner
03: Lancome Hypnose Mascara
04: NARS Sheer Matte Foundation in Siberia / Givenchy Photo Perfexion Foundation in Perfect Ivory

I put the two foundations together and counted them as one product because neither of the bottles had a lot of product remaining in them, and I felt guilty counting them separately. I’ve not been 100% dedicated to the cause this month either, and I sneakily bought myself a bottle of Kosmea Rosehip Oil, Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Porcelain Pink from Jess’ Blog Sale. Now watch me justify… I had completely run out of the Kosmea Rosehip Oil, and as it is one of my HG products, I needed it back in my routine asap. The cleanser was purchased because I will run out of the current cleanser that I’m using in a week or so and don’t want to have to wait for my new cleanser to be shipped here – pre-emptive strike. And as for the MAC… Well no money was exchanged as Jess also wanted some things from my blog sale, so really it’s a swap and not a purchase and therefore doesn’t count! Hooray! Bring on February.
