Thoughts of the week…

01) I need some new running shoes because the pain in the soles of my feet seems to flare up when I wear my Nikes to run in on the treadmill. I’ve got my eye on a pair of the ASICS Gel Kayanos so I might have to start setting some pennies aside to purchase a pair.

02) Having said that, I’m officially on a no-buy for the rest of June and all of July. I need to get serious about putting money into savings before the house is built, and although I’m sitting on a decent nest egg – it could always be better.

03) The Sad Dog Diary

04) The third season of The Killing started up last week and I am SO excited to have Detective Holder back on my screen every Monday.

05) My skin has been really dry lately, which is weird for me because my skin is basically never dry. A testament to how cold and bitter this Winter has been so far I guess. I had to dig out my Lanolips Golden Ointment to help with my hands. This is an amazing product, and if you’re suffering with some dry spots I highly recommend picking this up.

06) GAME OF THRONES. RED WEDDING. HOLY HELL.

07) The National released their new album last month, and it’s wonderful (although it does have a very similar sound to their first album but hey I’m not complaining).

08) Speaking of new albums, The Civil Wars (aka my favourite band) are releasing theirs this month and I absolutely cannot wait. I’ll be breaking my no-buy for that.

09) I ordered a couple of things for the new house because MYER were having their stocktake sale last week, and I’ve had my eye on these beauties for a little while. I ordered the Delonghi Brilliante Kettle and Toaster (both in white).

10) I’ve been wearing Burt’s Bees Pink Blossom Tinted Lip Balm all week and I love it. It’s the perfect shade of soft pink and smells a little bit like redskins. Not that I can smell anything at the moment, as I seem to have contracted my first head cold for the season. Grand.

Product Review: Clarisonic Mia Skin Cleansing System

By now I’m sure we’ve all heard of the Clarisonic. It seems to be mentioned time and time again in interviews with models and celebrities talking about what skin care products they use. Yes, even Liv Tyler uses the Clarisonic. So what the hell does the Clarisonic brush do? “The Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System works by using their patented sonic frequency technology to gently massage pores and removing impurities—leaving your skin six times cleaner than if you had washed it by hand!” I don’t know about you guys, but to me that sounds pretty promising. Before I started using this I put the call out on twitter to ask my fellow beauty lovers (aka the girls I can trust for honest beauty advice) how they use their Clarisonic. The responses were varied and I realised that it would take a trial-and-error approach to see how I could make this little machine work best for me. The winning formula for the Clarisonic Mia + my skin = use once every 2-3 days, apply whichever cleansing product I am using directly to my face (rather than the brush head), cut out all other exfoliating products from my skin care routine. I found that when I started using the Clarisonic I was overdoing it, and although my skin didn’t go through a “purge” period, which I’ve heard can happen (though not from any of the girls I asked on twitter); it did seem to get hypersensitive when I was using the brush too often and in conjunction with my regular exfoliation products. Now that I’ve figured out how best to use it, my skin is LOVING it, and my face feels cleaner and smoother than ever. The Clarisonic Mia is waterproof (great if you’re lazy super busy like me and want to multi-task in the shower) and is rechargeable, so you don’t need to worry about having to replace the battery. You will however need to replace the brush head once every 3 months or so and there is a type for every skin condition (I use the sensitive option) which makes this product suitable for all skin types. The Clarisonic Mia Skin Care System is available for purchase for $139 AUD from Ry.com.au and comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty (note: this product was sent for consideration for review).
