Current Skin Care Routine

I remember asking my mum a little while ago what her skin care routine entailed. When she told me that it was basically NOTHING, I was shocked because I couldn’t imagine doing so little to help my skin. But HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT. My new skin care routine is so low key that it’s practically nothing. And my skin is loving it. Is this terrible? Probably. But hey, if my skin isn’t complaining, I’m not going to stop what I’m doing. Not a lot has changed since my last skin care routine post, I’m still really liking the Paula’s Choice product range, and I recently switched back to an old (non Paula’s) product to try and finish it up and it was a horrible experience. It really helped me realise how much I love Paula’s range and how gentle all of her products feel on my skin.

My current regime includes the following products:

Clarisonic Face Brush (w/ sensitive brush head) – It took me a while to figure out the best way to make the Clarisonic work for my skin. I now use it twice a week with the Paula’s Choice Hydralight Cleanser. If I use it any more than twice a week my skin tends to flare up a little bit. You can read my full review of this product here.

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil – I received this deluxe sample as a gift with purchase from Sephora, and have been using it as a neck treatment a few nights a week. It feels really nice on my skin and is scent-free (which I prefer when it comes to skin care), so I’m really enjoying using it at the moment.

Origins GinZing Eye Cream – I normally grow tired of eye creams after using them for a couple of weeks, but I’m still really liking this one from Origins. I use this morning and night as an under-eye treatment. You can read my full review of this product here.

Nivea Fragrance Free Face Wipes – I use these every night after I hop out of the shower, to remove any remaining traces of makeup and to cleanse my skin. These particular wipes have a drier formula than most, which I really like because I feel like they work better on my skin than the ones that leave some residue after use. You can read my full review of this product here.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight One-Step Cleanser – I use this cleanser every morning while I’m in the shower, and it’s so lovely and gentle on my skin. I love the way that my face feels after using this, it’s one of those great products that cleans the skin well but doesn’t leave it feeling stripped or irritated in any way. This is my new holy grail face cleanser.

Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner – Well, I think it’s safe to say my ol’ crater pores are not going anywhere any time soon, but a girl can dream. I started using this toner every day once my Hydralight bottle had run out, and I l-o-v-e it. It’s fragrance-free, and feels very gentle on my skin. Perfecto.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel & 2% BHA Liquid – Alright, I gotta get real for a second. I have very little idea as to what AHAs & BHAs do for my skin. Regardless, I forge ahead and use both of these products occasionally on my face because I just love dabbling with putting various acids on my face. I alternate between these two products, depending on what I feel like my skin needs at the time.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion – Moving past the death-smell of this moisturiser, it’s one of the best I’ve ever used. It’s a lightweight lotion but feels very moisturising on my skin, and it provides just enough hydration to keep my oily-prone skin fresh without overloading it. This is my second tube of the lotion so far, and I can definitely see myself buying more in the future.

Thoughts of the week…

01) The Breaking Bad series finale was all I could have ever hoped for and more. Perfect ending to a perfect show. I’m sad to see it go, but happy to see that it ended on a high.

02) It was announced this week that John Mayer will be coming to the West Coast Blues & Roots festival in Perth next year. I’m dying to see him, plus two of my favourite artists (Boy & Bear and Matt Corby) are also performing. Now I just need to convince someone to come with me.

03) I’ve embarked on the 30 day Ab & Squat Challenge. Feel free to join me! Also, don’t forget to sign up for Social Workout if you haven’t already.

04) Oh look, I bought the best Christmas t-shirt of all time.

05) One of my best friends got married last weekend and it was such a lovely day. Forget saving for a house, kids. It’s time to start saving for the wedding season that occurs every year after you hit the ripe old age of 25.

06) I’ve been listening to the xx on repeat for a couple of days. Their album ‘coexist’ is the perfect soundtrack/remedy for days where I’m stuck in the office working. I’ve also had Kings of Leon’s new album Mechanical Bull on heavy rotation. ‘Family Tree’ is my favourite song on the album at the moment.

07) I’m in LOVE with my Frida necklace from Stella & Dot. I really want to buy more of their jewelery, but I just can’t justify it at the moment. As a side note, I’d say the quality of their range is pretty much on par with Jeweliq, so if you want to get something beautiful for a cheaper price point, definitely check them out.

08) Liv Tyler is releasing a modern day etiquette book with her grandmother Dorothea Johnson. I pre-ordered a copy today.

09) I really want to see Gravity. I’ve heard RAVE reviews from every single person that I know that’s seen it already, so I have high hopes.

10) THE WALKING DEAD STARTS ON MONDAY. I’m so excited to have Daryl Dixon steaming up my screen again. Another of my favourites, American Horror Story, started up this week and I’m hooked already. Seeing Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange work together is going to be very exciting.

Product Review: Clinique Chubby Stick in Mighty Mimosa

I love a good chubby stick. In fact, I can confidently say that Clinique’s Chubby Sticks have been my favourite lip product lately and this shade in particular is my go-to lip colour at the moment. To be honest with you guys, every time I pick it up I think…

If that isn’t enough to entice you to purchase this little beauty, read on. Clinique Chubby Sticks offer everything I could possibly want from a lip product: they give just the right amount of coverage, feel moisturizing on the lips, and they give me the ability to apply lip colour with what appears to be a giant crayon. These kinds of products are more popular now, but when they first came out on the market I had a lot of people questioning what the heck I was doing. Mighty Mimosa is my latest chubby purchase and I really love this shade. I wanted something quite neutral and slightly peachy, and this is pretty much perfect. The Clinique Chubby Stick in Mighty Mimosa retails for $35 AUD and is available for purchase from Clinique online.

Sephora Haul

Can someone send me frequent reminders that the ‘treat yo-self’ concept should really be limited to a once-a-year event? Or maybe just cut up my credit cards. THANKS. Anyway, I placed a spur of the moment order with Sephora last month because I developed an obsession with the Makeup Forever HD Blush in the shade Nip Slip. I mean, the name alone. I decided to stock up on a few essentials (and non-essentials) while I was placing my order, just to make the shipping cost worthwhile (ha). I bought: Givenchy Photo Perfexion Foundation in Perfect Ivory, Clarisonic Sensitive Brush Head, Beauty Blender Duo Pack, Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess, Illamasqua Gleam Highlighter in Aurora, Clinique Chubby Stick in Mimosa, Lancome Hypnose Mascara, and the Makeup Forever HD Blush in Nip Slip. I BOUGHT A BRONZER, GUYS.
