Current Skin Care Routine

I remember asking my mum a little while ago what her skin care routine entailed. When she told me that it was basically NOTHING, I was shocked because I couldn’t imagine doing so little to help my skin. But HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT. My new skin care routine is so low key that it’s practically nothing. And my skin is loving it. Is this terrible? Probably. But hey, if my skin isn’t complaining, I’m not going to stop what I’m doing. Not a lot has changed since my last skin care routine post, I’m still really liking the Paula’s Choice product range, and I recently switched back to an old (non Paula’s) product to try and finish it up and it was a horrible experience. It really helped me realise how much I love Paula’s range and how gentle all of her products feel on my skin.

My current regime includes the following products:

Clarisonic Face Brush (w/ sensitive brush head) – It took me a while to figure out the best way to make the Clarisonic work for my skin. I now use it twice a week with the Paula’s Choice Hydralight Cleanser. If I use it any more than twice a week my skin tends to flare up a little bit. Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil – I received this deluxe sample as a gift with purchase from Sephora, and have been using it as a neck treatment a few nights a week. It feels really nice on my skin and is scent-free (which I prefer when it comes to skin care), so I’m really enjoying using it at the moment.

Origins GinZing Eye Cream – I normally grow tired of eye creams after using them for a couple of weeks, but I’m still really liking this one from Origins. I use this morning and night as an under-eye treatment. You can read my full review of this product here.

Nivea Fragrance Free Face Wipes – I use these every night after I hop out of the shower, to remove any remaining traces of makeup and to cleanse my skin. These particular wipes have a drier formula than most, which I really like because I feel like they work better on my skin than the ones that leave some residue after use. Paula’s Choice Hydralight One-Step Cleanser – I use this cleanser every morning while I’m in the shower, and it’s so lovely and gentle on my skin. I love the way that my face feels after using this, it’s one of those great products that cleans the skin well but doesn’t leave it feeling stripped or irritated in any way. This is my new holy grail face cleanser.

Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner – Well, I think it’s safe to say my ol’ crater pores are not going anywhere any time soon, but a girl can dream. I started using this toner every day once my Hydralight bottle had run out, and I l-o-v-e it. It’s fragrance-free, and feels very gentle on my skin. Perfecto.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel & 2% BHA Liquid – Alright, I gotta get real for a second. I have very little idea as to what AHAs & BHAs do for my skin. Regardless, I forge ahead and use both of these products occasionally on my face because I just love dabbling with putting various acids on my face. I alternate between these two products, depending on what I feel like my skin needs at the time.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion – Moving past the death-smell of this moisturiser, it’s one of the best I’ve ever used. It’s a lightweight lotion but feels very moisturising on my skin, and it provides just enough hydration to keep my oily-prone skin fresh without overloading it. This is my second tube of the lotion so far, and I can definitely see myself buying more in the future.

11 Thoughts on “Current Skin Care Routine

  1. I love Paula’s Choice – her 2% BHA liquid is a big reason why my adult acne is under control! I know what you mean about the death smell of Hydralight too – I tell myself that’s what all skincare smells like under all the fragrance!

  2. I’m still trying to optimise my skincare routine – my skin is relatively good but I always feel like it could be better… (and I guess I like dabbling with new products every so often).

I haven’t heard of Paula’s Choice before. What’s your go to supplier for the range? Also, curious about your skin type – it sounds like combination/oily from the post?

  3. A brand loyalist!

For me it’s ASAP and Alpha H because I prefer to use Australian brands, but other than that my bathroom cabinet and shower also resemble a brand advertisement. I alternate between an acid-based cleanse/scrub or treatment each night and a clay-based mask twice a week because my pores get clogged so easily and the results of using acids are awesome. It could be very easy to go overboard…

What masks and sunscreen have you got in the mix at them moment if you don’t mind me asking?

    • I haven’t been using any sunscreen other than what is in my makeup (terrible, I know), but I plan on buying one of the Paula’s Choice ones very soon! Mask wise, I’m often too lazy to use them, but the last one I used was an Essenzza sheet mask, and it was lovely!

  4. Never head of Paula’s Choice either. Sounds pretty amazing, I’ll look into the line, Thanks for the nice write up.

  5. I WISH I could get past that damn death smell of the moisturiser! I seriously struggled with it though, so had to give that one a miss. I did find the Hydralight cleanser lovely too – and once I get through a few of my stash, might purchase that one full sized. My skin has been a bit whack of late, so I’m trying to sort through that at the moment. I also share your love of dousing my face in acids – god damn I love that smooth, soft feeling they leave!
