Thoughts of the week…

01) This “phodographer” is amazing. I’d love to attach a camera to Ben and see what he captures. I’d say 99% of the photographs would be of food, to be honest.

02) I put the call out on twitter for tips to deal with tension and stress, and Kieran recommended the Relaxia app – which I am now obsessed with. If you’re looking for a useful tool to help you manage stress, definitely check this out.

03)I dressed like Kim Kardashian for a week“.

04) Ben says hello!

05) We’re going to see San Andreas this weekend, and I am SO EXCITED GUYS. I can’t wait.

06) This Into The Gloss feature on Kate Bosworth has me craving a good lip stain. Any and all recommendations are welcome.

07) Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak are writing a book together. This is wonderful news.

08) We went and saw Mad Max this week… I wish I hadn’t had a bad headache (thanks to viral sinusitis, as I found out the next day), because I feel like I would have enjoyed it even more than I did. What a ride!

09) There was a happy ending to the dancing man saga from earlier in the year.

10) The evolution of Mom Dancing (part 2).

5 Things To Buy From Sephora

It can be tricky business buying things from Sephora from here in Australia, but if you work out a way to do it it’s pretty wonderful (and can end up cheaper in the long run). I purchase items from Sephora myself, have them shipped to my Hop Shop Go address, and then forwarded on to me. This works about 75% of the time, and to be honest the times that it doesn’t work I really couldn’t tell you why. If you’re willing to take the gamble and place an order, I recommend picking up the following 5 products.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy – This is the current frontrunner for the title of my favourite blush of all time. It’s an extremely flattering peachy-pink shade that never fails to lift my complexion and brighten my face. The lasting power of these Tarte blushes is second to none, and even though I know this I’m always pleasantly surprised to see that I still have a face full of blush when I get home from work at the end of the day.

Beauty Blender – Once you go Beauty Blender you never go back. At least, I haven’t (and won’t). Nothing has ever managed to give me the same level of flawless liquid foundation application that the Beauty Blender does. Somehow this little miracle of a sponge just manages to work everything into the skin and leaves it looking perfect. Buy two.

Fresh Tinted Lip Conditioners – These are my favourite lip products, and I own them in nearly every shade currently available. I’d say out of all of the shades I’ve tried, “Rose” is my favourite, so if you’re planning on picking one up maybe try starting with that one. It’s probably the easiest one to wear, as it’s one of the more sheerer shades from the range.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder – To be honest with you, I could never really tell if my loose powder was actually doing anything until I ran out of this one and had to use something else in it’s place. Somehow this powder is the only one I’ve found that keeps my face matte for the majority of the day. If you’re prone to a bit of oiliness, check this out because it works really well for me.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner – I have shaky hands, poor eyesight, and hooded eyelids. To put it bluntly, if I can manage a decent looking winged liner using this, anyone can.

NOTD – Essie ‘Angora Cardi’

I’m actually really surprised that I’ve never done a nail of the day post on this polish, as it’s one of my all time favourites. I was getting a bit bored of wearing Max Factor’s Burgundy Crush every day, so I mixed it up with this Autumn-friendly shade. This is an absolutely beautiful colour, and the polish wears really well. I went a whole week without having to cover any chips of flakes. If you’re looking for a beautiful nail polish to wear throughout Autumn and Winter, definitely pick this little beauty up.

Thoughts of the week…

01) So….. I didn’t love the Bad Blood video, and I don’t think it was worth the hype. Just sayin’.

02) Speaking of Taylor Swift, I guess those Calvin Harris rumours can be laid to rest?

03) Joy Williams released another song from her upcoming album, and it’s a beauty. This is apparently about the breakup of The Civil Wars, so as someone who came to know Joy through their music this one is pretty interesting for me.

04) We started watching Mad Men last week (about a hundred years behind everyone else, I know), and we’re both obsessed. We managed to power through season one over the course of a few days (it helped that Sebastian couldn’t move from the couch post-op – TV marathon time!), and will be starting season three very soon.

05) Chris Pratt dancing on the set of Jurassic Park.

06) Wheel of musical impressions with Jamie Foxx.

07) Stephanie sent me the link to this blog during the week. Amazing.

08) Listening to Mumford & Son’s new album on Spotify may not have been enough to convince me to fork out the cash for it, but it worked for Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint. I purchased it, and I’ve been listening to it non stop all week.

09) Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande covered one of my favourite Crowded House songs, and it’s a beautiful rendition of a perfect song.

10) I really enjoyed the first Maze Runner film, so I was excited to see the preview for the second film. It looks good, and I know less about this book/film than the first one, so I’ll be going into it blind.

May Wellness Chat

Last month I brought up the fact that I talk about a lot off different kinds of goals in life, but rarely about mental wellness and the sort of things I want to achieve to help me with that balance. I set some wellness goals for the month, so lets see how I did:

– Buy an adult colouring book (and nice pencils)
– Go screen-free after 9:30PM on week days
– Read a little bit of my book every night before bed on week days
– Make an effort to keep up contact with friends
– Spend more time “with nature” and in the garden

My obsession with colouring is going strong, as evidenced by the image that the top of this post. I struggled with going screen free after 9:30pm, I might need to push that back to 10pm moving forward. I feel like I lose track of time in the evenings, and although we go to bed relatively early, I’ll often look at my phone and it will be well after 9:30pm. Oops. I’ve fallen off the wagon with my reading, and I really need to get back on track. I need to make more of an effort to read and unwind before falling asleep, but I find as soon as I crawl into bed during the week all I want to do is sleep! Keeping in contact with friends has been much easier since my girlfriends and I started a group WhatsApp group chat. We now converse daily (in some way), which is wonderful. I haven’t spent much time outside lately, mostly due to time restrictions. Soon! Here are my goals for the upcoming month:

– Spend time on Tuesday and Thursday evenings doing things for me
– Meditate once a week
– Spend some time on Sunday evenings in ‘wind down’ mode
– Practice daily affirmations
– Work on a vision board

What are your wellness goals for the month?
