Top 4 Paula’s Choice Products

I am a self-confessed Paula’s Choice fangirl, and I’m not afraid to admit it. I noticed that they’re having a 25% off sale (use code SPOOKYSCARYAU), so what better time to share with you some of my favourite products? Be sure to let me know if you pick any of these up, I’d love to know what you think of them if you do.

Hydralight Shine Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 15 – This is officially the best facial sunscreen I’ve ever used, and it has firmly cemented it’s place in my daily skincare routine. One of my favourite things about this sunscreen is that it doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. A huge win for a facial sunscreen. I wrote a full review of this product a little while ago, which you can read here.

Resist Ultra Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum – I’ve always been a bit wary of using serums during the day, mostly because I feel like they would enhance the natural shine factor of my skin. I decided to try this out a few weeks ago, and I have not looked back. My skin drinks this in, and if I leave it on my skin for a couple of minutes before applying my daily moisturiser, there are no shine issues. This has worked some kind of magic on my skin, which looks a lot clearer than it did before I started using this daily. I love it, and I’m going to continue to use it every single day.

Hydralight One Step Cleanser – My holy grail skin cleanser. This is such a gentle product, and I feel like it would work well on anyone’s skin. My face goes through phases (oily/dry/breakout-prone), and this has faithfully seen me through it all.

Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant – This is one of those magical products that you can actually see results from the next day. None of this ‘it won’t happen overnight’ business. It will happen overnight. This leaves my skin glowing, and somehow manages to diminish my crater sized pores, even just a little bit. Liquid gold.

50 Book Challenge (part 6)

It’s amazing how a good book can really motivate you to read, and to keep picking up more books after you’ve finished that one. God bless these books for kick-starting my love of reading. I’m down to 12 books behind, which means I’m one book ahead of where I was at the last time I posted a 50 Book Challenge wrap up. We can do this!

Pleasure Island by Anna-Lou Weatherley 6/10 – This was my first ever NetGalley book, and I was excited to see what it was like. I like that it was the kind of book that I’d never have picked up if I hadn’t seen it listed on NetGalley. I really enjoyed this book, it was a bit of an adventure and a lot of fun. I think it’d make for a good beach read, so if you’re after something a bit sexy and fun this is one to pop in your beach bag this summer.

The Rest Of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness 6/10 – This book was gifted to me by the lovely Tonile from My Cup and Chaucer (thanks again Tonile!), and it was a really fun YA paranormal with a twist. I’ve often wondered about all of the normal people who live in book-based paranormal worlds – don’t they wonder what the hell is going on with all of the vampires and werewolves running around? This story deals with people inside a world like that, but separated from the main “action”. A fun read, and worth picking up if you like YA books that sit just outside the norm.

A Time To Run by J.M. Peace 7/10 – I didn’t realise this book was set in Australia until I picked it up, which was a pleasant surprise for me. This book was all too real and extremely creepy. I love a good police procedural, and what I liked about this was the healthy balance between the parallel stories as they played out. I also love a book with strong female characters, and this did not disappoint. I powered through this book pretty quickly, it was definitely thrilling and even brought a tear to my eye a few times.

A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams 8/10 – I put this book on my to-read list after seeing a booktuber mention it as a book she re-reads every summer. I love books like that (for me it’s a children’s book – All In The Blue Unclouded Weather by Robin Klein – don’t judge), ones you can read over and over again and they never lose their magic. I didn’t really know what to expect when I picked this book up, but obviously I liked what I saw because I read this book in one day. The whole book. And it’s 357 pages long. I adored the setting of this book, Rhode Island in the 1930s. I especially loved the character development, and the believable romance. There are a few twists and turns along the way that aren’t too surprising, but still interesting enough to watch play out. Would I read this again next summer? Without a doubt.

The Bedtime Tag

Tine posted a fun tag a little while ago, and I thought I would “single white female” her and do the same! If you follow suit, please let me know in the comments below so I can head over to your blog and read your answers.

1. What are you favourite pajamas?: I’ve always been a big fan of the PJs at Sussan, everything in their range is extremely comfortable and cute. I also wear a lot of stuff from the GAP pure body range (in particular the modal pants), because everything is so soft and perfect for sleeping in.

2. Current bedtime reading?: At the moment I’m reading You by Caroline Kepnes. Which is a pretty strange read so far, to say the least.

3. What is on your bedside table?: I have a hand-painted watercolour portrait of Ben, that I’m yet to find a frame for. I also have a handful of crystals that I’ve picked up over the years, a hand cream from Scottish Fine Soaps, a Tanda candle (in lychee & black tea), a lamp (IKEA of course), and the book I’m currently reading.

4. Favourite sleepy scent?: I don’t really wear or associate any sort of scent with sleep. Although I do like having a gently scented candle next to the bed to keep the room smelling nice and fresh. Nothing too overpowering though.

5. What is your usual bedtime & wakeup time?: When I’m working I usually go to bed at around 10pm and wake up at 5am, now that I’m on holidays my bedtime ranges but is never later than 11:15ish. I’ve been letting myself wake up naturally, which is usually at around 6-6:30am (or 4am if I’ve had a lot of water the night before).

6. Top 3 bedtime products?: Some sort of hand cream, for sure. Although it has to be something I apply to my skin and let it soak in for a reasonable amount of time before going to bed. I hate going to bed feeling like I’m all lathered up in products. I also apply some sort of lip balm before I turn the lights off, and my favourite is the Fresh Sugar Advanced Lip Therapy. A treat for my skin before bed is definitely a nice slathering of Kosmea’s organic rosehip oil. Even though it smells terrible, I don’t care.

7. Your most common sleeping position?: We’re currently living with the world’s most uncomfortable mattress, so whatever position I can twist myself into and feel relatively comfortable I guess. I have to battle with a cat who likes to sleep at my feet, and manages to sneak up there when I’m asleep, so I can’t stop it from happening. In general I’m a side/stomach sleeper.

8. Any strange bed time routines?: Sometimes when Sebastian is away for work, I want Pepsi to come and sleep in the bedroom with me. I just like the company. She’s pretty stubborn, so to get her to walk all the way up the passage to the bedroom I use an app that plays a cat meowing – that sucks her in every time.

9. Are you big spoon or little spoon?: Little spoon 99% of the time.

My Birthday/Christmas Wishlist

Guess what guys? My birthday is in a few weeks. To be honest, I’m not excited about either my birthday OR Christmas this year. I know, I don’t even know who I am anymore. Use It Or Lose It Project 2015-2016

Back in September I posted about a little project I’d set for myself, to either use up products or get rid of them. My main goal is to reduce my beauty stash down to a select collection of ‘holy grail’ or staple items. Isn’t that the dream? My first post was regarding haircare, and this time around I’m going to share with you my list of makeup to be used up or chucked out/given away. I did a big cull before writing up this post, so what’s left is stuff I’m pretty sure I’ll get a bit of use out of.
