Sweet Valley University #15 Behind Closed Doors“Jessica Wakefield has sworn off love forever. Tired of heartbreak, she’s throwing all of her passion into her classes. And no one’s more surprised than Jessica when Louis Miles, her gorgeous professor, asks her to stay after class… for private lessons. Elizabeth Wakefield has promised to help Todd Wilkins regain his starting position on the SVU basketball team. Elizabeth is willing to take on the corrupt athletics department, but when the whole administration turns against her, will she be able to stand her ground? Winston Egbert has been so absorbed in his relationship with Denise Waters that he hasn’t opened a book for weeks. Now he’s willing to do anything to pass his physics exam. Is Winston about to make the biggest mistake of his life?”

Sweet Valley High #17 Love Letters“Caroline Pearce has always been one of the least popular girls at Sweet Valley High. But when she invents a new out-of-town boyfriend, people finally start to pay attention to her. Brown-eyed, six foot Adam and his romantic love letters are the talk of the school. Caroline has everyone fooled even clever Jessica Wakefield. But what begins as a bid for love and attention quickly becomes the worst jam of Caroline’s life, when her friends insist on meeting the boyfriend she’s been bragging about. Can Caroline keep the truth a secret, or will her lies be her downfall?”

Heaven by V.C Andrews“Of all the folks in the mountain shacks, the Casteels were the lowest — the scum of the hills. Heaven Leigh Casteel was the prettiest, smartest girl in the backwoods, despite her ragged clothes and dirty face… despite a father meaner than ten vipers… despite her weary stepmother, who worked her like a mule. For her brother Tom and the little ones, Heaven clung to her pride and her hopes. Someday they’d get away and show the world that they were decent, fine and talented — worthy of love and respect. Then Heaven’s stepmother ran off, and her wicked, greedy father had a scheme — a vicious scheme that threatened to destroy the precious dream of Heaven and the children forever!”

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne“Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman sit across from each other every day… and they hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. HATE. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight approach to his job and refusal to smile. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and desire to be liked. Now they’re up for the same promotion and Lucy, usually a determined people-pleaser, has had enough: it’s time to take him down. But as the tension between Lucy and Joshua reaches its boiling point, it’s clear that the real battle has only just begun…”

Behind Closed Doors by B. A. Paris“Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’d like to get to know Grace better. But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows. Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.”

July Empties

LUSH Sea Salted Caramel Soap – I picked this soap up recently, when my best friend visited Adelaide and we had a big day out shopping together. I know Sebastian loves anything salted caramel, and I figured he would enjoy this. Turns out he LOVES it, it’s his new favourite product to use in the shower, and we have already finished up a second bar.

Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 Dry Scalp Care – This is Sebastian’s shampoo of choice and although I wouldn’t personally purchase a 2-in-1 product, he seems happy enough with it and I will continue to purchase it.

Maybelline One By One Volume Express Mascara – I have a few old (unopened) mascaras kicking around in my beauty cupboard and I’m trying to use them all up. I’m so faithful to my holy grail Lancome mascara that buying anything else feels like too much of a risk or experiment to purchase, so once I’ve finished up these old ones I doubt I will repurchase any of them. Unless of course there are some superstar stand-outs. This was nothing special and didn’t really do much to lengthen or thicken my lashes so I’m not going to be repurchasing it in the future.

Lancome Hypnose Mascara – As mentioned above, this is my holy grail mascara and something I repurchase time and time again. This is the best mascara that I’ve come across for lengthening and thickening lashes without any dropout or smudging by the end of the day. I often receive compliments on my lashes and I put it all down to this incredible product.

Dove Go Fresh Deodorant in Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena – This is the only deodorant I use, and that is mostly because it smells really good. I have loved all of the deodorants in the Dove range, but this has been the stand out for me so far. I’ll continue to purchase this until I get sick of the scent.

Paula’s Choice Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum – This is one of my favourite Paula’s Choice products, and I’ve finished a fair few of these tubes over the years. This is one of those rare skin care products where you can see results almost immediately. My skin drinks this up and always seems to look healthier when I use this as part of my daily routine.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – Another repeat offender in my empties posts, this is a product we are never without in our shower. This is really gentle and is great to use on sensitive skin, so we both use it as a body cleanser. I have repurchased another tub of this, and I spotted some mega tubs at Costco that I’ll be picking up next time we shop there.

Darphin Beauty Revealing Cream – I feel like this product was a gift from the universe right when my skin needed it most. This was one of the most hydrating moisturisers I have ever used and my skin loved it, but only for a period of time. After a little while it got to be a little bit too heavy and I switched to using it as a neck cream instead. This is a heavily fragranced product, so if that is something that puts you off when it comes to skin care you might want to keep that in mind.

[sample] Mecca Maxima Bring On Bright Primer – I liked this primer so much that I went out and bought a full sized version of it as soon as this little tube had run out. I also convinced my best friend to buy it, and she said it has “revolutionized her face”. This is a really wonderful illuminating primer, so if you’re looking for something to brighten up your face, I’d recommend checking this out.

#ReadYourFaceOff TBR – August

The general goal for a #ReadYourFaceOff readathon is to get through as much reading as you can in a 24-hour window of time. It’s a fun (and short) readathon that was created by Riley from RMFickFack. This round will run from 9am on Saturday 18th August to 9am on Sunday 19th August in your time zone. I am quite far behind with my reading of A Clash Of Kings, so most of my focus will be on catching up on that. If I get time I’ll try and fit some shorter reads in as well. Good luck to everyone who is participating in this round!

The Seven Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton“`Somebody’s going to be murdered at the ball tonight. It won’t appear to be a murder and so the murderer won’t be caught. Rectify that injustice and I’ll show you the way out.’ It is meant to be a celebration but it ends in tragedy. As fireworks explode overhead, Evelyn Hardcastle, the young and beautiful daughter of the house, is killed. But Evelyn will not die just once. Until Aiden – one of the guests summoned to Blackheath for the party – can solve her murder, the day will repeat itself, over and over again. Every time ending with the fateful pistol shot. The only way to break this cycle is to identify the killer. But each time the day begins again, Aiden wakes in the body of a different guest. And someone is determined to prevent him ever escaping Blackheath…”
