I bought this shower oil by mistake a little while ago (I thought it was apple scented, I have no idea why) but I’m glad that I did because I’ve grown to love it. At first it took me a little while to adjust to the consistency of the product as I was used to using shower gels and lotions and this is a shower ‘oil’, which I had never used before. Despite being an oil it does still foam up slightly on use, but nowhere near as much as a shower gel usually does. After rinsing my skin feels soft and moisturised, and the almond scent of the oil lingers on my skin for a little while after showering. The fragrance itself is hard to define, it does in a way smell like almonds but it’s more of a fresh and tangy scent than anything too sweet. It took a while for me to get used to the fragrance (perhaps because I was so disappointed that it didn’t smell like apples?) but now I really like it. The L’Occitane Almond Shower Gel retails for $34.95 AUD and can be purchased from
L’Occitane online.

Recently one of the Australian sale websites (either OzSale or BrandsExclusive, I can’t quite remember) had a sale on OPI nail polishes and my co-worker and I decided to shop up a storm. They had an amazing selection of colours available and I went a little bit silly. After flipping out and adding pretty much every colour to my shopping cart I ended up culling down my list to the following shades: Koala Bear-y, Bubble Bath, I’m Not Really A Waitress, Big Apple Red, Russian Navy and Lucerne-tainly Look Marvellous. And now I think I’m pretty much set for nail polishes for the rest of the year. (Until Summer comes around and I decide that I want some fluro nails, of course.)

I can definitely see this product becoming a firm favourite in the body product stakes this coming summer… The
Botanics of Australia Smoothing Body Scrub with Desert Lime and Wattle Seed is one of the more gentle body scrubs that I’ve come across and I’ve found it really great to use on my sensitive skin. Normally when I use a body scrub my skin becomes red and inflamed (so attractive) and really rather cross but with the BOA scrub this doesn’t seem to happen at all. The grain in this scrub is quite fine, so it may not be ideal for people looking for quite a harsh and hardworking body scrub, but those of you who prefer a gentler scrub would probably like this. The scrub contains “
Vitamin C to promote youthful looking skin and encourage skin cell renewal. Helps revitalise skin tissue and improve circulation, resulting in healthy, glowing skin. The Wattle seed cleanses the pores and clarifies the complexion.” The smell is quite a strong, sweet lime fragrance that reminds me of lime cordial. I like it, but it’s definitely more of a spring/summer sort of scent for me. The Botanics of Australia Smoothing Body Scrub in Desert Lime and Wattle Seed retails for $12.95 AUD but can be purchased for $7.95 from
Fashion Addict online. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Ahh, coconut. I love coconut. The scent, the juice, the oil… Everything. One time I even drank out of an actual raw coconut in Singapore. Good times. When it comes to coconut scents, in my opinion it can go either way. You can either end up with a product that has a lovely delicious natural coconut scent, or it can be an kind of synthetic faux-coconut scent. Unfortunately for The Body Shop Coconut Shower Cream, I think in this case it leans towards the more chemical of fragrances. Having said that, as a shower gel it does the job. It contains community trade organic, pure cold-pressed virgin coconut oil, lathers well and leaves my skin feeling moisturised after use. If you’re not too fussy about your coconut scents and you’re in the market for a relatively cheap but good quality shower cream this could be the one for you. The Body Shop Coconut Shower Cream retails for $12.95 and can be purchased from
The Body Shop online store.

My polish preferences for the cold winter months tend to lean towards nice dark plum tones, deep burgundys, a simple soft pink or the occasional rock star black (in which case I am mocked at work for being a goth… “don’t talk to Jess, she’s a goth!”). In particular, these five shades are on high rotation on my nails this season – Mecca Cosmetica Audrey, Mecca Cosmetica Rosaline, OPI for Sephora Meet For Drinks, OPI for Sephora Brunette On The Internet & Face Of Australia Iron Ore.

Many, many moons ago I
posted about a haul that I’d acquired from the Flourish Bath & Beauty Etsy store. There were a couple of stand out items within this order, and one of them was the Almond Milk Body Lotion. This is probably one of my favourite scents of all time (ALL TIME). I also have the perfume oil, and I’ve been wearing it practically every day (paired with the moisturiser) since the beginning of Winter. If you’re a sweet-scent favouring gal, this is for you. I think
Dee (at least I believe it was Dee?) summed it up perfectly when she said it smells like a baby’s head. The product itself is nice and thick (not quite body butter thick, but quite rich all the same) and feels very moisturising. The gorgeous scent lingers for most of the day, but usually fades by the afternoon which is a little bit disappointing, because it smells so good. I also really like the packaging, and was pleasantly surprised by all of the Flourish products that I ordered. I find sometimes home-made products don’t have the nicest packaging, but this range is just gorgeous. The Flourish Almond Milk Body Lotion retails for $8 USD and can be purchased from the
Flourish Bath & Body store.

Those of you who often shop at Big W will know about their sneaky little mini product section near the checkouts. I often impulse buy random products from this section purely because they’re miniature (aka travel sized), and cheap. Also, it’s something to do while I wait in line. (Don’t think I don’t see what you did there Big W…) The best thing that has come out of these mini-product splurge episodes for me is the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Body Oil. My skin has been absolutely drinking this stuff in now that it’s really getting cold here in Australia. I find it’s usually best to apply body oil to damp(ish) skin, and this one is no different so I tend to use this oil straight after hopping out of the shower. One thing I will note is that the smell is
very strong. In fact the super strong, sickly-sweet fragrance of the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter range normally puts me off of their products but this is somehow bearable. If you want to smell like chocolate, this product is for you. You can purchase the
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Body Oil 250ml online from E Pharmacy for $9.39 AUD.
