Product Review: Urban Rituelle Turkish Rose & Vanilla Shower Gel

Well ladies, if you’ve ever wanted to smell like a delicious slab of Turkish delight; THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. This shower gel ranks way up there on my imaginary list of all-time best smelling beauty products. I have a couple of other products from this range that I am dying to try and I’ll be getting onto them very soon, but for now I’m working my way through this and I am loving it. This shower gel has a very light formula, it’s a thinner consistency than what I’m used to, but I like it. It bubbles up easily (soft little luxurious turkish delight bubbles) and leaves my skin feeling soft and nicely moisturised. The scent of the gel lingers on the skin for a little while, which means I get to curl up in bed following a hot shower after a long day and dream of eating Turkish Delight all night long. Which, frankly, is all I’ve ever wanted from a shower gel. The Urban Rituelle Turkish Rose & Vanilla Shower Gel retails for $27.95 AUD and is available for purchase online (please note: this product was sent to me for consideration for review).

Product Review: Mountain Ocean Skin Trip Coconut Moisturiser

I first became aware of this lotion after seeing it show up on various lists of ‘celebrity beauty favourites’ floating around the internet. It must have popped up on the list of a celebrity I stalk obsessively like, because my interest was piqued enough for me to purchase it. Guess what guys, I LOVE IT. I tend to favour lightly scented body lotions for the daytime (I’ve been trying to use up my more heavily scented lotions in the evenings after my shower) and this little beauty is one of the nicest smelling lotions I’ve come across. I also really really really love the packaging. I mean, really. The lotion itself has a very lightweight formula and it doesn’t feel that moisturising, but it’s enough for my normal skin. It sinks in straight away and leaves a very light coconut scent on the skin throughout the day. If you’re in the market for a nice, lightweight, summery body lotion, check this baby out. The Mountain Ocean Skin Trip Coconut Moisturiser retails for $9.53 AUD and is available for purchase from iHerb. Did I forget to mention how CHEAP THIS IS?

Product Review: Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille Perfume

I’m not really sure why it’s taken me so long to write a review of this perfume because, just so we’re clear, this is the most amazing perfume in the world. This is my signature scent, my holy grail, my soulmate in fragrance form and I’m not even being deliberately dramatic here. This perfume is simply amazing. If you’re not a fan of sweet or vanilla based fragrances this won’t be for you. But if you are, this is a niche vanilla scent that is an absolute delight to wear. The lasting power on this bad boy is second to none, and the smell. MY GOD THE SMELL. The Mecca Cosmetica website describes the fragrance better than I can, so here you go: “This sumptuous, all embracing parfum is composed with Mexican black vanilla absolute, Sandalwood, Black Liquorice and Coconut milk. This mysterious fragrance will have you feeling vibrant and luminous immediately.” Mmm, sumptuous. I tend to wear this perfume more during the cooler months of the year and occasionally at night during the warmer months, due to it being quite a heavy fragrance. The fancy ass notes feature sandalwood, black licorice, coconut milk, bitter almond, musk, vanilla, benzoin, guaiac wood, and tonka bean. Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille retails for $148 AUD and is available for purchase from Mecca Cosmetica (currently out of stock online).

Product Review: Bath & Body Works Twisted Peppermint Body Lotion

This is my Christmas body lotion. I use this and the shower gel from this scent range throughout the month of December every year and the smell reminds me of Christmas and yes, it is magical (insert daily reminder about how much I love Christmas). I was looking through my cupboard for a body lotion to use this month and I felt like this old favourite needed to be dusted off and given a new life for what I decided would be my very own ‘Christmas in July’. I don’t like thick body lotions, so I really like these lightweight Bath & Body Works lotions and the formula seems to work well on my skin. What I mostly love about this is the smell. THE SMELL. The smell of this lotion is like heaven in a bottle. I’m pretty sure that it would be too sickly sweet for a lot of people, but for me it’s like delicious pepperminty crack. I can’t get enough, and the scent of the lotion lingers on the skin long after application which is great until I realise that I’ve been subconsciously sniffing my own arm for unknown lengths of time in a public place. Bath & Body Works Twisted Peppermint Body Lotion retails for $11 USD and is available seasonally from Bath & Body Works. Please note that I use the parcel forwarding service Hop Shop Go to buy things from Bath & Body Works, but this particular lotion was gifted to me by my family from the States.

Product Review: YSL Cinema

This perfume sat unloved on my dresser for a long time. For a couple of reasons. Firstly, it is a strong fragrance. Overwhelmingly strong. Secondly, I bought it right before stumbling across my holy grail perfume (Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille) after which everything else sort of fell by the wayside. As I’ve been making more of an effort to use ALL of the products I own, I thought June felt like a great month to see if I could make YSL’s Cinema work for me. This took a bit of effort. This is a heavy scent, and before this month I wore it exclusively at night. Before figuring out how to wear this without ending up with a headache by 9am, I was that person on the train who seems to bathe in perfume before leaving the house in the morning (usually these people are exclusive fans of Stella McCartney or Red Door – I was the exception). I can only wear this if I spray it once on one of my wrists and pat them together gently (probably CRUSHING the delicate aspects of the fragrance with my mighty wrists but I don’t have time to care about this). That’s it. If I wear it on my neck, I literally suffocate to death feel overwhelmed by the smell. If I spray it on both wrists, it’s still too strong. This perfume could be used as a weapon of mass destruction, but when worn subtly it’s beautiful. I’m terrible at describing scents so I’ll let Fragrantia do the leg work: “The top note is delicate and softly fresh (clementine, almond blossom and cyclamen). The heart reveals jasmine, peony and amaryllis. The drydown is warm, opulent, and balsamic with amber, musk and sweet powdery vanilla.” If I were to describe it I would say it smells like what a rich woman would wear to dinner on a private yacht before getting caught up in a tangle web of lies and intrigue and there is lots of champagne and oysters and also Daniel Craig is there. YSL’s Cinema can be purchased for $72.50 AUD from Strawberrynet.
