I love to burn candles all year round, and although it may seem strange to burn a candle during an Australian summer it’s usually pretty cold in our house because Sebastian is a huge fan of the ol’ air conditioner. I wanted to share some of my favourite seasonal candles with you, as these little beauties have been staples in my house for quite a few years.
Glasshouse Montego Bay (coconut lime) – This is probably my longest running favourite fragrances, and one that I continue to love years after discovering it. I actually think I started out wearing this as a body moisturiser, but then switched to burning the candles when I knew they were available. Coconut and lime is the quintessential summer fragrance for me, so this is perfect. An OG candle for me.
Glasshouse Kyoto (camellia & lotus) – This is Sebastian’s favourite scent, and he always has one of these candles on his desk in our study, and the throw on this candle even when it’s not burning is strong enough to make the room smell amazing. At first the fragrance of this was a little bit too floral for me, but it’s grown on me and now I really like it.
Glasshouse Galapagos (kaffir lime & cocoa butter) – I asked for this candle for Christmas a couple of years ago, because I smelled it once and instantly fell in love with the fragrance. This is more of a fruity scent so if that’s more your cup of tea than a floral or gourmand, this is worth picking up.
Glasshouse Coney Island (burnt sugar & fig) – If you ever used the Firebird/Flourish perfume oil in Sugar you will love this, because the scent is almost spot on. I want to bathe in the melted wax of this candle, it smells that good. More of a gourmand-y type scent, but still ‘fresh’ enough to be something I burn in the warmer months.
Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo – I have the kind of hair that needs to be washed every day or it ends up looking like utter shit by the afternoon (I know this is not ideal, but it’s what I’m living with for now). I try to give my hair a break on the weekends and don’t wash it on most Sundays, unless I’m going somewhere I kind of need to look presentable for. This has been my go-to dry shampoo for a little while now, and it’s firmly cemented itself into my weekly routine.
Dermalogica Active Moist – A little while ago I got the urge to start working some Dermalogica skin care products back into my daily routine. Before I discovered Paula’s Choice I was an avid Dermalogica fan, and I still really love a lot of the products from their range. One of the things I decided to start using again was my favourite moisturiser, Active Moist. My skin has been loving this, and I’m so happy that I’ve worked it back into my daily regime.
Essie Nail Polish in Raspberry – I’m going to start saying farewell to my summer nail polish shades soon, but a standout for the season was definitely Essie’s Raspberry. It applies opaque after one coat, is a beautiful BRIGHT pink, and has great lasting power.
The Balm Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette – To be honest, I had completely forgotten that I owned this up until a couple of months ago. I’ve been rotating two of the eyeshadow shades from this palette (Adagio & Third Eye Blinded) for about a month or so now, and I am in love with them both. I’m excited to start trying out a few of the other shades too, as they all look really beautiful.
It takes a lot for me to favourite a youtube video. I like a lot of the videos that I watch (and give them a thumbs up), but for me to favourite something means I’m definitely going to go back and re-watch it again at another time. I thought it might be fun to share some of the videos that I’ve favourited over the years. Some of them are quite bizarre, to be honest.
This one is fairly straighforward. Laura Marling is one of my favourite artists, and this medley of songs is absolutely beautiful. Laura’s voice is absolutely incredible live (I was lucky enough to see her perform a couple of years back, and it was life-changing), and this video is something I love to listen to over and over again.
I absolutely love the style that Sam created in this video, and it’s such an easy up-do to recreate. A couple of years ago I was interstate for a friend’s wedding and one of my girlfriends was struggling to do her hair, so I pulled this style out of the bag and did it for her. She loved it! I’m glad I went back and re-watched this video, because I’m going to try it out on my hair again soon.
Does this really need an explanation
This is one of my favourite ‘outfit of the day’ videos, and it’s from Michele1218 (one of my favourite YouTubers). I re-watch this when I’m in a bit of an outfit funk. I love Michele’s entire ensemble in this video.
I watch this whenever I need a bit of a kick in the workout motivation department. It’s good to have something that inspires you to get off of your butt and MOVE, and this works for me most of the time.
This is another workout based motivational video. I used to watch this whenever I felt like I couldn’t be bothered going to my weekly dance class. I love the choreography of this dance. And if Beyonce’s body doesn’t motivate you to workout, I don’t know what will.
I love Anna, and her ‘get ready with me’ (or ‘unready’) videos are always favourites of mine. This was a recent video that she posted, but it’s already made its way onto my favourites playlist.
If you’re ever feeling a bit lost when it comes to makeup application, this video from Bobbi Brown is sure to help. I go back and re-watch it for a bit of inspiration from time to time.
This woman’s organizational skills are a dream. I like this video in particular because the pantry area is a space I really struggle to keep organized. It doesn’t help that I have a small space to begin with, but oh well. This video is very, very inspiring.
Another of my favourite musical artists – The Civil Wars. Unfortunately they’re no longer together, but this is one of my favourite songs and the performance is incredible.
This video has embedding restrictions, but I thought I’d share it with you all anyway. It’s my favourite SNL skit, and now I’ll have the song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Awesome. I’d love to know what your all-time favourite YouTube video is? Share it with me in the comments below!
Terax Crema Conditioner – This is an old favourite of mine, and when I say old, I mean I’ve been using this on and off for around 10 years. So yes, I really like it. They’ve changed the packaging, the formula (slightly), and the smell (thank God – this used to smell like poison) over the years, but I’ve stayed true to this little beauty. I dug this out of my hair care stash a little while ago and have been using it once or twice a week to give my hair a little bit of a treat.
Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream – When I was discussing a possible giveaway opportunity with a Jergens PR representative (which did eventuate – be sure to pop over here if you’d like to enter), she offered to send me something new from the brand to try out. I’d read Natalie’s review of the BB Cream and was dying to try it for myself, so I jumped at the opportunity to give it a go. I love this lotion, but I know it won’t be for everyone. This makes my skin look great and smells amazing but it’s not as hydrating as other lotions from the range, so if you’re someone who needs a LOT of hydration, you’d probably have to layer this over the top of something else.
Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelee in Pink Escape – I spent a little bit of my birthday money at Mecca Maxima last month, and this was one of the goodies I picked up. I wore this on my cheeks a lot during December. It’s dewy pink flush is perfect for a summertime makeup look. So lovely and fresh and light.
Paula’s Choice Resist Youth-Extending Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 15 – After finishing up my last tube of the Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisturiser I decided that it was time to try something new. I was recently sent some products from the ‘Resist’ range by Paula’s Choice, and I decided to try give this a go. I’m really liking this, and the additional benefit of it being SPF 15 is definitely not lost on me. I haven’t noticed that it’s particularly mattifying, but it is the middle of summer here so I feel like making my skin matte right now is a battle that no product could possibly win.
It’s favourites time! I feel like I’m forever using the same products over and over again, and yet I always manage to find something new to mention as a favourite when the time to write up this post rolls around. I guess I have more beauty products than I thought? No surprise there I guess. I’ve rediscovered some old favourites in this month’s stash. Here we go…
Chloe EDP – This is one of my favourite summertime scents. For some reason it reminds me of bubble bath, I do not know why. In any case, it’s fresh and ‘clean’ smelling, which is exactly what I tend to reach for when the weather is HOT and I feel disgusting. Although this is a long-lasting scent (on my skin anyway), having the rollerball of this is so handy because I can chuck it into my handbag for days where I know I’ll need to touch up.
Kerastase Bain Crystal Shampoo – I’d say Kerastase is my #1 haircare brand, so when I discovered this in my stash (after having completely forgotten that I’d bought it), I was most pleased. This is a really wonderful shampoo, and I’d highly recommend it to any of long-haired girls out there.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose – This has been floating around in my handbag all month, which means I’ve gotten more use out of it than any other lip product in my stash. That isn’t the only reason I’m mentioning it in my favourites though, this is one of my absolute favourites – an easy go-to lip that I can wear every day. Love it.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – I haven’t used Dermalogica products on my skin in quite a while, but I had the sudden urge to buy this before I embarked on my Project 50 Pan. Do I regret that decision? Obviously not. I’ve really missed this product, as it turns out, and I still love it just as much as I did a few years ago when I used it religiously on my face. Happy to have you back, Microfoliant.
