Product Review: Flourish Bath & Body Perfume Oil in Sugar

I didn’t think anything could top the Almond Milk perfume oil as my favourite product from the Flourish Bath + Body range, but then there was Sugar. This perfume is the single most complimented fragrance that I have ever worn. From people literally stopping me on the street to co-workers standing near my desk saying “something smells like cake” – people just seem to love it. I love it too, and as I am admittedly crap at describing scents, I’ll borrow the description from Flourish’s Etsy store – “Ethereal, delicate sweetness- a stray tendril of spun sugar wafting on a cool breeze. Sweet, of course- but not at all cloying or sticky. Rather, it’s watery, light, crisp. Orange blossom, vanilla, berries, a hint of anise – but “Sugar” really describes it best.” It is a sweet scent, and the name sugar really seems to suit it perfectly. I find the perfume oils last well on me throughout the day, but one of my best girlfriends has one and it doesn’t seem to last as long on her. Having said that I do tend to reapply during the day because the little roller ball packaging is so easy to take with me in my purse to work. The Flourish Bath + Body Perfume Oils retail for $9 USD and are available for purchase from the Etsy Store.

Product Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sin

The Urban Decay Naked Palette is a thing of myth and legend. It is a much marvelled thing of beauty that every girl and her sister were chomping at the bit to get earlier this year. I managed to snag one for myself via Sephora online (who now seem to have them constantly in stock, if you’re interested) and I’ve been using it off and on since it’s triumphant arrival at my door. The colour I’ve been using most within the palette would definitely have to be ‘Sin’.

Sin is a gorgeous, satin champagne coloured shadow that I like to wear as an all-over-lid shade. I think it’s probably the most wearable shade in the entire palette alongside Virgin. Urban Decay eyeshadows are mostly creamy and silky to apply, and Sin is one of the silkier shades in the Naked palette. The wear of this shadow is amazing, and layered over the Urban Decay Primer Potion it manages to last on my lids throughout the entire work day with no fading or creasing to be seen. You can buy the Urban Decay Sin Eyeshadow singularly for $17 USD from Sephora, or the Naked Palette for $48 USD. (note: Sephora do not ship directly to Australia so a parcel forwarding service is required)

Product Review: Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment

I try to make a habit of deep conditioning my hair at least once a week (“After all, your hair is your head suit” – Jack Donaghy), and I’ve been using this Wella Professionals moisturizing treatment as part of my routine since receiving it for review a few months ago. My hair is naturally fine, but I have a lot of it and it is prone to frizziness so my deep conditioning treatments need to be able to tame the frizz without weighing down my hair too much. The Wella conditioner pays off in that respect and although it’s quite a thick and heavy conditioner out of the tub, it washes out easily and leaves my hair feeling light but well moisturised. The smell is fresh and fruity without being too overpowering but it doesn’t linger for too long after rinsing the hair. My only issue with this product is the packaging. I have never been a fan of products that are designed for in-shower use that come in tubs. It creates a lot of mess and when you’re as clumsy as I am slippery hands & twisting caps on and off of tubs does not end well. The Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment retails for $24 AUD and is available for purchase from Wella Professional salons. To find your nearest salon, please visit Wella Professionals online. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Product Review: Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in RSVP

The Benefit Creasless Cream Shadow/Liner in the shade RSVP has been one of my most reached for products lately. I fell in love with the idea of a simple wash of champagne colour over the lid as part of a basic summer makeup look, and this does just the trick. The Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liners can be work as either an eyeshadow or a liner (as the name would suggest), but I tend to only wear them as all over lid colours. RSVP is a really gorgeous champagne gold shade, and exactly what I’ve been looking for in an eyeshadow.

The wear of these shadow/liners is pretty good considering I have oily eyelids, but of course it helps to wear them over a primer (I use Urban Decay Primer Potion). I apply it to my lids with my fingertips and then blend it out with an eyeshadow blending brush (Tip: If you are going to buy one of these babies, be sure to store them upside down to help retain their shelf life) The Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner retails for $34 AUD and is available for purchase online from Adore Beauty.

Product Review: Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze

I am one of those people who has never been confident wearing bronzer. There is something about the harsh contrast of ghost white skin and a brown toned bronzer that can just look… well, revolting. Short of bronzing my whole face (and then my white neck looks a little bit strange), it seems to be impossible to properly blend the brown shades into my skintone and keep things looking natural. In short, I have never been able to make the bronzer work for me. And then the Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze rolled into town.

I am yet to attempt to wear this in the day time, but at night time it works a treat. (Please note that I did apply this to my face with a very light hand – anything too heavy would have looked far too obvious on my skin. Also note that I have the pale grey pallor of a 3 day old corpse, so no doubt it would look different on those with a healthier skin tone than I.) The Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze contains light shimmer that looks wonderful under lights and makes adding extra highlight to the cheeks unnecessary. The Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze retails for $11.95 AUD and is available for purchase from these stockists. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Product Review: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren

The more I think about orange lipstick the more horrible of an idea it seems, but lets just imagine for a moment that wearing orange lipstick is totally rad and roll with it for the entirety of this post. I first saw the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren gracing the gorgeous face of Jen at My Funny Valentine and as I’d mentioned in a previous post, I decided that the colour might not be the best for me. It would appear that I’ve since changed my mind because I purchased this lipstick during a Target shopping spree during a recent lunch break. So apparently orange lips will now be a go-to-look for me this summer. Okay.

The colour is surprisingly wearable and makes for a fun alternative to a red lip for night time. I have already posted a review of the Super Lustrous Lipstick in the shade Coral Berry – and the formulation of this shade is the same, and just as good. The wear isn’t too bad, but it doesn’t last more than a few hours at a time so re-application will be required throughout the day or night depending on when you’re wearing it. The Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren retails for $21.95 AUD and can be purchased from pharmacies and department stores Australia wide.

Product Review: Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh Lotion

Summer is coming, which means it’s time to start baring the flesh you’ve been keeping hidden for the world for a few months (Unless of course you’re one of those people who parade around in tiny little dresses in the freezing cold without tights or a jacket on – and if you are, my apologies as I’ve probably laughed at you at some stage). I have been using the Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh Daily Light Lotion as part of my routine for summer preparation, and am loving it. The lotion is lightweight, absorbs quickly into skin and feels lovely and moisturising. The aloe smell is light and super refreshing, and one of my friends even complimented me on my perfume when all I was wearing is this lotion. Nice! It also contains SPF 15, which will help to block 93% of the suns nasty rays. If you’re in the market for a hard working lightweight body moisturiser this season, this could be just the product for you. The Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh Daily Light Lotion retails for $7.68 AUD and is available for purchase from supermarkets and pharmacies throughout Australia. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)
