Oh look, another vent…

I’ll try not to make too much of a habit of posting my rants on this site, but as this rant was site-related I figured it wouldn’t be too out of place. Plagiarism is an issue I’ve not had to deal with in the past and it’s definitely not something I ever thought I would have to deal with, but here we are. Yesterday evening, a lovely reader left a comment on my post from back in March 2010 reviewing the Jurlique Rosewater Mist letting me know that a blatant rip off of my review had been posted over at 2Threads, under the name Gaia Gardiner. I was sure there must have been some mix up, so I headed over to 2Threads to check it out, and sure enough there are some obvious similiarities between the posts.

At first I wasn’t sure how to feel about this. Flattered? Annoyed? Upset? In the end I was just confused. Is it really that hard to whip up a simple beauty review? Did Gaia love my writing that much that she wanted to claim the review as her own? I sincerely doubt it. After all, it is just a beauty review and really nothing special at that. After thinking about it for a little while I emailed 2Threads and asked them to remove the review from their site. Then I waited. And waited. After hearing nothing all day and the review still sitting on the site (now with some commentary at the bottom – thanks guys), I emailed them again and explained that if the review was not removed I would contact their host server to remove the post. I’ve still not heard anything from any of the people at 2Threads and the review is still up on their site. I’ll wait a couple of days before contacting their site host, and hope for the best. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout today, in particular the dear SassiSam and Patty Huntington who both made their voices well and truly heard.

Note: 2Threads have sinced removed the review, and emailed me an explanation and apology.

Australia Day

Photography by Dave Catley

I live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The beach pictured above is 15 minutes away from my house. I often stop and think about how beautiful this country is, and how lucky I am. I hope I never take it for granted. As with a lot of places, Australia has darkness in it’s history, but that discussion is for another time and another place. Today I am reflecting on the strength and beauty of my country and the people who reside here. We are celebrating the multiculturalism of our society with a street party BBQ this afternoon, where everyone is bringing a dish to represent their culture and heritage. Happy Australia Day to my fellow Aussies – we truly are the lucky ones.

A small rant…

I was debating with myself whether or not to post this on here, and as I realised that I personally would appreciate it if another beauty blogger had posted it for me to read, I decided to post it. Tonight I discovered that a lot of products I have been using were made by companies that either test on animals, or are owned by a parent company that partakes in animal testing on their products. As an animal lover I felt sick to realise this, and also stupid for not bothering to do my research earlier. There are many arguments that could be made against me being upset about animal testing on my beauty products. Yes I eat meat, but I am doing everything I can to convert to a pescetarian diet. No, I am not a vegan and I am ashamed to admit that do not see myself ever having the strength of character to become one. So do I have a right to be upset about this? I don’t really know. What I do know is that I do believe in making changes where you can for the better of yourself and the better of your environment and I do not believe that in this day and age animal testing is necessary within the beauty industry. If you see any reviews posted on this site of products made by any of the brands listed here – please know that they were items that I had either already purchased, or were sent to me for review before I discovered that they were on the list. I hope that you understand that I am not trying to force my beliefs on my readers: no judgement, no right or wrong as to what other people choose for themselves, I just wanted to put this out there for those who were interested in reading that list and making an informed decision as to what products they were using/buying.

Spare a thought…

I had a different post prepared for tonight, but I can’t get the Queensland floods off of my mind and it didn’t seem right posting a frivolous little review of a beauty product when my country is experiencing a large scale natural disaster. Within Queensland, an area the size of France & Germany combined has flooded. Today the banks of the Brisbane river broke and the CBD flooded. Lives have been lost, mostly children. At the last count that I heard 72 people were still missing. The situation does not appear to be getting any better, and even once the waters recede the clean up will take a long time. Donations are needed so if you have the funds and the inclination, please donate to either the QLD flood relief appeal or the RSPCA QLD to assist with animal rescue & shelter. If donating money is not an option, please spare a thought for my fellow Aussies who are struggling in Queensland tonight.
