Top 10 Favourite Movies

In Stef’s latest ‘Tidbit Tuesday‘, blog post she put the question out to readers – what are your top 5 favourite movies? As I could not cut off my list at 5, I decided to make this post my top 10 favourite movies of all time. Without further ado and in no particular order, here they are:

01: The Blues Brothers – definitely one of my long standing favourite films. I love Jake & Elwood Blues, and Dan Ackroyd’s dancing in every single musical scene throughout the film never fails to make me laugh. So many quoteable lines too. 02: The Dreamers – If you don’t already love Eva Green, you will after watching this film. It’s beautiful, and the imagery is still fresh for me even after years of re-watching.

03: Atonement – Watching this film will result in a full scale crush on James McAvoy, be warned. This is one of the rare circumstances (at least for me personally) where the film supersedes the book. 04: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – I doubt I have to explain why this movie is so amazing. If you’ve not seen it, you’ve obviously not lived through the 80’s.

05: Constantine – I’m not really sure why I like this movie so much, but it’s one of the few I can re-watch a countless number of times without getting sick of it. Tilda Swinton as Gabriel is simply genius. 06: Romeo & Juliet – When this film first came out, I went and saw it at the cinema around 4 times. I became obsessed with it, and the story of Romeo & Juliet. It also sparked my unhealthy teenage obsession with Leonardo DiCaprio, but we won’t go into that now…

07: Alien Vs Predator – Guilty pleasure film, don’t ask. 08: Star Wars Trilogy – I call this a trilogy because the recent films 1-3 are dead to me. Nothing beats the original. I still have memories of being a child and doing everything I could to stay away to watch the entire films when they were shown on TV, but I remember always falling asleep when Luke gets attacked by the Sand People. Gosh I’m cool.

09: Indiana Jones Trilogy – If I have to explain to you why Indiana Jones is amazing, well then we can’t be friends I’m sorry. The original trilogy is still my favourite, but the 4th film wasn’t too bad. Shia LaBouf’s smart mouth usually makes a film pretty bearable for me. 10: The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy – Now my inner geek is really showing. I love these films, and can still get a lot of enjoyment out of them after countless re-screenings. You know you’ve matured when you no longer find Orlando Bloom as Legolas attractive, but think Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn is the cat’s pyjamas.

So now I pose the question to you – what are your top 5 or 10 favourite movies of all time?

Oh look, another vent…

I’ll try not to make too much of a habit of posting my rants on this site, but as this rant was site-related I figured it wouldn’t be too out of place. Plagiarism is an issue I’ve not had to deal with in the past and it’s definitely not something I ever thought I would have to deal with, but here we are. Yesterday evening, a lovely reader left a comment on my post from back in March 2010 reviewing the Jurlique Rosewater Mist letting me know that a blatant rip off of my review had been posted over at 2Threads, under the name Gaia Gardiner. I was sure there must have been some mix up, so I headed over to 2Threads to check it out, and sure enough there are some obvious similiarities between the posts.

At first I wasn’t sure how to feel about this. Flattered? Annoyed? Upset? In the end I was just confused. Is it really that hard to whip up a simple beauty review? Did Gaia love my writing that much that she wanted to claim the review as her own? I sincerely doubt it. After all, it is just a beauty review and really nothing special at that. After thinking about it for a little while I emailed 2Threads and asked them to remove the review from their site. Then I waited. And waited. After hearing nothing all day and the review still sitting on the site (now with some commentary at the bottom – thanks guys), I emailed them again and explained that if the review was not removed I would contact their host server to remove the post. I’ve still not heard anything from any of the people at 2Threads and the review is still up on their site. I’ll wait a couple of days before contacting their site host, and hope for the best. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout today, in particular the dear SassiSam and Patty Huntington who both made their voices well and truly heard.

Note: 2Threads have sinced removed the review, and emailed me an explanation and apology.

Australia Day

I live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The beach pictured above is 15 minutes away from my house. I often stop and think about how beautiful this country is, and how lucky I am. I hope I never take it for granted. As with a lot of places, Australia has darkness in it’s history, but that discussion is for another time and another place. Today I am reflecting on the strength and beauty of my country and the people who reside here. We are celebrating the multiculturalism of our society with a street party BBQ this afternoon, where everyone is bringing a dish to represent their culture and heritage. Happy Australia Day to my fellow Aussies – we truly are the lucky ones.
