Project 10 Pan Update / January Empties

Finished up in January:

01: Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Seasilk Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner (travel sized)
02: L’Oreal Preference High Shine Colour Conditioner
03: Lancome Hypnose Mascara
04: NARS Sheer Matte Foundation in Siberia / Givenchy Photo Perfexion Foundation in Perfect Ivory

I put the two foundations together and counted them as one product because neither of the bottles had a lot of product remaining in them, and I felt guilty counting them separately. I’ve not been 100% dedicated to the cause this month either, and I sneakily bought myself a bottle of Kosmea Rosehip Oil, Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Porcelain Pink from Jess’ Blog Sale. Now watch me justify… I had completely run out of the Kosmea Rosehip Oil, and as it is one of my HG products, I needed it back in my routine asap. The cleanser was purchased because I will run out of the current cleanser that I’m using in a week or so and don’t want to have to wait for my new cleanser to be shipped here – pre-emptive strike. And as for the MAC… Well no money was exchanged as Jess also wanted some things from my blog sale, so really it’s a swap and not a purchase and therefore doesn’t count! Hooray! Bring on February.

Product Review: Alterna Caviar Overnight Hair Rescue

As I mentioned in a previous post, my first exposure to the Alterna hair care brand was via Kate Bosworth and her recommendation of the Caviar range. (Unfortunately this was in an InStyle article, and not over weekend girly brunch…) I was sent the Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Post Party Hair Rehab set for trial and review, and my favourite product from the set has to be the Overnight Hair Rescue. The product has a gel like consistancy that spreads easily through the hair and doesn’t leave it feeling heavy or weighed down. It also smells really nice, and has a subtle citrus fragrance to it. To use the overnight hair rescue you dispense a small amount (roughly the size of a 10c piece) into your hands, rub them together and then distribute evenly throughout your hair – paying special attention to the dry and damaged ends. Leave it in overnight, and wash it out in the morning. Voila! Glossy, treated hair. I love how unfussy this product is, and how easy it is for me to treat my hair overnight without having to apply a product during my shower and wait for it to sink in without the water running (there is a water shortage you know) before washing it out. I would definitely repurchase this product again in the future. (Though I can tell the tube is going to last quite a while, as I only need one pump per use – and my hair is relatively long.) The Alterna range is free of Parabens, Mineral Oil, Phthalates, Gluten and Petrolatum. The Alterna Caviar Overnight Hair Rescue retails for for $48.60 AUD and is available for purchase at high end boutiques and salons. For stockist information check the website. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Product Review: Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

My first exposure to the haircare brand Alterna came many years ago when Kate Bosworth mentioned using their caviar range in an interview with InStyle magazine. So my interest was piqued and of course, despite my searching I could not find the brand available for purchase anywhere in Australia. The years passed and to be honest the brand slipped my mind – until I recently received an email regarding the Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Post Party Hair Rehab. My hair has been frazzled lately, which I am putting down to the fact that in my rushed pre-Christmas state, I’m not spending enough time nurturing it as I should. So this post party hair rehab sounded like something I urgently needed in my life. I’ve been using the shampoo & conditioner since receiving it a couple of weeks ago, and I am somehow still not finished the bottles (despite washing my hair every day) but I thought I would put my review up anyway. Firstly, the shampoo and conditioner both have a lovely citrus smell that is nice and invigorating during my 5am shower time. Also, the shampoo lathers up a LOT so you only need a small amount of product to go a long way. Now, after using the product for a few weeks now I have to admit that I do not think it is ideal for my hair type. I have thin hair (a lot of it) that is prone to oiliness that I wash every day because I am yet to master the art of taming it to be washed every couple of days. I noticed that after a couple of days of using this product in a row my hair seemed quite weighed down by product. The Alterna range uses caviar extract that contains omega 3 fatty acids that help to smooth down the hair shaft and promote shine. I’m not sure if this is the reason why my hair seemed ‘thicker’ than usual, but it’s my guess. Don’t get me wrong, my hair looked great, but it felt kind of strange and heavy to me. I think the shampoo & conditioner would be better suited to people who have thicker hair than I, or who wash their hair on a less frequently than I do. I will post a review soon on the Overnight Hair Rescue – which I absolutely LOVE. The Alterna range is free of Parabens, Mineral Oil, Phthalates and other nasty things. The Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo retails for $37.95 AUD and the Caviar Moisture Conditioner for $39.95 AUD. Both products are available for purchase at high end boutiques and salons. For stockist information check the website. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)
