(I find it’s good to get a head start to take advantage of the international online end of season sales…) I didn’t manage to buy everything that I had wanted to stock up my basic wardrobe for this season, but I definitely have less to buy last year – and am one step closer to the 4-5 French Wardrobe way of life. Guest Post: Winter Beauty Essentials – Laura from ‘Life, Beauty, Laughter’

Time for our fourth in a series of Winter Beauty Essential guest posts. This time we hear from Laura – creator of the always inspiring blog Life, Beauty, Laughter.

01: Mecca Nail Colour in Perdita – This is a beautiful taupe colour which, I suspect, was inspired by Chanel Particuliere. Having compared them, Perdita is less brown with a touch of grey and mauve. Whenever I wear this, I am showered in compliments (as I am typing, I have counted four today!) It is chic, unique, versatile and the formula applies smoothly and lasts well (particularly with Mecca Top Coat sealing the edge of the nail).

02: Elemental Herbology Cell Food – I love this serum, along with the rest of the Elemental Herbology range. It is literally like food for your skin – very nutritious food. It contains an amazing array of antioxidants, including green tea and Vitamin A, C and E, which keep my skin supple and radiant.

03: By Terry Lip Expert in Freaky Pink – My favourite lipgloss in the whole world! I especially love this one during winter because the texture is so lovely and hydrating, and it gives my lips a bright pop of opalescent pink that brightens up wintery clothes and rainy days beautifully.

Winter tradition: I love curling up on the couch to watch romantic comedies (Julie and Julia, Once and Love Actually are a few favourites) with a warm blanket, green tea and dark chocolate – especially when it is raining outside!

Guest Blog: Winter Beauty Essentials – Kirsten Carriol from Lanolips

Time for our third guest post from another beauty expert regarding their favourite winter beauty essentials. This time, it’s the lovely Kirsten Carriol – creater of the great Australian beauty brand Lanolips.

01: Lanolips 101 Ointment – I really truly do use it for EVERYTHING. Every single night before bed so my lips stay moist, dry nose, children’s dry cheeks and lips and I even add it to my normal moisturiser when my skin is really dry, before bed to wake up with dewy morning skin.

02: My new Lanolips Hand Balm Intense – I use it every night and every morning. Its definitely going to be too rich for some people, but not for me! I love the added rose oil and the protective layer of moisture that it leaves on the hands to keep them soft and hydrated.

03: St Tropez Tan – to make me look alive as I battle through Winter.

My favourite Winter tradition is cooking marshmallows and drinking cognac in front of our new fire pit we bought at Coco Republic a few years ago. So calming. You feel like you are 14 and going camping again.

Autumn/Winter Wardrobe Update #3

May was a quiet month as far as wardrobe organisation goes. I only ended up purchasing 2 new things for my wardrobe, and only one of those items was on my wishlist. Oops. Luckily the second item was quite cute and I will get a lot of wear out of it. I bought the Silence & Noise All Over Studded Tank in black, (which is now on sale, of course) and the Heavy Rotation Animal Print Raglan in navy bear. The raglan wasn’t on my list but I really like bears. So yeah, try and take that foolproof reasoning away from me – I dare you. Here is my updated wardrobe list:

Tops
** sheer black / print / floral blouses (x2)
* black cashmere v-neck sweater
** black cashmere cardigan (x2)
silence and noice black studded silk tank
black silk/jersey tee

illustrated people love/hate raglan sweater
* radarte hooded sweater
bear print raglan sweater

Bottoms
** black pencil skirts (will need to purchase 2 new skirts for work)
black pencil skirt
black cigarette style pants
* dark denim jeans (need to purchase 1 more pair)
dark denim straight leg jeans (x2)

Dresses

wittner peep toe motorcycle/wedge boots
black hightop converse sneakers

The Rodarte/Radarte is not back in stock yet, and I get the feeling it won’t be coming back into stock anytime soon. I am quite sad about this, but thinking positive and hoping for the best. I probably won’t be adding anything new to my wardrobe next pay, possibly the pay after that. My outlook at the moment is all about fiscal responsibility so if it’s not something I really “need” or can fit inside my shopping budget for the fortnight, I am avoiding it at all costs. Considering the fact that the next piece I will be buying will be made of cashmere, I’m doubting I’ll be able to fit that into my $150 shopping budget per fortnight. Time will tell…

Guest Blog: Winter Beauty Essentials – Kate from Adore Beauty

Our second guest post regarding beauty experts and their winter beauty essentials comes from Kate – founder of the amazing Australian online beauty store Adore Beauty.

Winter Beauty Essentials – Kate from Adore Beauty

Winter for me means three months of fighting dehydrated skin. I love my central heating, but goodness, it really does dry out my face! My three winter must-haves include:

01: Skinceuticals Retexturing Activator – what a godsend. This serum is super hydrating AND exfoliating, so it’s the best for getting rid of winter flakies.

02: Aesop Geranium Leaf Hydrating Body Treatment – I love using this on damp skin, just after turning off the shower. That way I can moisturise from neck to toe without having to leave the nice steamy shower cubicle.

03: Benefit Benetint – this berry tint on my cheeks gives me that gorgeous snow-bunny flush. Which is handy, because I don’t ski, so there’s no other way of getting it!

My winter tradition is badgering my partner to cook me his famous Cheesy Triangle Hotpot. It’s a delicious thick rich spicy vegetarian casserole, baked in the oven with cheesy triangle scone-like dumplings on top. Trust me, on a chilly Melbourne winter night, it’s the best thing you’ll ever eat. Particularly with a nice glass of Heathcote shiraz!

Guest Blog: Winter Beauty Essentials – Celeste from Adore Beauty

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have asked a few of my beauty insider friends to tell me a little bit about their must-have items for surviving the winter months. First up is the absolutely delightful Celeste from Adore Beauty (who also happens to be my personality-twin!)

Winter Beauty Essentials – Celeste from Adore Beauty

Ahhh, winter. Season of sniffles, red noses, dry hair and flaky skin. Reow. Despite these beauty afflictions, winter is actually my favourite time of year. The key is being prepared and nourishing my skin and hair. Who can say no to that kind of pampering? Gosh, it’s hard sticking to three… but here are my top three picks for staying fresh and lustrous in winter:

01. Aesop Perfect Hydrating Facial Cream: hydrating yet not too rich for my combination skin, this moisturiser is packed with vitamins to ward off dryness and stop skin from looking dull. It keeps my skin soft and battles dehydration, without being oily. A real winner.

02. Alpha-H Liquid Gold Smoothing + Perfecting Mask: this mask hydrates, exfoliates and smoothes the skin, keeping it looking supple and feeling soft. I use it weekly in winter to boost hydration levels and help remove any pesky dry skin.

03. Moroccanoil: after shampooing and conditioning, applying a small amount of Moroccanoil to damp hair will help to protect it from the elements (wind, heating etc). This nourishing oil is suitable for all hair types and adds shine and strength to my locks. It smells delicious – and it shortens styling time. Bonus!

My favourite things about winter are beanies and scarves… and my secret tradition of Friday night footy. I love nothing more than staying in on a Friday night with a blanket, the heater on, the footy on tv and the kettle close by. If Geelong is playing, I even sit on the sofa wearing my vest, Cats beanie and scarf. Please don’t judge.

Winter Beauty Essentials

I love winter. In fact I think I love it more than is probably normal. It might have something to do with the fact that winter (at least for me) represents a nice break from the sweltering 40 degrees + days of summer here in Australia. Trust me, those get pretty old rather fast. The winters here in Western Australia are reasonably mild (our average temperature in the middle of winter is 17 degrees celcius during the day) so the effects are not too damaging. Either way, there is a definite shift in my beauty routine, and general “look” for this amazing season.

Here are my top 5 beauty essentials for this winter…

01: First things first, I simply cannot survive winter without organic rosehip oil. I use this every two days in place of my night-time moisturiser, and find that my skin just drinks it in. I have been using the Kosmea certified organic rosehip oil, and am still loving it.

02: Winter is the only time I ever feel comfortable wearing red lips. I find summer to be so sweltering hot that my makeup sort of melts off of my face so I tend to stick to a tinted lip balm. In winter however, I am happy to be pale faced and red lipped. My favourite red lipstick at the moment is the Christian Dior Rouge Dior in ‘Stage Red’. Perfect to wear on it’s own as a matte red lip (how I tend to wear it), or with a touch of gloss over the top for a bit of added drama.

03: The L’Occitane Almond Cleansing & Soothing Shower Oil is heaven sent. (and a heavenly scent) I have been using this religiously in the shower, and it makes my skin soft and supple and helps to rehydrate after cold days spent in central heating. I have the body oil and exfoliant on my to-buy list!

04: Another product I use to help combat the hellish dry skin of winter is The Body Shop Cactus Brush. I scrub my whole body down pre-shower and it helps to remove dead skin cells, helps with circulation and aids in the prevention (and apparently treatment) of cellulite. It’s an invigorating process but it can be hard getting this done while standing in the freezing cold of the early mornings!

05: If you can use the O&M Seven Day Miracle Moisture Mask and successfully fight the urge to drink the entire bottle of product, I salute you. This product smells SO amazing. Honestly. It’s vanilla coconutty honey goodness leaves my hair soft and silky and smelling super sweet. Mr B agrees with me on this one too – it really does smell incredble. (and works on super dry winter-hating hair!)

One of my favourite traditions each winter is to settle down with a nice soft blanket and a cup of tea to re-watch The Secret Garden for the 150th time. I love that movie so much, and it invokes so many images and feelings of cold weather and winter for me. I find it the perfect companion for a cold, rainy day!

Stay tuned because I have asked a few of my favourite beauty-istas what their winter essentials are and will be posting their answers soon!
