In case you weren’t aware, I love making lists to plan and organise my life. So I am writing myself a little list of beauty products that I want to check out this spring/summer. I am also a terrible impulse buyer (something you should also know about me) so the likelyhood of me sticking to this list is not that great but what the heck I’m going to do it anyway.
Bath + Body Works Shower Gel & Body Lotion in “Pearberry” – Unsurprisingly I’m sure, I’ve already ordered this. (In fact, it was my first order through
HopShopGo – the new international parcel forwarding service set up by Pay Pal!) I visited Bath + Body works while in the US and nearly had a heart attack at how exciting and cheap it all was. My favourite scent by far is the Warm Vanilla Sugar, but I’m keen to try something else – and this Pearberry scent sounds delicious and rather summery!
Givenchy Le Prisme Blush Blooming in “Blooming Fuchsias” – I’m sure I don’t need to explain this one too much – look how bright and colourful it looks! And with a name like blooming fuchscias, it seems like a perfect match for spring. Also, I am a sucker for everything that Givenchy produces – especially in their cosmetic range.
Kevin.Murphy Hair Resort” –
‘Hair Resort has compactly packed a sexy, summer holiday in a jar!’ Um, yes please! I have tried samples of this in the past and really liked it. It gives a really nice beachy wave without making hair horrible and crunchy like some products can (and do).

I often see “haul” posts and videos on people’s blogs, and find them fascinating and often inspiring. (which is not always good, especially now when I’m on Project 10 Pan and have spent the afternoon at home sick watching youtube beauty haul videos and I feel the need to SHOP) But in any case, I thought you guys might be interested in seeing some of my recent aquisitions. So here they are. I’ll start with makeup…

First up is Lanolips in the shade apples ‘Apples’. I impulse bought this from Priceline on my way to work one morning (I think you’ll find that this post will make you realise I do that a LOT.) and I am really loving it. Disappointingly it doesn’t actually smell like apples it smells slightly cherry scented but taking into account the fact that it gives me such a pretty rouge pout all scent crimes are forgiven. Next are two Maybelline Shine Seduction Glossy Lip Colours that I also impulse bought recently (sensing a pattern?). I don’t normally buy a lot of drug store brand makeup, but these were $5 a pop so I figured I didn’t have much to lose. The light pink gloss is ‘Candy Desire’ which is a really pretty shimmering pink gloss that smells like watermelon. The dark purple gloss is ‘Fierce Fuscia’ which I haven’t actually tried out yet, so I can’t say much about it. Next is the NARS lipgloss in ‘Strawberry Fields’ that I bought online after seeing it
swatched over at Temptalia. It looks AMAZING in the swatches, but I’m just not loving it in person. It is heavily pigmented, and a lot darker than any of the NARS glosses I have owned in the past. I’m going to whip this out later on in the year and see if I can make it work for spring/summer. Finally is the NARS Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Skorpios. I had been lusting after the NARS Soft Touch Eyeshadows since first spotting them in one of the
Mecca catalogues and was torn as to which shade I wanted to buy. In the end I opted for Skorpios because I already have the MAC Shadestick in Beige-ing, and it looks quite similar to the NARS STE in Goddess. I am really glad that I bought Skorpios though because I love it. It’s a really beautiful bronzey colour that works well with my green eyes. I prefer the application of the NARS to the MAC (which are apparently being discontinued?) so I would opt for these over any shadesticks in the future.

Next up is skin and body care. First of all is the YSL Cinema perfume, which truthfully I only bought because my first choice Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille had sold out. I’ve been going through a fragrance identity crisis lately, and was really struggling to find something that I liked, but I’ve gone back to the old faithful warm-sweet smells that have never done me wrong. The YSL fits in pretty well to this catagory, as it warms up on my skin and has a nice heady sort of sweetness to it by mid-morning. I love it, but will definitely be attempting to source the Serge Lutens for myself sometime soon! Next is the Ultraceuticals Ultra A Hydration Booster that I was sent for review. I used this for the first time today, so I can’t really say much about it yet but will write up a full review soon. Then we have the
Clarins Eau Tranquility Silky-Smooth Body Creme and
Dermalogica Active Moist – both products I received for review, and have reviewed on the blog quite recently. Next is the Ole Henriksen Roll-On Blemish Attack that I purchased recently from Adore Beauty. I have been using this since receiving it in the post this week, and I really like it so far. It has a very strong tea-tree smell to it, and reminds me of a product from The Body Shop that I used as a teenager. (how depressing that I am still breaking out, 10 years later…) After that is the Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub which is a re-purchase, as I recently ran out. I love this product, it’s my favourite manual exfoliator and I use it once a week without fail. After that are two more Clarins products – both of which I received for review. The Beauty Flash Balm (which is a newfound favourite of mine) and the Daily Energizer Cream-Gel which I haven’t had a chance to try out yet. I will review these both properly soon.

Finally, hair products. Most of these were recent impulse purchases at Priceline on my way to work. I was only ever really looking for dry shampoo, but came out with a truckload of stuff I don’t even really need. (but will use up, of course.) First up is in fact a dry shampoo! It’s the Batiste dry shampoo in Tropical. I’ve not used this yet, but the smell is TO DIE FOR. Tropical is the perfect way to sum up the scent, it’s sort of pineapple-coconut smelling and I would love it if anybody out there could direct me to a body lotion that smells the same! I am starting to become hesitant to try this product after hearing quite a few reports that Batiste dry shampoos aren’t that friendly for dark hair, and that there are superior options out there. Despite that I will give this a go soon, because I don’t want the product to go to waste. Next is the Toni & Guy Iron-It Heat Defense Spray that I really bought because I liked that it was travel sized and thought it would come in handy. I am really bad with using heat defence products before straightening my hair, but I’ve been using this quite a bit lately. The smell of all Toni & Guy products is the same to me, and it reminds me of being in hospital a few years ago (as I used Toni & Guy shampoo and conditioner at the time), so that isn’t too pleasant but the quality of products make it worth the while. I also bought the Toni & Guy Boost-It Mousse and Rapid Response Leave-In Conditioner for the superficial reason of the cute little travel sized bottles. I also bought the mousse (and the dry shampoo in fact) with the intention of trying out
Holly’s top knot how-to. (I failed dismally as I soon as I realised I don’t have nearly enough hair to create a decent looking knot.) Next is the James Brown London Detangle Leave-In Conditioner which stinks like mens aftershave and doesn’t feel hydrating or conditioning at all to my hair. I wouldn’t bother buying this, it’s not a very good product in my opinion. Finally we have my one true love conditioner the Terax Crema. I have repurchased this countless number of times, and will continue to do so. This is my hair saviour and I find myself returning to it time and time again. (FYI I style stalked Liv Tyler for this product, and we all know she has perfect hair.)

What is great about this product…
I really love the texture of this body lotion, it feels thick but when applying it to my skin it felt really smooth and silky. (as the product name suggests) After applying my skin felt very soft and the softness and hydration seemed to last throughout the day. The smell of the
Clarins Eau Tranquility Silky-Smooth Body Cream is really quite strong, but I found it surprisingly pleasant. I don’t think I would wear this during the daytime on a regular basis, because I found that the smell lingered all day, and sort of clashed with my perfume. I do like that the smell lingers for such a long time because that is not always the case with scented body lotions. It was a real treat to apply at night, especially when I used it prior to my meditation sessions. The
Clarins Eau Tranquility Body Cream uses a combination of essential oils and plant extracts to provide the dual benefits of aromatherapy and phytotherapy*. (*the use of plants or plant extracts for medicinal purposes) The benefits of aromatherapy definitely came through, as when I used this product at night (and before meditating) I felt quite calm and relaxed.
What is not so great about this product…
I don’t really like the packaging of this product, and I’m not sure if it’s because I received a sample tube or what, but it just didn’t look that appealing to me. I much prefer the tub version, as pictured in this post.
My Rating: 7/10
The Clarins Eau Tranquility Silky-Smooth Body Cream retails for $62.00 AUD and is available for purchase online from Australian online beauty store
Active Skin.

For my fellow Australians, it’s nearly that time of year where we need to start thinking seriously about sun care. Now, I won’t go off on a tangent on how important it is to wear sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY because I’m sure you’ve heard it all a million times. If not, feel free to email me and I will give you the rundown. Nivea are set to release “Ultra Beach Protect SPF30+” in October 2010. Did you know your exposure the sun’s UV rays can be up to 25% stronger on the beach due to sand and water reflection? With that in mind, Nivea Sun, worldwide number one in sun care introduces Nivea Sun Ultra Beach Protect SPF30+, for ultra tough protection. The Ultra Beach Protect contains specially formulated UV filters that help improve your skin’s natural defence against the nasty rays that you are subjected to every day. There is 4 hours water resistancy, which is handy for those like me who are in and out of the water constantly when at the beach! The product also contains rich moisturisers to help alleviate skin from the “dry and tight feeling caused by heat and water”. The Nivea Sun Ultra Beach Protect retails for $13.95 AUD and will be available in October from leading pharmacies.

What is great about this product…
This moisturiser has been an absolute god send to my rather neglected body as of late. As winter comes to an end I’m finding that I am on the hunt for super rich and nourishing body moisturisers, and so far this one takes the cake. It is one of the richest body moisturisers that I have stumbled across that doesn’t label itself as a body butter.
“Ingredients naturally found in the skin are harnessed and then combined with an intensely rich and creamy Vitamin E and Almond Oil formulation.” I can really notice (and quite enjoy) the almond oil factor in the lotion. It has that added richness and depth that I usually accustom to a body oil. It is very thick and very creamy, but sinks into skin almost instantly. I
love the way my skin looks and feels after using this product, it has a very healthy glow about it and feels very hydrated and moisturised. The price point is very reasonable, with the
Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser retailing for $5.40 AUD for 250ml $7.99 AUD for 400ml. After a week of using this product at night before bed, my skin has lost it’s winter dryness and looks prepped and ready for spring/summer!
What is not so great about this product…
I can’t quite describe the smell (I’m sure you know by now how bad I am at scent descriptions) but whatever it is, I’m not sure I like it. It is quite overwhelming, and the fragrance seems to linger for quite a while after application. Which normally would be a good thing, if I liked the smell! That is the only downside to the moisturiser that I could find, and smell is always a personal preference, so I will still rate the product rather high.
My Rating: 7.5/10

Time now for our eighth and final in a series of Winter Beauty Essential guest posts. This time we hear from Katerina – makeup artist extraordinaire from
Adore Beauty! (you may remember Katerina from her set of “
Eyeshadow Bible” guest posts here at The Belle Lumiere!)

Winter for me, means the three R’s: relax, recuperate and renew. There’s nothing more appealing to me than staying indoors with a great big cup of tea, a good book and a rich face mask slathered on. As weather become’s cooler, my skin, body and hair definitely require a little more TLC.
SKIN – Although my skin is best described as combination to oily, I am quite often dehydrated. Especially in Winter when my skin is subject to freezing cold air and then harsh heating quite abruptly. Nothing cures this dehydration quite like a nice layer of Ultraceuticals Ultra Moisturiser Cream. It goes on beautifully under makeup, and if I’m feeling that extra bit dry, I’ll pop a little extra on before bed. Hello supple skin!
BODY – L’Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream is literally my little slice of heaven. This gorgeously thick cream feels amazing to apply, and
even works on uber-dry spots like my elbows knees and heels. One of my favourite things about it is the fact that it doesn’t have that greasy finish most thick creams tend to have.
HAIR – Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment – Ok this treatment is hardcore. And I need it because I am married to my GHD. I apply a generous amount to my locks and slap on a shower cap. The longer you leave this treatment on the better, so I’ll curl up with a book or a well loved DVD while I let this little beauty work it’s magic. After a good shampoo and condition, my hair is shiny and bouncy and completely restored. Love it.
TRADITION – Every year as soon as it starts getting awfully cold, my best friend and I will put a hair mask in, chuck on some wooly ugg boots and have toasted sandwiches and Earl Grey tea while we watch Love Actually. It’s not glamourous by any means, but it’s out initiation for Winter!

Australian company
Bloom Cosmetics originated from creator Natalie Bloom’s passion for aromatherapy-based products. Seventeen years later,
Bloom is returning to it’s heritage with a recent launch of the Bloom Organics range, now featuring a selection of 100% pure, certified organic essential oils. Personally, I have my eye on the ‘
Calming‘ essential oil blend – I think it would make for an amazing lazy Sunday bath experience! Available as single fragrances or custom blends, Bloom’s Certified Organic Essential Oils are ideal for use in an oil burner, bath or as a massage oil. The oils retail for $16-$28 AUD and are available from Bloom flagship stores, Myer, David Jones & online at the
Bloom website.

It’s taken me 3 weeks and I am already close to completing my second (and modified) version of Project 10 Pan. I do have one confession to make. I may or may not have impulse purchased a tube of Lanolips – in rhubarb, if you’re wondering – after hearing SO many rave reviews of the product. So far it definitely lives up to the hype, and I shall post a review soon. In the meantime, lets turn our attention away from that little project fail and instead admire my incredible product finishing skill. Seven down, three to go!

“Out damned spot, and let this vile smell that is my memory of minutes past be erased and sent down the drain to be forgotten with other waters.” – You just can’t beat
Evo for hilariously quirky product packaging. Recently
Evo hair expanded to include
Evo body and I was sent a couple of samples from the new range. The first I tried out was the new “Soap Dodger” body wash. Unfortunately I am without a pretty and official picture, so I’ve twitpic’d a shot of my very own bottle. How quaint.
What is great about this product…
I love every single product from Evo that I’ve tried so far but they have all been from the hair range, so I was definitely curious about the body products before I had a chance to try them out. I’ll start with the smell, as I often do… I think the soap dodger body wash smells very similar to
Evo End Doctor – a fruity sort of smell, that reminds me of the old Body Shop Dewberry range but with a hint of mint. It isn’t a smell that I would normally opt for in a body wash as I am a vanilla/musky scent sort of girl, but this is definitely refreshing. For me it’s more of a summer product than a winter one as it has a very “fresh/clean” sort of vibe to it. The body wash itself is light and lathers up really easily but not a lot. It wasn’t a bubble overload, which was great because I actually prefer my body wash to be more moisture, less bubbles. After rinsing my skin felt super soft and moisturised. The soap dodger body wash is suitable for all body types, and contains no sulphates, parabens or propylene glycol (nasty things).
What is not so great about this product…
Nothing big really, just the fact that I prefer my shower products (body washes, etc) to be packaged in pump top bottles rather than the screw top bottles. I just find them easier to manage, because I hate having to screw the little lids back on with slippery hands!
The Evo Soap Dodger Body Wash retails for $5.95 AUD for 50ml, or $19.95 AUD for 300ml and was apparently available as of the 1st of May 2010 (though I can’t see details of the product on the Evo website yet, I will update with more information if/when I have it…). You can visit the Evo website for futher product information and store locations, or shop for Evo online at Adore Beauty.

I was recently send the
Clarins Hand And Nail Treatment Cream to trial and review. I didn’t think at the time that it would be good enough to push the La Source Hand Therapy cream off of my “Holy Grail” product list, but you know what? It has…
What is great about this product…
Where to start… The smell of the hand cream is quite similar to a lot of the Clarins product range that I’ve used previously. I really love the scent but always find it quite hard to describe. It’s a sweet, creamy sort of fragrance that lingers for quite a while after applying the product to your skin. The cream itself is thick, but sinks into the skin very quickly without leaving any sort of oily residue. (I’ve found it to be a great cream to use at work because of this – I can jump straight back on the computer keyboard after applying without having to worry about making a mess of the keys) As it is a hand & nail treatment cream, it is also supposed to strengthen nails. I haven’t really noticed much of a difference with my nails, but I had no real issues there to start with, so I’m not sure what change I should be looking for. I have been using this hand cream daily for a few weeks now, and my hands feel so soft and smooth. The product promises to moisturise and promote smooth, supple hands and I believe it does just that! I will definitely be re-purchasing once my tube runs out.
What is not so great about this product…
The only real issue I can think of is that I can imagine a few people considering $40 AUD to be quite a high price to pay for a hand cream. Having said that, I have been using the cream non stop and it hasn’t made much of a dent in the amount left in the tube.
The Clarins Hand And Nail Treatment Cream retails for $40 AUD and can be purchased online from Australian beauty store Adore Beauty. The Clarins range is also stocked at leading department stores and some specialist pharmacies.
