Top 11 in 2011

I have seen these posts popping up on a lot of my favourite blogs, so like the good little lemming that I am I decided to do one of my own. It was surprisingly hard to cull down my lists of favourite products from this year to just 11, but I managed to do it in the end. So without further ado and in no particular order, my top 11 products of 2011 are:

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille Fragrance – This is without a doubt my favourite perfume of all time. I am terrible at describing scents, but to me this smells like a warm smoked vanilla (aka my ultimate fragrance), and the lasting power of Serge Lutens perfumes are second to none.

Flourish Bath & Body Sugar Perfume Oil – As I mentioned in my review of this perfume, it is probably the most highly complimented scent I’ve ever owned. For the low price, the quality of the entire Flourish Perfume Oil range really can’t be beaten.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – Probably the biggest mascara release of the year in terms of beauty blogging status, and well worthy of the hype in my opinion. Though I rarely stray from my all time favourite mascara (Lancome Hypnose), this will definitely be a staple in my makeup bag moving forward into 2012.

NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage – This was probably my most-worn lipstick in 2011. One of the first bright lipsticks I’ve ever owned and now I don’t think I could live without it. Perfect on pretty much any skin tone, this hot pink is a must have for all, in my opinion.

MAC Eyeshadow in Orb – Without a doubt the best neutral eyeshadow colour I’ve found to match my skin tone. As always, the MAC eyeshadow quality is amazing and lasts well throughout the day. A new holy grail item for me.

b collection by Bloom Cheek Tint in Yarra Valley – This was a completely random, spur of the moment purchase in Target on one of my trips to Sydney but boy am I glad to have discovered this blush. Pretty, pretty, pretty.

Biotherm White D-Tox BB Cream – BB Creams were a big thing in my life for about 2 months this year, but then all of the attention seemed to peter off a bit. The BB cream product that stood the test of time for me this year was this one. From what I’ve seen it’s received mixed reviews from people so definitely try before you buy.

Bath + Body Works Twisted Peppermint Body Lotion – After using the Twisted Peppermint scented anti-bac hand gel earlier in the year I was determined to try out the body lotion this Christmas and it did not disappoint. If you’re a fan of sweet peppermint scents this is a product for you.

Echolife Floral Facial Mist – A new discovery for me, but a welcome one. I’ve been trying to find a rose mist that I love as much as the Kora one but at a much more affordable price point and this is it. Not only is the product lovely, but the packaging is beautiful.

NP Set Calming Pre-Foundation Primer – The only product (except maybe Clarins’ Beauty Flash Balm) that has ever swayed me towards being a fan of facial primers. An absolute must-have for girls with red undertones in their skin. But be cautious and use sparingly because the product does contain a slight shimmer.

Lanolips Lip Ointment in Sunshine – My favourite gloss this summer. Want subtle, glossy, orange/coral lips? This is the product for you.

November Favourites

November was yet another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it month for me, despite celebrating my 27th birthday, nothing really seemed to happen. I’ve been using quite a few of the same things on rotation lately, but there were still some stand out products that I thought it best to mention. My pick of the bunch for November: By Terry Ultra-Correcting Foundation, Benefit ‘They’re Real’ Mascara, Echolife Floral Facial Mist, b collection by Bloom ‘Barcelona’ Nail Polish & Byredo Gypsy Water perfume.

Product Review: Flourish Bath & Body Perfume Oil in Sugar

I didn’t think anything could top the Almond Milk perfume oil as my favourite product from the Flourish Bath + Body range, but then there was Sugar. This perfume is the single most complimented fragrance that I have ever worn. From people literally stopping me on the street to co-workers standing near my desk saying “something smells like cake” – people just seem to love it. I love it too, and as I am admittedly crap at describing scents, I’ll borrow the description from Flourish’s Etsy store – “Ethereal, delicate sweetness- a stray tendril of spun sugar wafting on a cool breeze. Sweet, of course- but not at all cloying or sticky. Rather, it’s watery, light, crisp. Orange blossom, vanilla, berries, a hint of anise – but “Sugar” really describes it best.” It is a sweet scent, and the name sugar really seems to suit it perfectly. I find the perfume oils last well on me throughout the day, but one of my best girlfriends has one and it doesn’t seem to last as long on her. Having said that I do tend to reapply during the day because the little roller ball packaging is so easy to take with me in my purse to work. The Flourish Bath + Body Perfume Oils retail for $9 USD and are available for purchase from the Etsy Store.

October Favourites

I’m a little bit late with my favourites this month, but late is better than never right? (right.) Product Review: Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh Lotion

Summer is coming, which means it’s time to start baring the flesh you’ve been keeping hidden for the world for a few months (Unless of course you’re one of those people who parade around in tiny little dresses in the freezing cold without tights or a jacket on – and if you are, my apologies as I’ve probably laughed at you at some stage). I have been using the Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh Daily Light Lotion as part of my routine for summer preparation, and am loving it. The lotion is lightweight, absorbs quickly into skin and feels lovely and moisturising. The aloe smell is light and super refreshing, and one of my friends even complimented me on my perfume when all I was wearing is this lotion. Nice! It also contains SPF 15, which will help to block 93% of the suns nasty rays. If you’re in the market for a hard working lightweight body moisturiser this season, this could be just the product for you. The Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh Daily Light Lotion retails for $7.68 AUD and is available for purchase from supermarkets and pharmacies throughout Australia. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Product Review: Nivea’s Invisible For Black & White Deodorant

I’ve not seen many reviews of deodorant in the blogsphere which surprises me a bit because it’s such a necessity. Especially in Australia where you can break a sweat just by breathing. Glamourous! The Nivea Invisible For Black & White deodorant is designed not to show stains on both white and black clothing (as the name would suggest), which is great for me as my wardrobe is almost exclusively black. (“I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour.”) I know that the deodorant doesn’t stain because it passed my “get changed 50 times in one morning because nothing bloody works” test last casual Friday. I pulled on and off various black blouses only to find that none of them had stained. Brilliant. It also does a good job of keeping perspiration at bay and smells fresh and clean like deodorant should. The Nivea Invisible For Black & White Deodorant retails for $4.99 AUD and is available for purchase from supermarkets and pharmacies nation wide. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)
