Product Review: Clarins Daily Energizer Cream-Gel

What is great about this product…

The Daily Energizer range is Clarins’ first range for young skin. Now, I’m probably not in the “young” category anymore, (When does that cut off by the way? I’m nearly 26… egad.) but I do have sensitive skin that is prone to breaking out, so this range seems like something that my skin would react well to. The daily energizer cream claims to “help reduce imperfections and boost radiance”, and I do I really like the “glow” that this cream gives to my skin after application. The product itself is thick and seems to be quite a rich sort of cream, but it applies like a gel. It is lightweight but feels very moisturising. I like the fact that a little of the product goes a long way, and for $38 AUD, I can see the jar lasting quite a long time.

What is not so great about this product…

I don’t like the smell. And I know you hear this a lot from me so you probably don’t even pay any mind to it anymore. I am notoriously fussy when it comes to product fragrance. The Daily Energizer range claims to have “refreshing fruit scented formulas” but the smell of this cream is definitely botanical. At least to my nose. And the scent does linger for most of the morning, or at least until I apply my makeup over the top. I do enjoy using the Clarins Daily Energizer Cream-Gel, but to be honest I don’t think I would repurchase in the future.

My Rating: 4/10

The Clarins Daily Energizer Cream-Gel retails for $38 AUD for 30ml and is available for purchase online via Australian online beauty site Adore Beauty.

Product Review: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

What is great about this product…

I had heard a lot of chatter about the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm prior to receiving it for review – mostly regarding the fact that Gwyneth Paltrow is a huge fan – so I was certainly interested to see what all the fuss was about. At first I was unsure how to properly use this product (see the ‘what is not so great’ section below) but I’ve been using the Beauty Flash Balm after toning in place of moisturiser and right before applying my foundation, and I am loving the effect it gives. It’s similar to a primer (which I normally loathe) in the fact that it seems to even out the complexion and make everything look rather flawless. Two of my girlfriends complimented me on my makeup the first night I tried this technique out – so thankfully it wasn’t just me imagining things in the mirror. One thing in particular that I did notice is that my oily skin wasn’t as shiny at the end of the night when I used the BFB – I am putting this down to the fact that one of the key ingredients is Witch Hazel, which has natural astringent qualities. Despite it being heavily scented with the infamous Clarins “creamy” smell, my skin did not reactive in a negative way at all. I will definitely be repurchasing this product after I finish the tube and will definitely take it along with me next time I travel!

What is not so great about this product…

Before I had the clarity of mind to consult the ladies over at the Adore Beauty forums as to how best apply this product, I decided to give myself a 10-15 minute facial as the instructions suggest to do. Note: This product is best applied to DAMP SKIN. I applied it to dry skin, left it for 15 minutes and removed the excess with a tissue, only to find that the product continued to “pill” on my skin. On damp skin, it’s a great product, on dry skin – not so much. I would also suggest trying out a sample of the Beauty Flash Balm before purchasing a full size, because from what I’ve seen in regards to reviews of the product, the reception is around 50/50 as to whether it’s good or not. Having said that, Beauty Flash Balm has just celebrated 30 years of continued success worldwide, and there is one tube sold every 20 minutes around the world. So yeah, it’s definitely doing some good things!

My Rating: 8/10

The Clarins Beauty Flash Balm retails for $60 AUD and is available at leading department stores, Clarins Gold Salons, select pharmacies or online from Australian online beauty store Adore Beauty.

Product Review: Clarins Silky Smooth Body Cream

What is great about this product…

I really love the texture of this body lotion, it feels thick but when applying it to my skin it felt really smooth and silky. (as the product name suggests) After applying my skin felt very soft and the softness and hydration seemed to last throughout the day. The smell of the Clarins Eau Tranquility Silky-Smooth Body Cream is really quite strong, but I found it surprisingly pleasant. I don’t think I would wear this during the daytime on a regular basis, because I found that the smell lingered all day, and sort of clashed with my perfume. I do like that the smell lingers for such a long time because that is not always the case with scented body lotions. It was a real treat to apply at night, especially when I used it prior to my meditation sessions. The Clarins Eau Tranquility Body Cream uses a combination of essential oils and plant extracts to provide the dual benefits of aromatherapy and phytotherapy*. (*the use of plants or plant extracts for medicinal purposes) The benefits of aromatherapy definitely came through, as when I used this product at night (and before meditating) I felt quite calm and relaxed.

What is not so great about this product…

I don’t really like the packaging of this product, and I’m not sure if it’s because I received a sample tube or what, but it just didn’t look that appealing to me. I much prefer the tub version, as pictured in this post.

My Rating: 7/10

The Clarins Eau Tranquility Silky-Smooth Body Cream retails for $62.00 AUD and is available for purchase online from Australian online beauty store Active Skin.

Product Review: Clarins Hand And Nail Treatment Cream

I was recently send the Clarins Hand And Nail Treatment Cream to trial and review. I didn’t think at the time that it would be good enough to push the La Source Hand Therapy cream off of my “Holy Grail” product list, but you know what? It has…

What is great about this product…

Where to start… The smell of the hand cream is quite similar to a lot of the Clarins product range that I’ve used previously. I really love the scent but always find it quite hard to describe. It’s a sweet, creamy sort of fragrance that lingers for quite a while after applying the product to your skin. The cream itself is thick, but sinks into the skin very quickly without leaving any sort of oily residue. (I’ve found it to be a great cream to use at work because of this – I can jump straight back on the computer keyboard after applying without having to worry about making a mess of the keys) As it is a hand & nail treatment cream, it is also supposed to strengthen nails. I haven’t really noticed much of a difference with my nails, but I had no real issues there to start with, so I’m not sure what change I should be looking for. I have been using this hand cream daily for a few weeks now, and my hands feel so soft and smooth. The product promises to moisturise and promote smooth, supple hands and I believe it does just that! I will definitely be re-purchasing once my tube runs out.

What is not so great about this product…

The only real issue I can think of is that I can imagine a few people considering $40 AUD to be quite a high price to pay for a hand cream. Having said that, I have been using the cream non stop and it hasn’t made much of a dent in the amount left in the tube.

The Clarins Hand And Nail Treatment Cream retails for $40 AUD and can be purchased online from Australian beauty store Adore Beauty. The Clarins range is also stocked at leading department stores and some specialist pharmacies.

Product Review: Clarins Everlasting Foundation

Clarins recently released a new product – the Everlasting Foundation, a long-lasting foundation that is designed to “stay true” for 15 hours. “The High Fidelity System, an invisible microfilm that ensures even coverage and 15 hours of flawless hold. The Light Optimising complex captures, diffuses and amplifies light. Both ensure a radiant and flawless complexion.” Sounds pretty good, huh. Well I was lucky enough to be sent a bottle for trial and review, so here we go…

What is great about this product…

I will start, as I so often do, with the scent of the product. Clarins products have a history (at least in my opinion) of smelling amazing, and the Everlasting Foundation is no exception. It has a less rosy smell than it’s counterparts, and has a rather distinct fruity “melon” scent. It’s very pleasant, and not overpowering. The foundation is rich and creamy, and gives medium to full coverage – depending on how much product you’re applying. And the foundation lasts. Initially the foundation gives a sort of matte finish, but the natural radiance of your skin tends to blend through. I have combination oily skin, and after applying this foundation in the morning and going about my busy Saturday as per usual, I came home in the evening to see that I still looked quite well put together! My face had a nice “glow” about it (not oily, more of a radiant look), and I still had decent foundation coverage. Also, SPF in foundation is always a bonus.

What is not so great about this product…

If you are super pale faced like me and live in Australia, you will be unhappy to know that at this stage we are not carrying the entire line of foundation shades. Which means that the lightest colours in the line are not available for purchase. I trialled the lightest shade available -’Ivory’ which was probably 1 – 1 1/2 shades too dark for my complexion. This is not unusual in Australia though, for some reason a lot of brands seem to leave the lightest or two lightest shades off of the stock list. Aside from that issue, which is not going to be a problem for everyone – I couldn’t see anything wrong with this product.

The Clarins Everlasting Foundation retails for $65 AUD and can be purchased online from Adore Beauty

My Desk…

Inspired by the beautiful Laura of Life.Beauty.Laughter I decided to get up and take a quick happy-snap of my working desk to share with you all. I have not tidied up at all, this picture is my desk exactly as it stands right now…

* click for bigger

Kind of disorganised, but it’s the end of the week and I will do my big tidy-up during the weekend as I always do… So! Things on my desk right now:

01: My computer. It’s a HP touch screen all-in-one computer that I love. I do miss my laptop (it died on me recently) but this has been a wonderful replacement.

02: Antique ‘sparrow’ candle holder. (the odd looking thing to the side of the computer) I bought this in an antique store in downtown Phoenixville during my trip to the states last year. It’s probably an outdoor item but I think it’s so sweet I like to keep it on my desk. I should really find a tea candle to put inside at some stage…

03: My pretty IKEA lamp. I don’t know if this style is still available for purchase (I couldn’t see it on the site) but I fell in love with it because it reminded me of something Charlotte from SATC would have in her apartment. Ha, I’m so lame.

04: 750ml Pump water bottle. I always have a bottle of water on hand. I prefer the pump water bottles because of the pop-top. I don’t know why, but I find it easier to drink more water out of these than the regular screw-top bottles.

05: Kikki K Notebook. I write lists for practically everything. This book contains a lot of those lists. I like to keep track of things I might want to blog about, products I need to review, bills I need to pay etc – all of that goes into this notebook.

06: Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream. I was sent this product to review and have kept it on my desk for nightly use. I love it, and will post about it soon!

07: Manicare All-In-One & Essie Angora Cardi Nail Polish. I painted my nails on Wednesday evening (you all need Essie Angora Cardi btw – a friend of mine sent me a bottle as a gift, and it is perfection) and still have the bottles lying around.

08: Kikki K To Do List. I update this every weekend with the things I need to remember to do. Exciting things like “run fish filter” and “grocery shopping”. Do not envy my glamourous life.

09: Half completed grocery shopping list. I have a terrible memory (in fact I just thought of something to write on this list but have since forgotten…) and writing a grocery list is necessary for me to remember everything I need to buy for the week.

10: My engagement ring. I try not to wear this at night incase I give myself or Mr B a black eye by accident.

11: 45 cents. I clean my wallet out of all of the silver coins at the end of the week and put them into a big container to eventually take to the bank. I have only ever gone to the bank to complete this process once in my 25 years. I have a lot of silver coins stored for a rainy day!

12: Kikki K Love Heart Post It. I only have one left! Eek! Lucky I have a replacement pad in my storage box…

13: 2 loose leaf tea canisters. I picked these up at a tea party a friend of mine had to launch her friend’s organic tea range. They both have original blend loose leaf organic herbal tea inside.

14: Kikki K Accordian Expandable Filing Folder. For storing monthly bills and various important documentation.

15: Gogol Bordello Non Stop DVD. I bought this recently and have watched it, but need to take some screencaps for a Pamela Racine site that I set up and run for a friend.

16: Kikki K Proof Of Purchase Receipts Book. I like to keep track of what I spend my “shopping allowance” on every fortnight – and I do so in this handy little book!

17: Vitamins! I take Cod Liver Oil (with vitamins a&d), Zinc Formula and Vitamin E every night. Keeping them on my desk helps me to remember to take them.

18: Yet another Kikki K To Do List. This one is smaller and is in sticky note form. I use these throughout the week to remember things I need to do at work or around the house when I get home.

19: Kikki K Pen Holder full of various things including: abraham lincoln bookmark (purchased from the lincoln memorial store in washington), tiny bamboo hand-painted bookmark (gift from my best friend from her travels through japan), kikki k magnetised pegs, various pens, yellow and green highlighers & a paul and joe kitten nail file.

20: Kikki K Storage Box full of various things including: paper documents for filing, press releases for products I am yet to review, age of empires 3 PC game (nerd alert!), replacement kikki k to do list pad, blank kikki k notebook, replacement kikki k love heart post its, blank CDs, organic loose-leaf tea packets (so I can remember what tea I’m drinking), receipts for filing.

21: Some random things… A Sweet Valley High TV Series DVD (loose), Woman’s Weekly Chilli Con Carne Recipe Printout, $20 Sussan Gift Card & a pump water bottle cap.

How exciting! If you’re curious you can click the numbers next to the item in question and see some individual pictures I’ve taken with my iphone. So – what’s on your desk??

Product Review: Clarins One-Step Exfoliating Cleanser

The lovely people at RY (recreate yourself) were kind enough to send me a tube of one of their most popular products, the Clarins One-Step Exfoliating Cleanser to trial and review. One of my friends had mentioned this product to me in the past and I had always been curious about it so I was excited to finally be able to try it out!

What is great about this product…

I think one of the first things that will appeal to people about this product is the fact that it’s a one-step process. Admittedly this is not something I normally look for in a product, but it did make quite a big difference in the timing of my daily skin regime. It “gently exfoliates, detoxifies and tones in one single step”. The product itself is simple to use, you basically lather it onto damp skin and gently exfoliate. The exfoliation comes from the tiny little granules in the cleanser that you’re not able to feel until you start to gently work the product against your skin. I used the one-step exfoliating cleanser at night, and in the morning the next day my skin was glowing and seemed to look a lot fresher.
What is not so great about this product…
This product may not be the best thing for those with super sensitive skin. I do admit that after using the product the first time around my skin was slightly red, but each time I used it after that the redness seemed to become less and less of an issue. The product is advertised for use by people with all skin types, but I personally would only use this product at night if you do happen to have sensitive skin.

The Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser is available for purchase from RY and is currently on sale for $40.80 AUD! (International shipping options are available)
