My Nail Polish Collection & Storage

As with most things in my life, I tend to go through phases with nail polish. Sometimes I go for weeks on end wearing the same shade sometimes nothing at all. Other times I like to mix it up and can wear 2 or three shades a week. Sometimes I watch 5 seasons of the X Files in a row and become obsessed with finding the perfect neutral shade of polish à la Dana Scully, but that is a depressing life story for another day. Here is my current nail polish collection, and how I store it.

I store my nail polish in acrylic cutlery drawers that I found in Big W. I sort them by brand rather than by shade because I’m more familiar with what I own brand-wise than what I have within a certain colour range. I’m considering doing a series of weekly posts where I wear every single shade that I own at least once next year and do a NOTD post for each. Let me know if that is something you would be interested in!

May Favourites

Bioderma Crealine – This was the product that I was most excited to try from last month’s Lust Have It box, and I wasn’t disappointed. This is probably the most gentle yet effective makeup remover that I’ve tried, and I can definitely see myself repurchasing it in the future once this little sample sized bottle runs out.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – This is my favourite facial moisturiser to use in the cooler months of the year because it’s rich and more moisturising on my skin but doesn’t feel too heavy or thick.

Skindanavia No More Shine Spray – I use this spray every day to set my makeup. It doesn’t do anything to help stop shine, but it does help to keep my makeup on throughout the day, so I’m happy to continue using it.

Face of Australia Nail Polish in Foxy Roxy – This is one of the best ‘greige’ colours I’ve come across for fair skin and I got a LOT of wear out of it in May. It’s rare to find a polish in this colour range that doesn’t make me look like a corpse, but as this shade leans more towards a soft mushroom undertone rather than a brown it seems to work quite well. Unfortunately I’m not sure if this colour is still available from Face of Australia – but if you see it, be sure to pick one up!

Haus of Gloi Milkmaid Whipped Soap – I probably never would have tried out the Haus of Gloi Whipped Soaps had Anissa from Beautifully Glossy not previously mentioned her love for them. I’m glad that I picked this up though because I really love the texture of the soap, and the ‘milkmaid’ scent is right up my alley. The notes are listed as – “flushed, but demure. fresh milk, clean linens, pale must and pink sweet pea blossom.”. If the whipped soaps are released in the future in a scent that appeals to me I will definitely be picking them up.

October Favourites

I’m a little bit late with my favourites this month, but late is better than never right? (right.) My most reached for products in the month of October were: Bath + Body Works Exotic Coconut Body Splash, Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren & Essie Nail Polish in Pink Parka.

Product Review: Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze

I am one of those people who has never been confident wearing bronzer. There is something about the harsh contrast of ghost white skin and a brown toned bronzer that can just look… well, revolting. Short of bronzing my whole face (and then my white neck looks a little bit strange), it seems to be impossible to properly blend the brown shades into my skintone and keep things looking natural. In short, I have never been able to make the bronzer work for me. And then the Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze rolled into town.

I am yet to attempt to wear this in the day time, but at night time it works a treat. (Please note that I did apply this to my face with a very light hand – anything too heavy would have looked far too obvious on my skin. Also note that I have the pale grey pallor of a 3 day old corpse, so no doubt it would look different on those with a healthier skin tone than I.) The Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze contains light shimmer that looks wonderful under lights and makes adding extra highlight to the cheeks unnecessary. The Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze retails for $11.95 AUD and is available for purchase from these stockists. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Favourite Polishes: Winter

My polish preferences for the cold winter months tend to lean towards nice dark plum tones, deep burgundys, a simple soft pink or the occasional rock star black (in which case I am mocked at work for being a goth… “don’t talk to Jess, she’s a goth!”). In particular, these five shades are on high rotation on my nails this season – Mecca Cosmetica Audrey, Mecca Cosmetica Rosaline, OPI for Sephora Meet For Drinks, OPI for Sephora Brunette On The Internet & Face Of Australia Iron Ore.
