2019 Bucket List

2018 was a big year for me. Moving interstate was probably one of the biggest life challenges I have faced to date but it was definitely a worthwhile experience. I think 2019 is going to be mainly about establishing myself in Adelaide, branching out a bit more and trying new things.

Here is what is on my bucket list for the new year –

Get a new job
The end of February will mark one year of living in Adelaide, and unfortunately that is as long as my current employer will allow me to work remotely. I’m grateful for the opportunity I was given to continue to work from another state because I know exceptions were made for me which is amazing and I am so thankful. That being said, the time has come for me to find something here in Adelaide so I am officially on the hunt for the right opportunity.

Go on a holiday
It’s been over a year since Sebastian and I went on a holiday, so one of my goals for this year is for us to go away somewhere together. It doesn’t have to be a big trip or anything overseas (he has a lot of international travel coming up for work), even just a weekend away up the coast somewhere would be nice.

Return to Perth for a visit
A dear friend of mine is getting married in Perth in April so I’m hoping to return for a visit around that time. Ideally I would like to take an extended break and go down south to spend some time with my family as well, but this will all be dependent on my job situation.

Read 52 Books & Watch 52 Movies
My reading goal for 2019 is to read 52 books. Normally I aim for around 50, but I beat that challenge by quite a bit in 2019 and I think a book a week is a reasonable goal for me. I’ve been trying to watch more movies lately too, so I’ve tacked on a 52 movie challenge as well.

Finish writing my novella
One of my favourite ways to spend my free time is writing, but this has fallen by the wayside recently. I have two works in progress at the moment that I am excited about and I’m looking forward to spending time working on them both and spending more time interacting with my writing community.

Explore and get to know Adelaide
Because I’ve been working from home for most of the year, and because Sebastian is originally from Adelaide and is so familiar with the city, I haven’t done a lot of driving or exploring by myself. I think a key to me feeling more at home here is getting more familiar with my surroundings, so I hope to work on that a bit more this year.

May Goals

Honestly guys, April was a terrible month for me in a myriad of ways. But it’s a brand new month, and I have a feeling that May will be a beginning of things turning around for me and becoming a bit more positive. With that in mind, I have decided to bring back my monthly goals. They’re a bit of fun and I feel like they’re a good way for me to keep track of how I’m doing. Here are my goals for the month –

* Practice daily affirmations to encourage positive vibes
* Make an effort to read every night before bed
* Work going to the gym back into my weekly routine
* Work on transferring our mortgage to a different bank
* Plant some new things and mulch the front and back yard
* Get a haircut (finally!)
* Re-watch the original Alien movies and go and see the new film when it comes out

I think that makes a nice little list that combines things that I need to get done with the things I want to do for myself to help bring some positive energy back into my life. I’ll be sure to check in next month and let you know how I went, and what my new goals for the month are.

January Goals

*Gordon Ramsay voice* Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Can you believe it’s actually 2017? I certainly can’t. But here we are, in a brand new year. I feel like this is going to be a really good year and I hope you feel it too. My main focus for 2017 is to find things that I love, and fill my time doing them. I’m going to work hard in every aspect of my life, and I want to see results by the end of the year. Here are my goals for the month, in no particular order –

* Focus on spending time doing things the that I enjoy
* Spend less energy on wasting time, and spend more time working on fruitful projects that make me happy
* Send through mortgage transfer documentation to the bank
* Get the oven professionally cleaned
* Continue working on the backyard to make it “Summer BBQ“ friendly
* Get a hair cut

I think that’s a nice balance of doing things for myself, and getting things done. Please let me know what your goals for the month are… if you have any!

Spring/Summer Bucket List Check-In

Earlier in the year I posted my Spring/Summer Bucket List for 2016, and I thought it was high time I checked in and let you know how I was going. So far, not so good.

– Make sweet tea on the weekends (I have made this a total of ONE time)
– Grill out on the BBQ on nice evenings (We haven’t had an opportunity to do this yet, but the weather is warming up – it was 41C today – so we definitely will be soon… I just need to bug spray the entirety of the back yard first)
– Go for walks along the beach on weekends (We went for our first coastal walk last weekend and I loved it. Sebastian on the other hand hates the ocean, so it might have to be something I do solo from now on)
– Get a professional pedicure (Not yet!)
– Host a dinner party (Also not yet!)
– Work on the garden to make it “summer BBQ” friendly (I’ve been working on this gradually, so probably by the time summer is over we’ll actually be ready for BBQ season)
– Go down south for a long weekend (We haven’t been yet, but my parents have moved down there so we’ll definitely be spending more time down there than we used to… FREE ACCOMMODATION!)
– Swim as much as possible (I have not swam once)
– Go to Adelaide for a mini holiday (We’re trying to focus on our long-term goals rather than short-term indulgences, so we postponed our Adelaide trip this season and put the money towards our savings)
– Go to the Wanneroo Show (Nope)
– Watch the movies on my Halloween ‘to-watch’ list (I managed to watch all of them except Goosebumps!)
– Make a summer-y music playlist to listen to while driving (Yes, and it’s awesome! Although to be honest I’ve been listening to nothing but Christmas carols this month)
– Read all the books on my summer reading list (Not yet…)
– Try fake tanning (lol, no)

I haven’t given up yet! There are still two and a bit months to make my bucket list dreams come true. I’m really looking forward to 2017, I feel like it’s going to be a good year for me. I’m looking to ticking all of these items off of my bucket list, and planning some more!

November Goals

First up, let’s take a look at how I went with last month’s goals

Work as much overtime as possibleAs it turned out there was only one weekend in the month of November that I didn’t work overtime, and that was because I booked a few days of leave and wanted to make the most of the break. At this stage, it’s unlikely I’ll be able to take any time off for a few months (due to workload), so I didn’t want to have anything disturb my ‘last hurrah’ of relaxation.
Work on the garden to make it “summer BBQ” friendlyI started tackling the weeds in the back yard, and removed a few plants that had not survived the winter. I still have quite a way to go, but baby steps is the plan at this stage.
Participate in the SpookathonYou can read my Spookathon Wrap Up here
Watch the movies on my Halloween ‘to-watch’ listI only managed to cross 2 movies off my to watch list, as Sebastian went away for the weekend and I was in too much of a spook to watch anything remotely scary
Go to Adelaide for a mini holidayThis didn’t eventuate for me purely due to financial reasons. I have a lofty savings goal that I’m trying to reach by the end of the year, and I couldn’t justify the cost of flights for a three day holiday
Make a summer-y music playlist to listen to while driving
Cook something from the Donna Hay ‘seasons’ cookbook

As you can see I didn’t do too badly for my first month returning to monthly goal setting. Here are my goals for this month… Wish me luck!

– Participate in the #aroundtheworldathon
– Write my Christmas planning timeline
– Continue working on the garden to make it “summer BBQ” friendly
– Clean out the pantry/fridge/freezer
– Go to the Wanneroo Show
– Sort out my Spring/Summer wardrobe
