October Favourites

Oh look, another month down and another lot of favourites to share. The hardest product for me to pick is always skincare, mostly because I use the same things over and over again. Having said that, I worked something new into my routine this month, and I’m really liking it. So without further ado, here are my favourites from October –

Tresemme Salon Finish Hairspray – My all-time favourite hairspray is the O&M Queenie, but my ol’ faithful bottle has stopped working (the spray nozzle has become clogged with product, and it now either doesn’t spray at all OR sprays out half because I can’t make it stop), so I’ve moved on to something new. My hair is notoriously difficult to work with, curls tend to drop about an hour after I’ve styled my hair, but this hairspray works just as well as Queenie at holding a style for the entire day.

Nivea Moisturising Fluid SPF 15 – I tend to go through a bottle of facial sunscreen once a year, which works out well because you shouldn’t really keep sunscreen for much longer than that anyway. I wanted a cheaper alternative to the La Roche Posay sunscreen I’d been wearing for the past couple of years, and this one is working well for me. It doesn’t leave too much of a white cast on my skin (although to be honest, it’s hard to tell #palefaceproblems), and isn’t overly greasy.

Dove Go Fresh Deodorant in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena – I never thought I’d be the kind of person to ration my use of a deodorant, but here we are. I placed an order with Catch of the Day recently (I buy a lot of household cleaning items in bulk from there once a year), and picked up a couple of bottles of this deodorant because I couldn’t remember seeing this scent anywhere. Guys, this smells amazing. I love it even more than the nectarine/ginger scent (which also seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth), which has been my favourite deodorant for a year or so now. If anyone sees this scent available for purchase anywhere in Australia, please let me know!

MAC Eyeshadow in ‘all that glitters’ – Remember this bad boy? This is an ooooold favourite of mine that I dug back out of my collection when I was hunting for a bronze-gold eyeshadow similar to the one Laurel wears on ‘How To Get Away With Murder’. This isn’t even close to what she wears, but I’m loving it all the same.

Product Review: Clear Intense Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner

I’ve been branching out a bit lately in what I use to clean my hair, and I’m liking it. I find that my hair performs best when I mix things up a little bit, so I’ve been using one brand for half of the week, and another for the second half. My ‘second half of the week’ hair routine revolves around this magical little duo from Clear. I have fine hair but a lot of it, and it’s been more prone to dryness than oiliness lately (which I assume is due in part to us slowly making our way out of winter – or perhaps it’s yet another sign that I’m getting old). This duo is the perfect combination for my type of hair. It cleans and moisturises my hair without weighing it down or making everything feel a bit too heavy, which some ‘hydrating’ products have been known to do. The scent is light and fresh and leaves the hair with that lovely ‘clean’ smell that I adore. The Clear Intense Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner retail for $9.50 and are currently half price and available for purchase from Priceline (note: this product was sent for consideration for review).

September Favourites

It’s been a long time since I featured a monthly favourites post on The Belle Lumiere, but there have been so many products I’ve been loving lately that I thought it was the perfect time to bring ‘favourites’ back (cue a Justin Timberlake song in everyone’s head… YOU’RE WELCOME). And now, without further ado, here are my favourite beauty products from the month of September –

Clear Intense Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner – I first heard of ‘Clear’ products back when Miranda Kerr was announced as the face (hair?) of the brand, but hadn’t gotten around to trying anything from their range until quite recently. This has become one of my all-time favourite shampoo and conditioner duos, they work perfectly on my fine (dry) hair.

Chanel ‘Chance’ Perfume – I received this as a gift in late September, started wearing it immediately and have worn it everyday since. This is such a lovely scent, fresh and light and perfectly summery – I’ve had a few compliments already while I’ve been wearing it. I’m so glad I own this perfume again, because it’s one of my all-time favourites.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in ‘Tipsy’ – You’re all probably sick of hearing me rave about this blush by now, but it really is quite wonderful. I wrote up a full review of the blush last week, which you can check out here if you’re interested. Basically this is the blush you want if you’re in need of something to ‘brighten’ your face. Even my doctor made a comment about my face looking much fresher when I went to see her recently. I owe it all to this blush.

Burts Bees Radiance Eye Cream – I recently ran out of the Avene eye cream that I was using (after picking it up on a whim at Priceline), and this lovely replacement arrived on my doorstep right before I was set to go and purchase something new. Great timing. I only have a couple of requirements when it comes to eye cream – light to medium weight, moisturising without being too heavy, and easy to use packaging. This ticks all of those boxes and more.

Product Review: Dove Pure Care Dry Oil

It’s been quite a while since something has come along that is good enough to be welcomed into my daily hair-care routine. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil has easily been my favourite product over the last few months, and I now use it in place of my all time favourite Kerastase Nectar Thermique (you guys know how much I L-O-V-E nectar thermique, so that should be an indication of how much I like this oil). It’s a medium-weight oil, so I tend to use one pump and distribute it evenly through the ends of my hair before blow drying. It does an amazing job at making my hair soft and shiny, helps reduce the frizz factor (even during the seemingly endless period of rainy days we’re experiencing lately), and smells divine (soft and sweet and slightly powdery). The scent doesn’t transfer to the hair once it’s dry so if you’re not a fan of fragranced products that linger, you’re in the clear. The price is reasonable in my opinion, as this will be a long-lasting product and will end up being great value for money if you use it as sparingly as I do. The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil retails for $19.99 AUD and is available for purchase from Priceline, Coles, Woolworths, and selected pharmacies throughout Australia (note: this product was provided for consideration for review).

Autumn/Winter Hair Care Essentials

evo normal persons Shampoo & Conditioner – I’ve loved every single product I’ve tried from the evo hair care range, and the ‘normal persons’ shampoo and conditioner duo is no exception. It also happens to be a new favourite of mine, and I’ve been washing my hair with it every week for a couple of months now. These products are aimed at people with normal to oily hair (bingo), are nice and lightweight, and feel like they’re gently clarifying my hair with every wash.

LUSH Big Shampoo – I tend to make more of an effort to style my hair in the cooler months of the year (mostly because it’s not as much of a living hell to use heat styling tools on my hair as it is in summer), which means I use more products. I use LUSH’s Big Shampoo once a week to help strip all the excess product from my roots. I’ve repurchased ‘Big’ three or four times now, and it’s firmly cemented it’s place as my all-time favourite clarifying shampoo.

Unico Protein Treatment – I let it go far too long between hair cuts recently, and my hair was in dire need of some hard-core conditioning. I use this once a week as a deep conditioning treatment, and also on the ends of my hair every couple of days to help keep my split ends in check. I really like this treatment because it gives a heavy-duty moisture boost without weighing down my hair.

Tresemme Heat Protectant Spray – Lets face it people. Nobody likes getting out of bed in the morning. Let alone when it’s 2 degrees and pitch black outside. The fastest way for me to ‘style’ my hair is to straighten it, which I’ve been doing a lot lately. I use this bad boy before blow drying my hair on days that I know I’m going to be straightening it afterwards.

Kerastase Nectar Thermique – This is one of my all-time favourite hair products, a ‘holy grail’ if you will. I use this every day before blow drying my hair (except for times like right now, where I’m running out and I’m too scared to finish up the tube without having a back up in my cupboard). This does such a great job of smoothing down the frizziness of my hair. I couldn’t live without it.
