Jurlique Wish List & Reader Discount

Winter is slowly approaching, (I do wish it would hurry up and arrive already, I’m sweltering!) and I’m starting to think about what products I want to be using in the colder months ahead. I will need help brightening my skin, keeping my body moisturised (I am thinking body oils and dry body brushing will help combat winter dryness) and something to help with skin sensitivity. Here are a few products from the Jurlique range that I am lusting after this winter:

Herbal Recovery Gel

A potent botanical concentrate, infused with a rich blend of herbs and precious plant oils to restore, firm, hydrate and revitalise the skin. Helps to minimise the visible signs of ageing with daily use.

Rose Body Oil

A moisturising body oil to nurture the skin and senses.

Nurturing Mask

A gentle purifying mask, rich in the living energy of groomwell and sichuan peppercorn to clarify, hydrate and soothe. Leaves delicate skin feeling soft, pure and revitalised. Ideal for rebalancing sensitivity.

You may or may not remember that I recently posted a review for the Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator. If you are interested in trying this product out, now is the time! Jurlique have been kind enough to extend a discount code for the readers of The Belle Lumiere. Using the code SUPERFRUIT15 at the checkout will give you 15% off of the Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator. This code expires on the 1 June 2010 and is valid for 1 use only. Happy shopping!

Skincare & Makeup Q&A

I have seen this Q&A popping up on a few blogs that I’ve been reading and I figured what better way to make this Friday afternoon go a little faster than by filling it out myself? So here we go, apologies if it’s a little bit long! Please feel free to take these questions and complete the survey in the comments or on your own blog! I would love to read what you guys say, so be sure to link me to it when you’re done!

SKINCARE

How many times do you wash your face daily?

I went through a stage where I was only washing my face at night, but I’ve somehow gotten back into the routine of cleansing both morning and night. I’m not really sure how or why I’ve switched back to doing it twice a day, but I can’t really tell if it makes any difference to my skin.

What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)

I have oily combination skin. I hate the fact that my skin gets so shiny during the day, but apparently those with oily skin have younger looking skin as they age? I’ll take whatever positives I can get!

What is your current facial wash?

I wash with a Cetaphil Cleansing Bar in the morning, and Dermalogica Precleanse/Special Cleansing Gel at night.

Do you exfoliate?

Yes, twice a week. If I feel like my skin needs a bit of an extra boost I’ll use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant a couple of extra times a week. Though I am on a serious conservation project with that until I near the end of Project 10 Pan.

What brand do you use?

At the moment I either use Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub, Skin MD Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel Wipes or Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator.

What moisturizer do you use?

I’ve just used up a tube of Dermalogica Active Moist and have moved on to Ultraceuticals Ultra Moisturiser Cream. I really love this moisturiser for winter, it’s so thick and it smells like vanilla. (with no artificial scent added, all natural vanilla!)

Do you have freckles?

I do have a few freckles on my cheekbones towards the side of my face. I don’t have as many as I used to as a child, I figure they have faded because I avoid sun exposure as much as I can?

Do you use eye cream?

Yes, at the moment my favourite is the This Works Tired Eye Serum. It’s nice and light but feels really good on my eyes first thing in the morning.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?

I suffer from hormonal breakouts along my jaw line that drive me craaaazy. Thankfully my skin is a lot better than it was during my teenage years. (hello tomato face)

Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?

No, I don’t think I would ever use anything that harsh on my skin.

MAKE-UP

What foundation do you use?

Givenchy Skin Tonic Stretch Cream foundation in the shade “lift dragee”.

How about concealer?

Benefit Erase Paste – I love the fact that this is nice and creamy, blends well and doesn’t cake and go all crusty!

Do you know your undertone color?

Tomato red? Ha. Seriously though, I do have pink undertones. Oh for beautiful olive toned skin!

What do you think of fake eyelashes?

I think they’re amazing if applied properly! I am a total klutz with fine motor skills. My best friend manages to apply them perfectly to the outer corners of her eyelids and they look incredible on her. I am destined to have stumpy little lashes for eternity.

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?

I figured it was something like that. I usually only ever have 1 or 2 in rotation so they get used up before they can get too far past their use-by date.

What brand of mascara do you use?

My favourites are Lancome, YSL & Givenchy.

Sephora or MAC?

I am a recent convert to the land of MAC, though my experience with Sephora (albeit only when travelling) was always positive. MAC wins this round because Sephora is not available in Australia.

Do you have a MAC Pro-card?

No, and nor would I classify myself as a pro!

What makeup tools do you use in make up application?

For foundation and creme blush I use Beauty Blender. I cannot rave enough about how great this is for even foundation application. I also have a sporadic collection of makeup brushes (that I am planning to streamline soon) but my favourite brushes are by Chanel and Napoleon Perdis.

Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?

I use Benefit Stay Don’t Stray primer on my eyelids.

For the face?

I don’t use a primer for my face because I found it pointless & it never seemed to aid with foundation application, more like it made things worse and awkward. I also hate the feeling of having too much product stacked up on my skin.

What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?

MAC Naked Lunch or Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow in Champagne.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

I use a pencil eyeliner because of my shaky fine motor skills. I could ask my 2 year old daughter to apply liquid eyeliner and it would look more professional than if I did it myself.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?

Never. Mascara on the other hand….

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?

I use Napoleon Perdis Loose Eye Dust eyeshadow a lot when I’m going out at night, but it’s a messy process that stresses me out a bit. I will say this though, they last a LONG time. Just don’t sneeze near them because they spread far and wide really easily.

Do you use mineral makeup?

I do use Bare Minerals foundation when I get the urge. I like the coverage that it offers, but right now I’m loving my liquid foundation too much.

What is your favorite lipstick?

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Seductive Rose or Christian Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in Stage Red.

How about lipgloss?

NARS Lipgloss in Chihuahua, MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner in Petting Pink or Chanel Aqualumiere Gloss in Candy Glow.

What is your favorite blush to use?

For creme/liquid blush I love Becca Lip & Cheek Creme in Rosebud, MAC Blushcreme in Ladyblush or By Terry Rose de Rose Liquid Blush in Fresh Rose. For powder I am loving Estee Lauder blush in Peach Nuance or Chanel Irreelle Blush in Tea Rose.

Do you buy your makeup on ebay?

No, I believe that if something is too good to be true (ie: super cheap cosmetics) then it normally is. Also I prefer to buy things shiny and new because I’m OCD like that.

Do you like drugstore makeup?

I don’t dislike it, but I don’t buy a lot of my products from there.

Do you go to CCO’s? (cosmetic company outlets)

I am not aware of any of these existing in Western Australia. If I did I would probably check it out. (and possibly go bankrupt)

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?

Yes, my best friend and I are planning on taking some courses this year.

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

Only if it’s something fidgety like putting on false eyelashes or applying liquid eyeliner. Otherwise I don’t think I’m too clumsy.

Name a makeup crime that you hate?

People who are mis-matched with foundation colour and look like they’re walking around with an orange mask on.

Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?

For myself I prefer neutral makeup looks, but I can definitely appreciate colourful shades on other people.

Which celebrity always has great make up?

Liv Tyler. She embraces her fair skin and is never OTT with her makeup choices. I look to her a lot for makeup inspiration!

If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?

Lip balm. I go crazy if I have dry lips! (my current favourite is Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment)

Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?

I usually go without makeup on the weekends unless I’m heading out somewhere special. If not I’ll either go completely makeup-free or just use a bit of tinted moisturiser and some mascara / lip gloss.

Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?

I think so, I think it’s a different way of looking good.

In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?

For me personally it would have to be Givenchy. I love their foundation, blush, mascara, eyeliner and lip products. They tick all the boxes!

What do you think of makeup?

I think it’s a lot of fun, but nothing that I ever take too seriously. I know a lot of people think that makeup is a waste of time, and for them that is fine. For me I see it as adding the finishing touches to a picture. A few little additions here and there can perfect the look! Oh, I also think I spend way too much money on makeup and need to curb that habit.

Newsflash: Jurlique

This is just a little update to let you know some exciting things going on with Jurlique at the moment. The first is the release of their new Jasmine Hand Cream – which will be available for purchase on the 29th of March 2010. Jasmine is one of my all time favourite scents, and you know that Jurlique is one of my favourite skincare brands so when I heard about this I quickly added it to my shopping wish list!

Jurlique is delighted to introduce a new scent to complement the much-loved Rose, Lavender and Citrus hand creams. NEW Jasmine Hand Cream is a rich, protective hand cream, infused with the living energy of Jurlique’s plants & flowers, to deeply moisture and restore smoothness to hands while imparting the beautiful aroma of Australian Jasmine.

Jasmine Hand Cream provides long-lasting moisturisation and hydration with a special blend of natural ingredients including Safflower & Macadamia Oils, Honey, Glycerin & Aloe Vera. Calendula, Viola and Chamomile Extracts help to soothe and comfort skin whilst Carrot Root Extract and Marshmallow help to hydrate and soften skin, leaving skin feeling silky and supple.

The delicate star shaped jasmine, long the subject of rituals in ancient cultures, is renowned for its nightly blooming ritual and distinctive scent. In traditional aromatherapy Jasmine is known to have therapeutic properties and its calming and soothing effects make it an ideal aroma for body and bath products. One litre of “Jasmine absolute” is made from approximately eight million tiny white flowers, equating to one ton of Jasmine flowers to produce one litre of this precious essential oil. The Jasmine plant flowers all day but the intensity of the odour is most pronounced in the very late night / early morning hours, when the pollinators are out harvesting their nectar, which is why the flowers are best hand-picked at dawn.

The formulation contains no Parabens, PEGs, artificial colors, artificial fragrances or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

Sound good, right? The Jurlique Jasmine Hand Cream will retail for $27 AUD for 40ml and $55 AUD for 125ml. It will be available for Australian purchase from Jurlique stores, leading department stores, selected pharmacies and for International purchase via the Jurlique website.

Another bit of Jurlique news is regarding the initiative that they’re starting on the 22nd of March 2010 in Jurlique stores throughout Australia. It’s called “Give & Gift” and is in celebration of Earth Month in April this year. Customers are invited to return Jurlique packaging such as bottles or tubes in exchange for a 10% discount off replacement purchases. Give & Gift will be a permanent addition to the service in every Jurlique store and aims to raise awareness for responsible recycling. Very exciting!

Product Review: Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist

My love affair with Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist goes all the way back to the very first time I stepped foot into a Jurlique store. It was the very first product from the Jurlique range that I tried, and I fell in love with it after one sniff! (I realise that it’s not perfume, but it could be it smells that good…) “A hydrating mist, rich in the living energy of rose and marshmallow to restore, tone and hydrate. Leaves the skin balanced and refreshed. Ideal for maintaining balance.” I was sent a bottle of this lovely product to review, so here we go…

What is great about this product…

First of all, the scent. It’s beautiful. The gentle and refreshing rose scent takes me back to happy memories of spending time with my great grandmother in her rose garden. Every time I use this product I feel happy. (This might just be because of my own scent-induced memories, but it’s still a pleasant experience.) The mist is light and refreshing and leaves skin soft and supple. I use it before moisturiser and also as a refreshing spritzer throughout the day. (try popping it in the fridge on a hot day) I took a bottle with me when travelling overseas, and it was a lifesaver during and after a long flight! The packaging is streamlined and simple, as I’ve come to expect from Australian company Jurlique.

What is not so great about this product…

At $23 AUD for 30ml it is quite pricey for a Rosewater mist. Having said that, the quality continues to bring me back to this product time and time again.

The Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist is available for Australian purchase from leading department stores and pharmacies, and online internationally from the Jurlique website.

Product Review: Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator

Jurlique is an all Australian skincare brand with a fresh and natural product range, so you can probably understand why it is one of my favourites. I was given the opportunity to trial and review Jurlique’s new Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator and was really excited to see what all the fuss was about!

What is great about this product…

The Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator contains lots of natural goodies that will benefit your skin. Ingredients such as Quandong Extract, Desert Lime, Willow Bark Extract, Green Tea Leaf and Prickly Pear Stem are chock full of vitamins and nutrients that will help keep your complexion looking smooth and revitalised. Alongside natural acids, the Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator enlists the power of the Australian Acacia Wattle to aid in the exfoliation process. I have quiet sensitive skin, but experienced no stinging or redness after using the the Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator. (HUZZAH!) After using the product over a couple of weeks my complexion is clear and glowing. I think I am starting to prefer enzyme exfoliators to “manual” exfoliators, they seem to work a lot better for me. The packaging is as fresh and pretty as the rest of the Jurlique range, and the price point is not too unreasonable with the 50ml bottle retailing for $50 AUD. (please keep in mind you only need a small amount of the product at a time)

What is not so great about this product…

If you’re one with a sensitive nose, the strong citrus smell might be a put off. (I quite like it though, and I am fussy about scented products) It also stings like hell when you get it in your eye, but that is just common sense – right? Right.

The Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator is available for purchase for Australian customers from Department Stores and leading pharmacies. Australia and International customers can purchase the Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator from the Jurlique website.
