Current Skin Care Routine

I think I’ve mentioned it a few times already, but I’m really amazed at how my skin has changed over the last year or so. I’m putting it down to the turning of time (and me turning 30), but as my skin is changing so are my skin care needs. I find that I’m starting to focus more on hydration rather than trying to keep oil at bay. And of course fine lines are becoming more of an issue now than they’ve ever been. I’m still sticking to the ‘less is more’ approach to skin care, and am sticking with a few hard working basics. Here are the products currently making the rounds in my skin care routine –

Nivea Fragrance Free Facial Cleansing Wipes – These are a staple in my beauty cupboard, and I’m sure they pop up at least once a week here on the blog. I use these every night to remove my makeup before cleansing my face (or on nights where I’m just too lazy to bother with a proper cleansing routine).

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Cleanser – This has been my go-to cleanser for a couple of years now. I love how gentle it is, which works really well with my sensitive skin. I use this every night (or morning, depending on how lazy I was the night before) to properly cleanse my face after makeup removal.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – I decided to give my Clarisonic a break for a bit, and instead am using this microfoliant twice a week to keep my skin looking fresh. I find that twice a week is what my skin likes best at the moment, I used to use this every single day. It’s a wonderful product, and I highly recommend you add it to your skin care routine.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Toner – I’ve been using this toner in conjunction with the Hydralight cleanser for a couple of years, and I feel like they work so well together. I’ve found a lot of toners in the past have left my skin feeling quite ‘tight’ after I use them, but this feels very soothing on the skin. I use this daily after cleansing.

Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Mattifying Fluid – For the longest time I went without SPF in my daily routine (except for what was included in my foundation), but NO MORE. This is my daily moisturiser of choice at the moment, and the ‘youth-extending’ promise gives me hope for the future.

Ainhoa Aquasense Hydra-Vital Cream – This is such a divine moisturiser. It’s a gel cream formula, glides onto the skin, smells fresh (like a combination between roses and cucumber), and leaves my skin feeling heavenly. I’ve been slathering this onto my face every night before bed. It’s like a little nighttime treat every day.

I’d love to know what your favourite skin care product is at the moment? Let me know in the comments below!

Current Skin Care Routine

I remember asking my mum a little while ago what her skin care routine entailed. When she told me that it was basically NOTHING, I was shocked because I couldn’t imagine doing so little to help my skin. But HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT. My new skin care routine is so low key that it’s practically nothing. And my skin is loving it. Is this terrible? Probably. But hey, if my skin isn’t complaining, I’m not going to stop what I’m doing. Not a lot has changed since my last skin care routine post, I’m still really liking the Paula’s Choice product range, and I recently switched back to an old (non Paula’s) product to try and finish it up and it was a horrible experience. It really helped me realise how much I love Paula’s range and how gentle all of her products feel on my skin.

My current regime includes the following products:

Clarisonic Face Brush (w/ sensitive brush head) – It took me a while to figure out the best way to make the Clarisonic work for my skin. I now use it twice a week with the Paula’s Choice Hydralight Cleanser. If I use it any more than twice a week my skin tends to flare up a little bit. You can read my full review of this product here.

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil – I received this deluxe sample as a gift with purchase from Sephora, and have been using it as a neck treatment a few nights a week. It feels really nice on my skin and is scent-free (which I prefer when it comes to skin care), so I’m really enjoying using it at the moment.

Origins GinZing Eye Cream – I normally grow tired of eye creams after using them for a couple of weeks, but I’m still really liking this one from Origins. I use this morning and night as an under-eye treatment. You can read my full review of this product here.

Nivea Fragrance Free Face Wipes – I use these every night after I hop out of the shower, to remove any remaining traces of makeup and to cleanse my skin. These particular wipes have a drier formula than most, which I really like because I feel like they work better on my skin than the ones that leave some residue after use. You can read my full review of this product here.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight One-Step Cleanser – I use this cleanser every morning while I’m in the shower, and it’s so lovely and gentle on my skin. I love the way that my face feels after using this, it’s one of those great products that cleans the skin well but doesn’t leave it feeling stripped or irritated in any way. This is my new holy grail face cleanser.

Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner – Well, I think it’s safe to say my ol’ crater pores are not going anywhere any time soon, but a girl can dream. I started using this toner every day once my Hydralight bottle had run out, and I l-o-v-e it. It’s fragrance-free, and feels very gentle on my skin. Perfecto.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel & 2% BHA Liquid – Alright, I gotta get real for a second. I have very little idea as to what AHAs & BHAs do for my skin. Regardless, I forge ahead and use both of these products occasionally on my face because I just love dabbling with putting various acids on my face. I alternate between these two products, depending on what I feel like my skin needs at the time.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion – Moving past the death-smell of this moisturiser, it’s one of the best I’ve ever used. It’s a lightweight lotion but feels very moisturising on my skin, and it provides just enough hydration to keep my oily-prone skin fresh without overloading it. This is my second tube of the lotion so far, and I can definitely see myself buying more in the future.

Current Skin Care Routine

I’m really happy with my skin care routine at the moment, so I thought it would be a good time to share the details of the products I’m currently using.

Nivea Fragrance Free Cleansing Wipes: I use one of these wipes every night to remove my makeup before properly cleaning my face. I was using Cetaphil for this purpose for the longest time, but I’ve switched back to these for now.

Clarisonic Mia: I was sent this by the lovely folk at Ry to try out and I am absolutely in l-o-v-e with this little contraption. I’ll be posting a full review of it soon so stay tuned.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight One Step Face Cleanser: I have to give a massive shout out to Beatideas for putting me on to the Paula’s Choice range of products, because this stuff has done wonders for my skin already. I love this cleanser, it’s very gentle on my skin, leaves me with no redness, and somehow managed to help keep all hormonal spots at bay this month. Success.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner: I’m never really sure what toners do (I mean, I think know what they’re technically supposed to do for the skin) so I usually judge them on how they leave my skin feeling, and this one leaves my face feeling soft and refreshed and hydrated.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisture Infusing Lotion: This is the perfect daytime moisturiser for me, it’s lightweight and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or oily. The only thing I don’t like about it is the smell, which is like a mix between cucumber and a dead body.

Kosmea Organic Rose Hip Oil: Ah, my old faithful. This remains one of my all-time favourite skin care products. I use it 2-3 times a week as a nighttime serum underneath whichever moisturiser I’m using at the time. I know this isn’t for everyone but it always leaves my skin soft and glowy the next day and I love it.

Origins Ginzing Eye Cream: I love this eye cream. It’s nice and thick but sinks into my skin really quickly so I can use it both at night and in the mornings without having to worry about it sitting on my skin for too long. I’m not a huge fan of the open pot packaging. I feel like I might be becoming a bit of a Howard Hughes when it comes to bacteria and germs in general.

Honorable mentions: I’ve been incorporating a few other products into my routine, but am not 100% sure of them yet which is why I haven’t mentioned them in detail. They are: Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner, Paula’s Choice Moisture Boose Hydrating Treatment Cream and Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid.
