October Wellness Chat

Whenever I search for a picture to use to accompany these kinds of posts, I’m always drawn to shots of Pepsi. Do you think it’s because her life is essentially 24/7 relaxation? Probably. Just look at how relaxed and mentally sound she looks. If only, eh? Here’s how I went with my wellness goals for September, and some I’m hoping to achieve this month –

– Continue with daily affirmations(I’m crossing this off because I did achieve this for the most part of the month, although I’ve found myself slipping a bit since being on holidays. I need to work out a way to fit it into my new daily routine!)
– Read at night (most nights, when possible) before bed
– Take 3 months off work (you know I had to put this in here)(Aww yeh.)
– Deal with the things that cause me niggling negative emotions(I’ve had some larger life issues step in and make these little things seem like nothing at all, so I guess that’s the universe crossing this one off the list for me?)
– Go for a walk along the coast

– Read at night (most nights, when possible) before bed
– Go for a walk along the coast
– Spend some time colouring in every day
– Make time for “pampering” at least once a week (my nails currently look like the bitten-down stumps of a wizened gnome)
– Study and try to keep my mind active while on holidays

September Wellness Chat

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted one of these wellness chats, and honestly it’s long overdue. I’ve noticed a huge difference in how I feel when I don’t focus on ‘bettering’ my mental wellness. I’ve started doing my daily affirmations again, and I feel better and more positive already. It’s so easy to get weighed down by life, I’m excited to start paying more attention to things that make me feel better. My girlfriends and I (hi Sinead, if you’re reading this blog post) were talking about mental health recently, and how we’re all striving to be happy, rather than embracing our capacity to feel a whole range of emotions. Why must happy win? I’m making an effort to embrace all of my emotions, and remind myself that “happy” isn’t always best. Here are my five wellness goals for the month:

– Continue with daily affirmations
– Read at night (most nights, when possible) before bed
– Take 3 months off work (you know I had to put this in here)
– Deal with the things that cause me niggling negative emotions
– Go for a walk along the coast

June Wellness Chat

I’m noticing more and more that when I let too much time pass between the moments I spend relaxing and centering my mind, I start to feel really run down and stressed. It’s good to know that mindfullness practices work, and I’m 100% sure spending time on personal wellness will pay off in the long run. Now, if only there were more hours in the day! Here’s how I went with my wellness goals for May

– Spend time on Tuesday and Thursday evenings doing things for me
– Meditate once a week

– Spend some time on Sunday evenings in ‘wind down’ mode
– Practice daily affirmations
– Work on a vision board

Not too bad. I have a week booked off of work next month that I am REALLY looking forward to. I feel really mentally and physically ready for a holiday, even though we’re not planning on going away anywhere (except maybe somewhere down south for Sebastian’s birthday). In the meantime, I’ll be trying to work more mindfullness into my daily routine. Here are my goals for June –

– Make more of an effort to read a bit of my book every night before going to sleep
– Spend more time on “pampering” in my nighttime routine
– Work on a vision board
– Make exercise a priority (for mental wellness)
– Write a stress management plan for the things that I know can be sources of anxiety for me

What are your wellness goals for the month?

May Wellness Chat

Last month I brought up the fact that I talk about a lot off different kinds of goals in life, but rarely about mental wellness and the sort of things I want to achieve to help me with that balance. I set some wellness goals for the month, so lets see how I did:

– Buy an adult colouring book (and nice pencils)
– Go screen-free after 9:30PM on week days
– Read a little bit of my book every night before bed on week days
– Make an effort to keep up contact with friends
– Spend more time “with nature” and in the garden

My obsession with colouring is going strong, as evidenced by the image that the top of this post. I struggled with going screen free after 9:30pm, I might need to push that back to 10pm moving forward. I feel like I lose track of time in the evenings, and although we go to bed relatively early, I’ll often look at my phone and it will be well after 9:30pm. Oops. I’ve fallen off the wagon with my reading, and I really need to get back on track. I need to make more of an effort to read and unwind before falling asleep, but I find as soon as I crawl into bed during the week all I want to do is sleep! Keeping in contact with friends has been much easier since my girlfriends and I started a group WhatsApp group chat. We now converse daily (in some way), which is wonderful. I haven’t spent much time outside lately, mostly due to time restrictions. Soon! Here are my goals for the upcoming month:

– Spend time on Tuesday and Thursday evenings doing things for me
– Meditate once a week
– Spend some time on Sunday evenings in ‘wind down’ mode
– Practice daily affirmations
– Work on a vision board

What are your wellness goals for the month?

April Wellness Chat

I spend a lot of time talking about life, fitness, and finance goals, but very little time talking about the things I want to achieve to help bring me some mental balance. Which is strange, because I find mental health and being able to find a bit of balance to keep you sane is so important in this day and age. I’ve decided to start setting goals for each month, so I have something to look back on and see what I’ve achieved for the year. Here are my first monthly wellness goals –

– Buy an adult colouring book (and nice pencils)
– Go screen-free after 9:30PM on week days
– Read a little bit of my book every night before bed on week days
– Make an effort to keep up contact with friends
– Spend more time “with nature” and in the garden

Those are the things I am going to focus on this month, and I’d love to hear what you do every day to help give you a bit of balance in your life.
