May Fitness Chat

Time for some May Fitness chat, better known in my mind as the working title ‘better late than never?!‘. As it turns out, getting motivation back after an overseas trip is quite difficult. I didn’t do too badly while we were away (I made an effort to swim some laps during our daily pool time, and walked quite a bit while exploring the area we were staying in), but since returning home I’ve done basically nothing. It’s time to get back into setting goals and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. My comfort zone, if you’re wondering, is on the couch watching 5 episodes of LOST a night before crawling into bed.

April Goals
Get back on track (physically and mentally) – I was progressing well before my trip, and mentally I feel ready to get back into the swing of things. I feel a lot more motivated now than I did earlier in the year, so I’m counting that as a success. Plan lunches – I’m not doing too badly in this regard, I rarely buy my lunch now and try to take leftovers (of our healthy dinners), or a salad for lunch. Increase weekly workouts to 4 per week – Nope. Keep a fitness diary – While I haven’t yet figured out how I’m going to use my Lorna Jane diary for this, I have been tracking all of my workouts and progress and I’m still using gold stars in my day planner to help keep track of my gym days.

Monthly Goals
Because I’m focusing on getting back into a routine, my monthly goals are not going to be too intense. Basically, I just want to reset myself mentally and get back into the swing of things now that I’ve returned from my holiday. I want to start tracking my food, so I can see what’s going on with my nutrition and where I can start doing a bit better with my eating (not eating 4 strawberries and cream Lindt balls a night could be a start). I want to keep track of my progress for each workout that I complete, and have a structure to my general exercise ‘plan’. It’s nearly June already (wtf guys), so I’m hoping to bump things up a bit next month.

Health & Fitness Related Goodies
* Kimberley mentioned Run Hundred on twitter a little while ago, and I think it’s such a great idea for a website and will be really useful the next time I’m looking to add some new music to my workout playlist. ** She also mentioned really liking the Yoga Studio App, so I’m downloading it to try it out this weekend. *** My top song to work out to at the moment is ‘Bounce‘ by Iggy Azalea.

What I Bought…

I’ve had my eye on this pink striped beauty for quite a while now, and with ASOS’s winter sale popping up during the week, I just couldn’t resist. Also, I apparently can’t order just one thing from ASOS (especially during a sale), so I picked up this long-sleeved navy top as well. I picked up another one of the GAP luxelight sweaters in black because I get so much wear out of the two that I have, and I don’t like over-wearing GAP sweaters because they don’t wash that well. I bought the marled stripe sweater after seeing Michele1218 wearing and talking about it. I’m such a lemming. The scarf was an impulse purchase because I’d seen it on the site before and liked it and apparently this time around I needed to have it. I don’t know why I keep buying GAP work pants, because the quality isn’t great. But here we are. I opted for the straight leg pants instead of the skinny style, because they’re bound to be more flattering (one can hope).

Thoughts of the week…

01) I’ve been thinking about my goals for next month, and at the top of the list is to finish cleaning out my makeup collection. I have so many old products that need to be thrown out, and I also need a little bit of extra room for some new goodies that are coming my way.

02) I really need to spend some time catching up on my audio books. I have two books sitting in my queue waiting to be listened to, and some Audible credit to be used. If anyone has any suggestions for good audio books, please let me know!

03) Speaking of books, I pre-ordered this one a little while ago, and I’m really excited for it arrive. The plot sounds amazing and right up my alley.

04) The Lindt Crème Brulee chocolate is pretty damn delicious.

05) I’m slowly introducing my boyfriend to the US version of the Office. It’s probable blasphemous to watch the US version before the UK version, but there you go. I still absolutely L-O-V-E John Krasinski as Jim Halpert. The flame lives on.

06) I’ve been wearing my new lipstick (the L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Spring Rosette) all week and I really love the wear of these. They don’t fade to leave a weird ring around the lips, they wear more like a stain. Definitely check these out next time you’re at Priceline.

07) Billy Eichner cracks me up.

08) Kimberley made me want this bag.

09) We saw Godzilla last night, and I really enjoyed it.

10) The Lonely Island released their film clip for ‘HUGS‘ last week. Two things about this: I love The Lonely Island, and HOW ON EARTH IS PHARRELL 40-SOMETHING HUMAN YEARS OLD?!

10 Essentials For A Tropical Holiday

If you missed my frequent mentioning of it (or the snapshots I posted), I went on a holiday to Bali earlier in the month. I went for a week with my boyfriend and my family, and it was an amazing little getaway. I know people have mixed feelings about traveling to Bali, but it was the second time I’ve been and I would definitely considering going back there in the future. Here are my top 10 items to take along –

01) A signature holiday scent. Every time I go on holiday (regardless of where I’m going), I pick a specific fragrance to take and wear for the duration of the trip. That way when I’m back home I get flooded with nice holiday memories whenever I wear that perfume. For this trip to Bali, my perfume of choice was Byredo’s Gypsy Water.

02) A bright lipstick. I try to stay makeup-free for the most part (the heat melts off anything I put on my face anyway), but if we head out somewhere nice for dinner or drinks at night I like to add a bright pop of colour to my lips. NARS Carthage is my favourite BRIGHT pink lipstick, and it has the added benefit of being a dry matte formula that doesn’t smudge/melt off of the lips.

03) Sunscreen! I can’t stress this enough. If you’ve ever traveled with me you’ve probably heard me reminding you to reapply your sunscreen at least five times a day. I have extremely fair skin that can burn within the space of 10 minutes, so I wear a LOT of sunscreen when I know I’ll be spending time outdoors. My favourite facial sunscreen is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Fluid Extreme SPF 50+, and my favourite body sunscreen is the Cancer Council Sports Sunscreen (which is also 50+).

04) Pantene 3 Minute Miracle. My hair gets really dry when I’m swimming every day and spending a lot of time in the sun, so I always pack one of the Pantene 3 Minute Miracle tubes to deep condition the ends of my hair daily.

05) Fluroscent nails. I only ever really wear super-bright nail shades when I’m on holiday, or in the dead of summer. My two favourite “tropical holiday” nail polish shades are Essie ‘Pink Parka’ and China Glaze ‘Flip Flop Fantasy’.

06 A crossbody hand bag. I carry this style of handbag with me where I travel, regardless of where I’m going. Being able to go handbag hands-free is so handy, especially when hauling luggage through the airport. I took my Marc by Marc Jacobs Downtown Lola bag with me this time around, and although it was a little too small for travel days, it was perfect for day-to-day wear, and when we headed out at night.

07) Black maxi dress. I nearly always travel wearing a maxi dress because I find them so comfortable to wear on the plane. My all-time favourite maxi is a grecian style one from GAP, but this time around I gave my new ASOS baby a spin.

08) A bathing suit. Although I prefer the styling of one-piece bathing suits, they are NOT practical at all when you’re spending a day at the pool. Because of that, I lean towards two piece ‘tankini’ style bathing suits like this one from J Crew.

09) A holiday-specific playlist. Similarly to the perfume, I put together a holiday playlist to listen to before and during the trip. I love doing this, because music always stirs up a lot of memories for me. My number one song for this trip was ‘Magic’ by Coldplay, which is getting a lot of airtime at the moment, and it makes me happy every time I hear it.

10) Something to read. I tend to opt for light, easier sort of reads on holiday because I find them easier to pick up and put down in between dips in the pool but my all time favourite tropical holiday read is The Beach by Alex Garland.

Autumn Makeup Haul (pt. 1)

I decided to work a few new makeup items into my collection because I’ve been going through what I own and turfing some old and expired products. I got rid of a LOT of old foundations when I moved into my new house, which means I’m down to basically nothing. Also, with no guarantee of Sephora shipping my orders to me, I need to start trying to find something comparable to Givenchy’s Photo Perfexion foundation. The search begins…

01. Covergirl 3 in 1 Foundation in Classic Ivory – I received a sample bottle of this a little while ago, and I remember the colour being a good match, and the texture being quite nice. It’s a struggle to find this shade in a lot of Pricelines though, I looked in three different stores before I managed to find a bottle to purchase.

02. Revlon Colorstay 24 Hour Foundation in Ivory – I’ve tried this foundation before, and I remember liking it. It has quite a thick formula, so I thought I’d give it a go now that the cold weather has well and truly kicked in.

03. L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara in Black – I bought this after hearing Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup mentioning it time and time again as one of her favourites. I’m a big fan of the Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, but I’m on the hunt for a second ‘drugstore brand’ mascara that I like.

04. + 05. L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipsticks in Bloody Mary & Spring Rosette – I swatched a couple of these lipsticks on my hand when I was in store, and they seemed exactly the kind that I like to wear. Fairly matte, but moisturising without being too glossy.

06. Natio Mineral Eyeshadow Trio in Bronzed – I saw the tester for this eyeshadow sitting on the shelf, and couldn’t resist picking it up. The colours are exactly what I like to wear, and I thought having all three of them together would make this a great little eye palette for traveling or tossing into my bag on the go.
