November Empties

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – November was apparently a month of finishing up favourite products, starting with this one. We always have a bottle of this in our shower because we both use it every day as an all-over body cleanser. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve started buying this in bulk sets from Costco because it’s such a staple in our house.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight One-Step Face Cleanser – Yet another staple in our house, this is my favourite and is now something Sebastian is using every day as well. If you’re in the market for a gentle cleanser that will work well with sensitive skin and keep your skin clear — look no further.

Dove Deodorant in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena Scent – I don’t always post my deodorant empties because it seems weirder than other empties, but I do like to share this one because it smells incredible. If you haven’t stopped to give this a sniff, do so next time you’re at the shops because once you’ve smelled this you probably won’t want to wear anything else.

Hourglass Brow Arch in Dark Brunette – I’m pretty lucky in the eyebrow department because my brows are thick and dark but they do need some help with shaping. This is my go-to brow product because it matches the shade of my brows perfectly and it fills in the gaps where I need it to. It’s also easy enough to remove if I’m a bit clumsy with my application, which is a win for me.

[sample] Kate Somerville Quench Oil Free Hydrating Face Serum – I went through a phase a few years ago where I purchased a whole bunch of Kate Somerville products, purely because Lauren Conrad used them. I was pretty happy with the products at the time, but they weren’t good enough to knock Paula’s Choice off the top of my list. This is the first sample I’ve tried in a while that I would seriously consider buying a full-sized version of. This did a good job of hydrating my skin, and the results were almost immediately noticeable. I’m not in a position to be purchasing any expensive serums at the moment, but when I am this will be something I will be looking at getting.

[sample] Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner – This was a ‘neither here nor there’ sort of product for me. It did the job of cleaning my hair well enough but it wasn’t something I would rush out to purchase.

October Empties

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – This is a product that I almost always have in my skin care rotation. It is tried and true, and I feel like if I go without it for too long my skin breathes a sigh of relief when I start using it again. If you’re in the market for a gentle exfoliant that works well with sensitive skin, I really can’t recommend this enough.

Ecoya Mini Diffuser in Guava & Lychee Sorbet – I had this diffuser in our second bathroom and it was a really light and refreshing scent, well suited to such an open space. As much as I like these Ecoya diffusers I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing them in the future purely because of how much cat hair the diffusing sticks seem to attract. I have one left in our bedroom, and then I think that will be it for me.

Evo Mane Attention Protein Treatment – I have left it far too long between haircuts, and instead of just going and getting a haircut I apparently have decided to try and mask the problem by using an array of lifesaving hair products. This is a hair mask I always come back to because it does such a great job of injecting some life into my sad looking hair.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – I picked this up at Mecca earlier in the year when my best friend was visiting from Perth. I figured I would give it a go, but I didn’t have high expectations because as everybody knows Lancome Hypnose is the greatest mascara of all time and couldn’t be toppled from my holy grail list. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised and this is something I will be repurchasing in the future. It did a great job of thickening and lengthening my lashes, and didn’t smudge throughout the day.

Tresemme Salon Finish Freeze Hold Hairspray – After I finished up my last bottle of O&M Queenie I told myself that I had to use up all of the other hairsprays I had in my collection before I was allowed to repurchase it. This was the first bottle I finished, and it did a decent job of keeping a curl in my fine straight hair. I wasn’t able to test how it held up during a full work day because I don’t bother curling my hair when I’m working from home, which I have been doing since March.

September Empties

Glasshouse Candle in Kyoto – This is Sebastian’s favourite candle scent, so I always make sure he has one in his office to burn when he feels the need. This candle has one of the strongest fragrances of any Glasshouse candle I have tried, and the smell somehow manages to make its way halfway down the house.

Garnier Hydra Bomb Tissue Mask – I love these masks, they’re such good value for money because they seem to show immediate results on the skin. If you’re looking for a quick moisture boost I would highly recommend picking one of these up.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Wipes – I know that face wipes are supposed to be terrible for your skin, but sometimes they’re the most convenient option. True to the Cetaphil products I’ve used in the past, these do a nice job of cleansing while being gentle on my sensitive skin.

Lush Honey I Washed The Kids Shower Gel – This is one of my favourite scents in a body product, ever. It literally smells like you are lathering yourself in honey. This is the second bottle I’ve used up of this shower gel, and it’s one I will continue to pick up anytime I have a chance to pop into a Lush store.

L’Occitane Almond ‘Delicious Hands’ Hand Cream – This is the ultimate for me. The texture, the fragrance, the way it leaves my skin feeling – all of these things come together to make the perfect hand cream. I’m always so disappointed when I run out of this because I can never justify repurchasing it when I have a pile of other hand creams sitting in my bathroom cupboard waiting to be used. Having said that, I usually ask for this as a gift and I do have a birthday coming up…

August Empties

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion – I’ve been through quite a lot of these hydralight lotions, and it’s safe to say they are my favourite from the Paula’s Choice range of day moisturisers. This is a great product to use year-round if you have normal skin. It does a great job of hydrating while being nice and lightweight, and I find that it sinks into the skin really easily. I’m still not a huge fan of the scent (a bit like what I imagine a sea cucumber would smell like), but at this point I think I’m just used to it.

Paula’s Choice Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner – Similarly to the lotion, I’ve been through a large number of these toners, and they’re definitely one of my favourites. This is also a product that works well year-round if you have normal skin. As with most toners, I don’t notice a huge difference in my skin when using this, but my face always felt nicely refreshed and that’s good enough for me.

Glasshouse Candle in Montego Bay – It took me about six months to burn through this candle, I know this because I ordered a few when I first moved from Perth to Adelaide. This candle was in my office, and I would burn it in the afternoons while I worked or when I would sit in my reading chair on weekends. This remains one of my favourite fragrances from Glasshouse, the combination of coconut and lime is nice and bright and smells really refreshing.

Jergens Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturiser – This has been kicking around in my cupboard for quite a while now, and it was nice to finally use it up. I love this as a body moisturiser, it feels rich and nourishing on the skin and the shea butter fragrance was lovely. Unfortunately Jergen are not cruelty-free, so I will not be repurchasing this and will be making a conscious effort to seek out a cruelty-free product instead.

Firebird Perfume Oil in Almond Milk – This is an old-school product for me — I’ve had this sitting in my perfume collection for YEARS because I didn’t want to finish it. Because I’ve been working from home this year I haven’t been wearing as much perfume, and when I did want to wear a fragrance I would reach for this because it was lovely and subtle. This has reignited my interest in these perfume oils, and I’m planning on browsing Etsy at some stage in the near future to see what is currently available.

[sample] Tatcha Violet-C Mask – My friend Caitlin had been raving about this mask for ages, so I picked up a sample when I was shopping at Mecca recently. I absolutely love this mask. So much so that I purchased a full-size version after using up this sample. I highly recommend checking this out if you’re in the market for a brightening mask that will help even out your skintone.

[sample] SK-II R.N.A Power – This was a sample that came with my recent Adore Beauty order, and I was excited to try my first ever SK-II product. I liked this as a day cream, but it was nothing groundbreaking for me and certainly nothing that I could justify the price tag for.

July Empties

LUSH Sea Salted Caramel Soap – I picked this soap up recently, when my best friend visited Adelaide and we had a big day out shopping together. I know Sebastian loves anything salted caramel, and I figured he would enjoy this. Turns out he LOVES it, it’s his new favourite product to use in the shower, and we have already finished up a second bar.

Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 Dry Scalp Care – This is Sebastian’s shampoo of choice and although I wouldn’t personally purchase a 2-in-1 product, he seems happy enough with it and I will continue to purchase it.

Maybelline One By One Volume Express Mascara – I have a few old (unopened) mascaras kicking around in my beauty cupboard and I’m trying to use them all up. I’m so faithful to my holy grail Lancome mascara that buying anything else feels like too much of a risk or experiment to purchase, so once I’ve finished up these old ones I doubt I will repurchase any of them. Unless of course there are some superstar stand-outs. This was nothing special and didn’t really do much to lengthen or thicken my lashes so I’m not going to be repurchasing it in the future.

Lancome Hypnose Mascara – As mentioned above, this is my holy grail mascara and something I repurchase time and time again. This is the best mascara that I’ve come across for lengthening and thickening lashes without any dropout or smudging by the end of the day. I often receive compliments on my lashes and I put it all down to this incredible product.

Dove Go Fresh Deodorant in Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena – This is the only deodorant I use, and that is mostly because it smells really good. I have loved all of the deodorants in the Dove range, but this has been the stand out for me so far. I’ll continue to purchase this until I get sick of the scent.

Paula’s Choice Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum – This is one of my favourite Paula’s Choice products, and I’ve finished a fair few of these tubes over the years. This is one of those rare skin care products where you can see results almost immediately. My skin drinks this up and always seems to look healthier when I use this as part of my daily routine.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – Another repeat offender in my empties posts, this is a product we are never without in our shower. This is really gentle and is great to use on sensitive skin, so we both use it as a body cleanser. I have repurchased another tub of this, and I spotted some mega tubs at Costco that I’ll be picking up next time we shop there.

Darphin Beauty Revealing Cream – I feel like this product was a gift from the universe right when my skin needed it most. This was one of the most hydrating moisturisers I have ever used and my skin loved it, but only for a period of time. After a little while it got to be a little bit too heavy and I switched to using it as a neck cream instead. This is a heavily fragranced product, so if that is something that puts you off when it comes to skin care you might want to keep that in mind.

[sample] Mecca Maxima Bring On Bright Primer – I liked this primer so much that I went out and bought a full sized version of it as soon as this little tube had run out. I also convinced my best friend to buy it, and she said it has “revolutionized her face”. This is a really wonderful illuminating primer, so if you’re looking for something to brighten up your face, I’d recommend checking this out.
