Product Review: Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer

A little while ago I posted a mini haul of Kate Somerville products that I purchased after reading that Lauren Conrad was a fan of the brand. Out of everything that I bought, the oil-free moisturizer is by far my favourite out of the products I purchased. First of all, the packaging is super attractive and supremely functional. The jar is airtight (always a positive when it comes to skin care), so in order to dispense the product you press down on the inner lid to push the moisturizer up through an invisible hole in the top. I’m not doing a great job of describing it, but it’s very easy to use. Secondly the moisturizer itself is very gentle and didn’t irritate my sensitive skin in any way. The oil-free factor is of great benefit to oily-skinned gals like myself and I don’t know why it took me so long to realize that oil-free moisturizer is a necessity for my skin. The Kate Somerville Oi-Free Moisturiser retails for $75 AUD and is available for purchase from Mecca Cosmetica. Go ahead and buy it if you’re in a TREAT YO’SELF state of mind.

My Nail Polish Collection & Storage

As with most things in my life, I tend to go through phases with nail polish. Sometimes I go for weeks on end wearing the same shade sometimes nothing at all. Other times I like to mix it up and can wear 2 or three shades a week. Sometimes I watch 5 seasons of the X Files in a row and become obsessed with finding the perfect neutral shade of polish à la Dana Scully, but that is a depressing life story for another day. Here is my current nail polish collection, and how I store it.

I store my nail polish in acrylic cutlery drawers that I found in Big W. I sort them by brand rather than by shade because I’m more familiar with what I own brand-wise than what I have within a certain colour range. I’m considering doing a series of weekly posts where I wear every single shade that I own at least once next year and do a NOTD post for each. Let me know if that is something you would be interested in!

NOTD – Mecca ‘Audrey’

I went through a phase a little while back of obsessing over the Mecca nail polish range. I’ve since gotten over that obsession and I don’t think I’ve purchased a new shade in over a year or so. The colours that I do already own from their range though, are beautiful. ‘Audrey’ is one of my favourite cool-weather shades, and it’s a lot more beautiful in person than what shows in the image above. In fact, this colour is so pretty that at least 3 of my friends have gone out and purchased this after seeing me wear it. Not bad, huh?

Favourite Polishes: Winter

My polish preferences for the cold winter months tend to lean towards nice dark plum tones, deep burgundys, a simple soft pink or the occasional rock star black (in which case I am mocked at work for being a goth… “don’t talk to Jess, she’s a goth!”). In particular, these five shades are on high rotation on my nails this season – Mecca Cosmetica Audrey, Mecca Cosmetica Rosaline, OPI for Sephora Meet For Drinks, OPI for Sephora Brunette On The Internet & Face Of Australia Iron Ore.
